This show was just too damn good.
  • I've been fortunate enough to experience several very cool live Pearl Jam moments in my life. But none of them were as touching as the moment in San Diego when Ed delivered a wine bottle via the audience to his mother sitting in the stands, toasted her, and proved to us that his imbibing ways are in fact genetic.

I kept looking at his mom the rest of the show and singing to myself "Son, she said, have I got a little story for you." And when the band finally did play Alive, I felt my journey as a fan was complete. That is until I saw them in Los Angeles two nights later and as usual, they left me wanting more.

Here's to the greatest rock band of all time, who has given me so much, and shows no sign of curtailing their enormous generosity.
  • I knew the venue was small and had a feeling with it being a home town gig of sorts I would be disappointed if I missed it.

The day was suppose to be a vacation day for me but I ended up having to spend my entire day on the phone doing work related meetings. Needless to say I needed to relieve some stress by the time I made it to the pit at 7:50 pm and was pleasantly surprised at how few people where there. I was able to find a spot on the rail on Stone's side and my ticket partner arrived around 8:15 pm and was able to stand right next to me.

Knocked off a couple of songs I had never heard before at a Pearl a Jam show: Sometimes, Sleight, and Leaving Here. Was also happy to hear Nothingman and Sirens sound great. Loved Why Go and Porch for the screaming sing alongside as well as Betterman.

What I will remember most about this show was the stories Ed told about the area, the length of the show, and the obvious good vibe the band was feeling being there. Not my personal favorite set list but, I really, really enjoyed the show.

Thank you again to Bob for trading his extra GA to me for my extra LAI .
  • This was my first Pearl Jam show!

PJ fans are amazing. Everyone was so friendly (except the girl that stole my husband's ticket). I would even feel safe on the GA floor. I've had a couple bad experiences at other concerts so tend to stay away from there but the crowd at this concert was polite!

The downside was the price we had to pay for the tickets. I wasn't aware you had to belong to a club to get good tickets so had to go through a broker. Still had awesome seats..4th row on the isle near the rail so unobstructed...lots of dancing and singing in our section :D

I'm not qualified to compare this PJ concert to others, but I can compare to 30 years of amazing concerts I've been to...and I'd say this one is top 2!

PJ is super tight...didn't expect them to be so good live. Eddie has a way making his fans feel important that I've never seen in a band before. A highlight for me was the wine bottle pass to his mom...then singing Alive..I mean...I always wondered how his mom felt about that song and to have her there and him singing it was pretty amazing.

Also a funny coincidence-- we stood in the merch line before the show...seemed like an hour. The guy in front of us in the line ended up sitting right in the row in front of us. Odds--12,000 to 1. He was cool as his friends...hardcore fans :). Definitely added to the positive vibe of the show.

Not sure I will go to another show as this one would be hard to top. I guess if I can get good tickets again... maybe even GA now that I see how cool the fans are.

    Hey, welcome to the club.

I am still glowing after 3 shows-SD, LA1&2. All 3 shows were great, esp from the rail, but San Diego was easily the best. The vibe was so personal and the band was having a such great time playing and enjoying the night. The sound was superb, the set list amazing, and seeing Ed's mom drink from the wine bottle brought smiles all around. Ed didn't want the night to end, and neither did we. Emotions and passion were high, all the fans were cool, the GA line was organized well, and security escorted us down the steps to GA in an orderly fashion, which was appreciated. The merch truck had everything in stock, which was a nice change from the Wrigley experience. Being right in front of Ed and seeing the band on fire and so close was an unforgettable night. Seeing/hearing Sirens live for the first time was the highlight for me. Only wish I was going to some more shows, now that I've got my voice back.
I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up
  • I had such an amazing time at this concert I felt compelled to post and add my love to the forum. The best show I have ever been too, hands down. The band was on fire and they spread the love to the whole crowd. It had been awhile since I had to been to a Pearl Jam show and 20 years since my first PJ show but they were just as amazing as my 14 year brain remembers. This was my husbands first PJ show and he is a complete convert now, to see him talk about the show to our friends gives me a sick sense of pride. We were in GA right behind the first row of peeps against the barricade, what an epic spot. I literally screamed with delight at our proximity to the stage, and yes, I am that girl who still loses her mind over Eddie. The crowd was so cool, I am pregnant and was worrying about pushing but there was literally no pushing, everyone was so awesome. It is really an amazing thing when you can get that many people crowded together and never have your own personal space compromised. I really can't say enough great things about this show!! It has given me renewed love for the band! It will be a PEARL JAM CHRISTMAS at our house this year.

  • I saw them play the same venue in 2009, and that was an amazing show. Ben Harper opened (Ed joined him during his set for a duet of Under Pressure, which was awesome), and lots of shout-outs to friends and relatives. This time around I thought I'd try L.A. instead, so I went to the Sunday night show there. Honestly, although it was a good show, it couldn't hold a candle to San Diego '09, and it sounds like San Diego '13 was another amazing show. So I'm regretting my choice of shows a little bit. On the plus side I got to go to Disneyland while I was there, so that was cool. If Star Tours was 3 hours long it would give a Pearl Jam show a run for its money.

Great story, thanks for sharing. You should move your post to the main board for people to view(if you haven't already)....I was at the show too, a great night. Can't wait for the bootleg.

LA1 was right up there with SD, but SD had that family feeling to it, which made it a tad more special. LA1 was intense though.

  • thanks for sharing that incredible accounting of an amazing moment at the show. i could swear that i met rob in the GA line (he was #26 in line, i thought; i was #24). a very nice guy. and then to see him on the stage, accepting a very nice donation for a very worthwhile cause, was an unforgettable moment.

good luck to the both of you and to your home country in its recovery.

mind blown. completely. and i still have the next three shows to go.

i was right in front of mike. i got some awesome pictures of him (and 5 picks!) and good pics of everybody else, even stone. during "porch," not only did i take the best pic i think i've ever taken - anywhere, anytime - but i briefly touched his guitar as well.

    .
Please share this "best pic ever" would love to see it

sorry, i hadn't revisted this thread since my post, so i did not see your request. i'm not familiar enough with the boards to figure out how to post the pic here. i'll try to figure something out so that i can soon. it is among the 295 pictures i posted on my facebook page, but i'm not sure whether linking to that album would work here.

Just listened to this boot the other night , been a few years since I last listening. Honestly I think this may be the best show of the US 2013 tour. I know there are some shows with more deeper cuts but this setlist just flows and the energy is amazing.
