Thought it might be interesting to see which category scores highest here amongst PJ fans.

I like all kinds of animals but as far as which ones I can live with, it's puppy dogs. :o3

I had to think a while to answer my own poll. I like both cats and dogs a lot and have had both (as well as other critters of all sorts) but overall I have to give the edge to cats. Maybe if I ever retire and have more time again for a dog I'll reach that 50/50 stage again.

    I'm a "yes" :)

l love both, and we adore our two cats. But if we had a house vs our current small condo with association rules, a dog would definitely have a home with us - a rescue dog, at that!

I've never jived with people who aren't into either, who aren't into animals in general (not for allergy reasons but just don't like them).

    How?!

Dogs. Grew up with dogs my whole life and just got my own a few months ago. It's awesome.

Cats just don't do it for me. Plus, I'm extremely allergic to them.

The dogs are in the lead. Cats a few steps behind. But will the tortoise win after all? :-)

The kitties definitely have the edge with me. I love puppies too but I love kitties more, always have.

I love them both, but for intelligence, slinkiness, purriness and scratchy tongues, I have to give it to the cats. And I acquired my first cat at age 2, when I walked to the neighbors to retrieve a kitten. After several attempts on my mom's part to return it, she gave up. I have been without a cat for almost 16 years until last Saturday, when we picked up a 4 month old bag of elbows at a local rescue. Our pets now total 8: 4 hens, 2 zebra finch, 1 rescue chubby pug, and 1 kitten. The zoo is complete! image

I love both. Dogs are more fun than cats, but cats are so much easier and relaxing to live with, so it evens out.

On the fourth lap its cats by a paw and a whisker. Will the dogs catch up? Will the tortoise make a last minute appearance? Stay tuned!

I love Galapagos tortoises. If I'm ever a bazillonaire I'll get one. And built it a habitat. And hire an around the clock care team. And get it a friend.

I had a friend who had a big desert tortoise named after a truck or tank or something. (Great name, wish I could remember it.) They never fenced it in or anything. It just stuck around and chomped down on anything green. They live a long time so he's probably still there. Really cool critter, that tortoise.

Did you get to pet it? Or feed it a mango?

Yeah, I did. This guy was very cool with people. You could even rub his head a little and he would only retract it a little bit. Had to watch the fingers when him feeling though- that dude had some powerful chompers!

Like to think I'm equal, but since I live with three cats, I had to give the nod to them. Would love to get a pup, but with the crazy hours the girlfriend and I work, it just wouldn't be fair. Someday.

I don't see myself having a dog anytime soon though. My lifestyle just doesn't suit dog ownership right now. I'll probably get one when I'm retired 30 years from now. Until then, a cat or nothing.

But if anyone is looking for another option, rabbits can make WONDERFUL pets if you allow them to live like cats. They should not be kept in any kind of cage. If they are, they are miserable and make shitty pets, plus it's torture. But if you let them have the run of at least a couple of rooms, they will use a litter box and really thrive as loving, playful, and affectionate pets. The one I had used to run up to me when I came home, leap into my arms, and lick my nose. :x He would also play with toys. His favorite was a balloon. He'd stand on his back legs and roll the balloon around like one of those walkers for toddlers. So cute. Only downside is that they chew shit up, so you really have to rabbit proof the area of your home where they are allowed to live.

Please do not cage rabbits and please spread the message. They are not meant to be caged like fucking hamsters. Thanks you. :)

I never even thought about having a rabbit but that sounds like fun! I'm guessing my cat would have no part of it so I probably won't find out any time soon.

Thanks for good advice for kindness to rabbits!

i have to say both...having worked with both, I will admit with dogs...there are certain breeds I just don't like. Cats are cats...they all have their own personalities and you can't really be breed specific. Although...next cat I get will definitely have to be short hair (freaking cat puffs EVERYWHERE!).
