For what he is trying to convey, maybe there just are no words....

Buy its SO IMPORTANT that he acknowledges this when he feels it and talks about it because - however it comes out - it is about an energy that the world needs very very very fucking badly right now.

The place you come from will always be felt Ed.

I take it as he wants to compliment the audience but he doesn't want it to come across as not genuine as he realizes that performers try to compliment the audience at just about every show but many performers do so more for themselves than for the audience.

That is how I took it. Thanking the audience in a not so sincere way.

Interesting post. What about the idea that maybe Eddie as a fan has felt unappreciated or at least under-appreciated. That maybe he is expressing sincere gratitude to us for being such loyal, appreciative fans. Because maybe he has attended shows by bands or solo acts who have not given sincere thanks to those who help to make them Who they are. Us the fans.

I do have this bootleg and can remember thinking when I first listened. What did he just say??
  • I actually think in that comment he is talking about big stadium shows and the disconnect that can be felt in the larger less intimate venues. He is saying he would hate for his shows to feel like that, and I think he is saying that they the band feel connected to the audience at that show. This is a theme he has spoken about on a number of occasions.

That is just my take on it, but I'm probably completely wrong as the other ideas sound right too.

All good points. Especially about the emotional talk. I can't imagine being on his side of things feeling all that energy in the buildings concert after concert. And then trying to convey what you're feeling in a truly genuine way with thousands of people hanging on every word?!?!? Hell I have trouble conveying emotional thoughts to just a couple people.

    Vedderisms >>>>>>

I like that. On the Tool forums Maynardisms are a common discussion point after shows, but EV says some pretty cool shit too.

It seems to me he alludes to this theme quite frequently without actually saying it. In fact I sometimes get the impression that he wants to gush even more about the crowd but he is genuinely fearful that it won't be taken as "real". As big and famous as he is, he just seems so happy and thankful that he is where he is and would like to express it to the fans. Sometimes it's like he is pinching himself.

    Nice interpretation.

He's been in the audience and understands the love he's given and is touched and appreciates getting it. Doesn't take it for granted.

    I love this band.

  • maybe guilty of 'vibing the band'. isn't that what everyone does in the first several rows. thats why they wanna be on the rail right, so they can vibe the band. but i don't think ed would do that so i guess i don't know.
