If you want to listen to an absolutely amazing live album try Live at the Santa Monica Civic '72. It was a radio broadcast that was booted for years and then given an official release. The performance is much better than that on the Spiders From Mars soundtrack. The live sound is way different than the thin sound on the studio recordings. Mick Ronson just fuckin rips on this recording. Width of Circle and My Death are highlights for me.0

I liked Aladdin Sane as well.
Panic in Detroit is one of his best songs for sure.
The Man Who Sold the World was no lightweight either."My brain's a good brain!"0 -

Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory, again. Let's Dance, too.
Tin Machine at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston in 1991, simply the LOUDEST concert I've ever experienced.Bristow 05132010 to Amsterdam 2 061320180 -

I'm a fan of one of Bowie's live LPs, "Stage". What a band!- Carlos Alomar, Adrian Belew, Dennis Davis, George Murray, Simon House, Sean Mayes, Roger Powell and of course, D.B. Great versions of some of the hits plus- and this is really cool- some of the more obsure stuff like "Warszawa" and "Art Decade". Very affordable even on vinyl.
Another favorite is "Lodger". Pretty much the same band as above PLUS ENO! How can you go wrong!?"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
i read the news today. oh boy :(0

One of my favorite Bowie albums! He was a genius and a great human being. He will be missed! One of the best catalogs of music in history.tcaporale said:Once you get into his more accessible material, make sure you get Low.

I grew up listening to David Bowie in the 1970's and still love his music.
I don't think he put a step wrong in the 70's (apart from Pin Ups). I'd say 'Hunky Dory' and 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" are probably my favourites - both have great songs and are a good place to start. 'The Man Who Sold the World' is a heavy rock album - another of my favourites, along with the Berlin trilogy (Low, "Heroes" and 'Lodger') which are more experimental.
I've ordered a load of his later stuff today. I already have 'Scary Monsters and Super Creeps' and ' The Next Day' which I also rate highly.
So sad that he's passed away, but his music and influence will live on for sure.0 -

I LOVE WHAT JEFF A WROTE
"David Bowie channeled everything to everyone, a beacon of light to the freaks and the outcasts and great pop/funk/rock/glam/tech songs for the masses. The most oblique of strategies. The truest of original song makers. He will be greatly missed"
