i enjoyed it.PJ_Soul said:Captain Phillips
It's okay I guess. The best part was Tom Hanks's acting in the last 3 minutes of the movie.
haha....yeah the last 3 minutes he was probably like "okay, one last oscar push, here goes nothing!"

Philomena. Very good. Can't remember if I posted this - finally saw American Hustle and it was fine. Not amazing though. Loved Amy Adams.0

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Really like all of the actors in this....and I am a fan of Chad Kultgen, one of the writers. (His books are alternately fucked up/hilarious)
A silly movie but my wife and I both ended up laughing at a handful of parts. The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -
American Hustle. Really good flick. Top notch performances and perfectly cast.
MY wife said (surprisingly) that Christian Bale was sexy but she couldve done without the chubby gut and comb-over. Then we realized she never saw American Psycho, so we watched that too. Amazing the transformation that guy has gone through for some movies.
Now I have to go return some videos...Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)0 -
Watched a bunch the past few weeks
Lone Survivor
Inside Llewyn Davis
Captain Phillips
Secret Life Of Walter Mitty
American Hustle
Dallas Buyers Club
I didn't like American Hustle as much as I thought I would and I liked Dallas Buyers Club a lot more than I thought I would.

12 Years A Slave
Dimitris said it already... it's another movie about slavery. Like the others, it's fucking depressing and horrible. Nothing about it really makes it stand out as a unique or great film IMO.... the acting is pretty good. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -
"Fucking depressing and horrible"? Knowing our country's history may be depressing and horrible, but it's necessary we know it. No one knew that guy's story had there not been a film. The book was not on the best sellers list. Not to mention, it was a very well-made film. Tell me, did you even know that they kidnapped free black men from the north and shipped them south to be used as slaves? I bet not.PJ_Soul said:12 Years A Slave

Yes, I absolutely did know that. I know a lot about the history of slavery in America. I am very well-read on the subject, and have read 12 Years A Slave (which is actually a very well known book, btw). I didn't say a word about whether or not it is important to know that history (and of course i think it is VERY important, and i think that people should never be allowed to forget about it or minimize it, which is unfortunately what i think a lot of people do). The point i was making was in terms of film critique. This particular film did not offer anything unique or particularly outstanding as a work of art about slavery IMO. It was okay. Not great. That does not mean that i think there should not be films about this subject (on the contrary. I did choose to see the film after all, knowing the story already. I just expected it to be a better film, especially given the critical succes of it).backseatLover12 said:

This is the End (I think that is the title?)
meh...I didn't think it was *that* funny. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
