All very nice, except the family vibe. I'm not into that. I like for a rock concert to be grown-up time - teens and older. Little kids at a rock concert just doesn't sit well with me (not that I'm not gracious when it happens.... but inside I'm annoyed).

    Get over yourself!

I went to Moline and Milwaukee with my wife, 13 year-old daughter, and 9 year-old son. We rocked out and were more into the show than either the people who sat down with their arms crossed or the people that just wanted to go out and get wasted on $10 beers and embarrass themselves!
No, you get over yourself!!!! :D \:D/

No idea what the losers you happened to be next to at a show has to do with anything.
I don't appreciate people like you making blanket statements about not bringing your family to a show. It makes you seem very selfish and entitled.

Have you considered it might be selfish and entitled to think that the presence of "your" children doesn't have any effect on the concert experience of the adults nearby?? Not necessarily saying so myself, but it is certainly a valid perspective.

The two shows I've been lucky enough to attend were in 1998 and 2013. I loved the 98 show because it was my first PJ show and Yield is my favorite CD. But I was young, high, and in the back. I appreciated it but I didn't.

The 2013 show was amazing. I was 35, sober, and in the pit. The band sounded great (not that they didn't in 98). But I was able to appreciate more. I got to bring my wife, who isn't a die hard fan. Actually, she really isn't a fan at all. She only really like 4 or 5 songs. She was able to see how happy I was seeing the band I love as well as hear the music that has been in my life for 20+ years. So to me, the 2013 tour is better.

But what do I know? I've only seen the 2 shows.

    2 shows and a semi-ban, you're on fire =))

Don't buy into the more-shows-bigger-fan myth. No doubt me and you are totally envious of people who can follow the band on tour or chunks of tours. That'd be my idea of a perfect vacation. Unfortunately, life gets in the way (it's what happens while you're making your tour plans!!)

No I don't. Other than the 100's off boots I've listened to, I have nothing to compare those two shows to. ;)

I seem to have that effect on people. =))
  • I know this won't be the popular opinion, but I thought '98 was meh (maybe, I'm overstating that for effect). Now, I only went to 1 show, so I can't comment on the tour, but it left me disappointed (relatively speaking - it was a great show, but I can think of 20+ other shows I went to in that era that blew it away). They are a 10x's better band with a 20x's better show now. I realize we were all on many more drugs and had a lot less responsibility in our lives back then. So, that definitely contributes to how you view stuff. But, they have definitely learned and grown in so many ways, that objectively, there's no comparison.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

No, and i don't want children.
But i don't understand why you are offended. I don't even know what you mean by blanket statement. I didn't pass judgement. I just said that I don't like kids at a rock concert. Yeah, I don't see how your opinion would be offensive to someone. I've brought my kids to shows (not as toddlers). I can understand both sides. My 15 yo has become my constant concert buddy (he'll be going to his 3rd Billy Joel MSG show on Tuesday, went to EC Crossroads, stood rail at Gary Clark, Jr, and upper deck at PJ Brooklyn) while my 13 yo tried it and prefers sporting events (we will try again). Whatever. Expose them to many things and they'll, find their way. Meanwhile, my 10 yo can't wait to go see The Who (again) next year. I dont care if you light up in front of them (my 15 yo went to the last Allman Brothers Beacon Saturday night and had 2 guys light up so blatantly an usher actually spoke to them - which if you know The Brothers at the Beacon that's pretty hard to do - and we laugh about it).

I've also been on both sides of the getting totally wasted side of the discussion. I don't let what you do effect me, and I don't expect you to do any different. If youre idea of fun is black out drunk, why do I or my son care? Funny thing is its a learning experience. As long as you don't punch or puke, I couldn't care less.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
