Its stuff like this that makes me want to read the news less. The world is on fire lately. Just so much crazy...
that's more or less why its not a big deal if I get the news all the time or not, find things so depressing after awhile. Its all murder, tradjedy and basically death that's starts the first 15 mins of the news, never anything happy. Its is a shame the world and people are going to hell it seems.

I'd be careful around the Casino Queen - I'd assume the immediate hotel/casino area is OK but the area around it isn't great. East St. Louis in general can be pretty tough. If it were me I would stay on the STL side of the river.
If the officer that shot the kid doesn't get charged all hell is going to break loose in St. Louis - and it will almost certainly spread beyond Ferguson. There was some violence last night but it was pretty isolated. Civic leaders are begging people to let the process run its course. Seems like most are willing to do that but it's very tense. As you'd expect its on the local news here all the time which only seems to ratchet things up. Somebody has to get the Ferguson police chief out of the process. The state brought in a guy from the state Highway Patrol, Capt Ron Johnson, who may be the only one who can save the day. He's a very impressive guy and trying to demilitarize the police reaction. As soon as he get things calmed down the local guys just fan the flames. I have not watched a lot of national coverage since it's on here all the time but this is far from over.
The national coverage is nowhere near what you'd expect. The vast majority of reports I have seen has been online. On regular news shows it's usually just like a headline. They are all showing the same footage, they don't have reporters on the ground. It's beyond weird. I hope the situation calms down by the show. Not like I'm concerned about going there as I would only be there for 2 full days and I'd be downtown/cwe the WHOLE time, but because I can't even imagine what it must be like to be living in Ferguson right now, with this shit going on, and to have it drag out for another month and a half just sounds painful.
I'll probably be up there early. Any good bars around the Scottrade Center area. Not staying downtown, but will get down there early to soak in the atmosphere.
"That's part of the curse: If you're gonna play the song, you better play it. I've tried to phone in "Jeremy" a few times, and it's tough. It doesn't work."

Maggie O'Brien is where the Wishlist fundraiser is happening and not too far from the arena.

My younger sister and her husband are joining me for this concert...they are nervous about the whole thing. I keep telling her that there won't be any issues downtown (staying at the Sheraton across from Scottrade), but I have to admit that if the grand jury makes their determination around that time, there will be folks on both sides who will not be happy.
I just think it is a sad situation all around. Unfortunately, we don't know a lot of the facts surrounding the case, just a bunch of speculation. There are two things that I know of, 1) if you attack a policeman in any way, things can get ugly; and 2) violent protest will only lead to more violence.
There's no doubt that PJ will have something to say about what's been taking place. I hope that instead of playing WMA regarding the situation, the guys would play LBC. I understand that there is a time and place to stand up for injustice, as PJ has done so many times. And if the facts prove that there was an injustice, then by all means, throw the book at this guy and feel free call him out. But no need to put all police into that category. The overwhelming majority serve and protect, and for that I am thankful.
If the recent events in Ferguson, MO are making anyone nervous about attending the PJ show in St Louis, feel free to sell me your ticket...hopefully, 10-Club GA, please. Thanks, Jim

Any recommendations for the best way to get downtown from the airport? Taxi, bus, shuttle??
Metrolink will take you from the airport to many locations down town.
Yes, take the Metrolink. The airport is kinda far away and a cab ride will cost you $$$.
If anyone is flying Frontier into St. Louis, I recommend you change your tickets. It was only after my terrible experience with them earlier this week that I learned they have the most delays/cancellations/complaints of all the airlines.
Lol. I'm just trying to guesstimate what it's going to be like getting back there after the show via metro. I have been considering switching to the Hilton at the Ballpark but it's a lot more expensive and the amenities aren't as good.
