What did Eddie mean?

So I'll start. The first statement that comes to my mind is something he said at the Vancouver 2013 show. I got most of it, but there is one part where I thought, "Huh??" So does anyone understand what he meant here?
Eddie to crowd, First Encore Break: "May I propose a toast? Um, you know, I - We - We see bands, you know. We go and see shows and I see shows, and we see club shows, we see bigger shows, I've seen some stadi-- You know, and one thing I always-- it's kind of easy to pick up on, and it makes me a little crazy, and I wouldn't want to be, uh... I wouldn't want to be, uh... *graahh*... guilty of it myself, but I gotta tell ya, you make a bunch of guys who are in a group feel so fucking good to have this opportunity to play music. It's very unusual, and it's not lost on us for a second. Thanks to everyone in the back.... etc etc etc."
:-/ I mean, of course I get the general gist, which was lovely - the vibe at that show was amazing, and we all felt it. So yeah, obviously that's what he's talking about, which is awesome. But what's that part about being guilty of it himself? What makes him crazy? I don't get it. :P

Idk, guilty of enjoying being a rock star? That's vedder drifting in thought while trying to talk during an emotional moment. You know that feeling you get when u see them live, now imagine being on the other side and seeing/feeling that emotion? How intense must that be?PJ_Soul said:We all love it when Eddie talks to us at the shows, and usually it seems like everyone is on the same page as him... but once in a while he says stuff that just don't seem to make complete sense to everyone.
) Or, to me, at least. So here's a thread where we can figure it out or see if anyone else can explain exactly what he was getting at! Could be more of an incomprehensible statement, or one that makes sense but we want to get to the root of it.

This is a really good point. I'm very energy intuitive, and I am washed in emotion, no matter where I sit at a show.. And we counter absorb, and regenerate that energy and it amplifies... And amplifies.. So imagine being that small group of five guys up there.. And being just overwhelmed by the feeling that has saturated the air.. That must be incredible..badbrains said:

Yeah, wouldn't want to be guilty of taking fans for granted and being too self-absorbed to appreciate the love coming from the crowd. Pearl Jam is the only band I have seen that takes the appreciation to the level they do.PureandEasy said:I assume also keeping himself in line, like not taking fans for granted.

I've listened to that section many times on my bootleg (and was lucky enough to hear it in person, yay) and I've always thought it meant that he does not want to be guilty of not recognizing their audiences for the part they play in the whole experience.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0

All good thoughts... I think it might be the "but" that's throwing me off, lol. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

Come to think of it, I don't even think vedder knows what he said.0

Sometimes, I think he just feels at home with all of us enough to just ramble on.. Which is kinda cool! He gets lost in thought, and then it trickles down I to a whole new vein of thought.. Then he realizes it, and gets back on track, just before he forgets what his point was.. When my sister went to Wrigley with me and she got to hear him do this.. She laughed and said.. " I love it!! He sounds like you when you're drunk!!" ( meaning me). Unfortunately, I sound like that sober too!! Lol nine the less, I love hearing these ramblings.. It feels more like a gathering of friends, we all tell our tales at the preparties, then we get to the show and get to hear his stories.. Lol0

Vedderisms >>>>>>jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

I take it as he wants to compliment the audience but he doesn't want it to come across as not genuine as he realizes that performers try to compliment the audience at just about every show but many performers do so more for themselves than for the audience.
It seems to me he alludes to this theme quite frequently without actually saying it. In fact I sometimes get the impression that he wants to gush even more about the crowd but he is genuinely fearful that it won't be taken as "real". As big and famous as he is, he just seems so happy and thankful that he is where he is and would like to express it to the fans. Sometimes it's like he is pinching himself.0 -
I know everybody knew what he was saying in berlin when his tears were doing all the talking needed at that moment.Post edited by badbrains on0
