    #20 Milan '00 (Ape/Man)

A really cool Of The Girl opens; Mike particularly on form with some great guitar work. Corduroy, Grievance, Animal and God's Dice step the tempo up and there is some excellent guitar effects on Given To Fly that I don't think I've heard before. Rival makes an early appearance and fits in pretty well. Even Flow and Not For You together is good as is Thin Air and Light Years. MFC and Present Tense combine nicely. Overall it's a good 6 song run. Strangely, I thought Daughter took away from this. As an individual song & performance its good, the to & fro between Ed and crowd is a highlight. Go closes the main set.

Nothingman beautifully opens the first encore. Sleight Of Hand, Betterman and Wishlist ensure a low tempo start before Insignificance breaks it up. It's not the most convincing Insignificance; Rearviewmirror on the other hand is awesome. Garden makes only it's third appearance of the tour. It's superb (and baffling why it only makes 5 appearance all Binaural tour). I swear Stone starts to play the opening notes of Hunger Strike but quickly adjusting to State Of Love And Trust. It's a pretty scratchy version of SOLAT I feel. The encore started beautifully with Nothingman and ends beautifully with Black.

The band return to play Smile and then finish with Rockin' In The Free World.

An excellent boot, definitely one of my favourites so far on the Euro '00 leg.

Moline!!!!!!! Wow this show might be a top ten boot for me.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......
  • Just got Moline in the mail and threw it directly on.

Wife walked in and asked "So how is it?"

Just gave her a thumbs up and an ear to ear smile. No need to ruin the show with my ramblings of No Code and such.

Of The Girl opens for the second show in a row and it's another delightful performance. Corduroy makes it the same 1-2 as Milan. On Breakerfall, Ed's vocals are extremely stretched. After Animal, Nothing As It Seems is aborted after a botched intro. They eventually start up Dissident instead. They give NAIS after go and get through it this time! Alive shows up early in the main set next before Thin Air and Light Years combine again just like in Milan. Habit is pretty awesome, even with Ed missing on vocals towards the end. Ed then remarks that the crowd is pretty quiet but its good. This starts off a trio of 'camp-fire' songs if you like with Wishlist, Off He Goes and then Sleight Of Hand. Rearviewmirror and Porch bring the main set to a high tempo end.

It's all about Yield at the start of the first encore with Brain Of J, Given To Fly and Do The Evolution starting it off. The latter isn't the best vocal performance by Ed it has to be said. The crowd are then treated to the 'Man Trilogy'. Nothingman is absolutely stunning and totally stripped back. Leaving Here closes the first encore.

As par for the course on this tour, Ed returns for Soon Forget before the rest of the guys come back for Yellow Ledbetter to close the show.

    A laidback boot this one.
