No holding back here with an opening salvo of Breakerfall, Corduroy, MFC and Go. With Faithful and Even Flow to follow, the pace early on doesn't relent. Guitar problems hamper Rival. This signals a change in tempo with Given To Fly and Small Town following, the latter sounding very strong. Light Years to follow is perfect. Evacuation is very good, possibly my favourite of the tour so far. Present Tense is just awesome, as is Daughter backed with Song X and I Believe In Miracles. Porch continues the good run. I was thinking Porch would close the main set but no, the set continues with a lush Black. The main set (and an excellent one it has been) is brought to a close by Rearviewmirror.
At the start of the encore Ed mentions he wishes it was Jeff's birthday again (in reference to the Hamburg '92 show) and gets the crowd to sing Happy Birthday to Jeff. Two covers kick-off the encore; Crazy Mary is up first making it's first appearance of the tour. It's quite cool too hear it without Boom! Soldier Of Love is the second cover - Ed introducing it as "a dance song. A song to dance too". Evolution is an excellent performance. Smile is another good one in the encore. Baba O'Riley closes the encore; Matt's drums sound way off early on. The guys return to play Yellow Ledbetter.
Excellent main set, really enjoyed it. The encore is abit up and down for me. Still a good boot though.2000: Manchester

Great review. I've really been digging the 2000s... especially with with Breakerfall appearances early in the setlist.boyo79 said:#23 Hamburg '00

Thanks! Oh yeah it's a positive thought on Black. A real good version at Hamburg especially with the We Belong Together part at the end - very different to how they normally play that part. Rival sounds so good on this tour, really should get played more often!PeArLgOoNeR said:

A quite fantastic Corduroy opens the penultimate show of the tour. The early pace continues with Grievance, God's Dice and Animal. The last part of Rival bottoms out otherwise it's another good performance. Small Town briefly gives the crowd a chance to catch their breath before Even Flow and Not For You resume the high tempo. MFC and Habit combine again, as they have much of this tour. Present Tense is a below par performance really - especially after being so good in Hamburg. The Wrong Child is tagged onto Daughter. I felt it was a pretty rough take of Jeremy too. Good performances of Once and Go close the main set.
The first encore starts off where the main set ended tempo-wise with Evolution, Insignificance and Rearviewmirror. There's quite a delay between Rearviewmirror and the next song, Wishlist. Almost like Rearviewmirror was supposed to end the encore. Wishlist is ok, Ed does forget the lyrics though. Garden makes it's penultimate appearance of 2000. It's good but not as haunting as Manchester or Milan I feel. State Of Love And Trust and Rockin' In The Free World complete the show.
Always liked this boot.
