    Yeah they write beautifully equal. Each has a unique style and flair in their writing, both lyrically and musically. I couldn't choose if I tried! I think each brings something powerful and moving to the songs, but it's obvious who wrote which ones initially. I honestly think, that the multi opn angled approach this band takes towards writing music is what makes them so incredible as artists. There's just too many variables in each individual song to try to pinpoint the altogether best writer of the five. Each and every song regardless of its creator stands alone, and therefore cannot be judged against the standing of another song written by a different member of the band. So, I vote all of them as individuals, and since there is no option labeled as such, I shall not vote at all. :-) ( you asked!)

    I wish they used his stuff more. Get back to the roots of the band and let him and Jeff anchor the album.

    Agreed. It's funny, he writes probably more than anyone in the band from interviews I've seen.

    This one is complicated. Stone has written more good/great songs but Ed has written the songs that are the most emotionally impactful for me. (Post Ten, obviously.)

    In the old days Stone no doubt, and as someone else said Eddie's compositions tend to tug at my heartstrings, evoking a more personal experience such that I can put myself or those I know into the songs ... Also a fan of Matt's quirky time signatures and sometimes chunky riffs. On the last few albums I'd actually take Jeff. Some beautiful music, intricate and somewhat psychedelic. Love the live Other Side from Worchester 2 and Yellow Moon is great.

    It's a close one between Ed and Stone but in terms of pure music composition I gotta go with Stone based purely on the fact that without his early genius Pearl Jam doesn't become what they were/are.

    I think the combo of Stone composing and Ed writing is far and away better than any other duo (I'm biased of course).

    While I don't like all of Ed's sappy lyrics recently, I do enjoy his acoustic guitar work.

    I think stone back in the day but since eddie pretty much has taken over the reigns of the band, I have to say him because we may not have new albums coming out if it weren't for eddies drive lately.
    I'm like an opening band for your mom.

    Given to fly is mikes masterwork imo. The rest of his song writing is good but no wjere compared to stone, Jeff or Ed.
