I was on such a high after Phoenix that I didn't think they could top that. But they did. So many great songs that have already been covered by previous posts. But RITFW, Army Reserve, and Tremor Christ were probably the best for me. I've never had a bad time at a PJ show but the show last time they played in SD was probably my least favorite I've ever seen them do. But this blew that out of the water.

This was my girls 2nd Pearl Jam show and she loved it. Last time they played SD we were about 9 rows back on the floor and she couldn't see a thing (she's 5'2"). Last night we were 2 people back from Stone on the floor and she could see the entire show. Obviously an entirely different experience.

She also had an incredibly nice guy let her HAVE his rail spot for a few songs. Whoever you are, thanks again for doing that! You were so into the show too. Love seeing fans that are into the band as much as I am. Just amazing that you would do that for SEVERAL different people last night. Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow in LA.

Sorry again to everybody stuck behind me on Stone's side. I tried to help out as much as I could, but you can't fix being 6'8"!

That was my seventh show and while I think Wrigley this summer could have been better, the rain kind of derailed it for a little while. This was far and away the best because of the atmosphere. It struck me just how much the band loves what they do.
They're grown up little kids. We should all be so lucky to have a job like that where you absolutely get a kick out of what you do.
Ed's three song-ending jumps, McCready singing lyrics into the camera when there wasnt a microphone within 10 feet. The sheer joy on the face of Matt Cameron, who I didn't realize grew up here as well, when his son joined them on stage. Ed singing to his mom. Light Years for Ryan. Rob from the Philippines. They even ripped the local paper for being pompous, which is as accurate as it gets.
But the thing that impressed me most, beyond the atmosphere and set list, was how the house lights were on for a full 25 minutes and they just kept going. I didn't think they'd ever stop. Was perfect in every single way.

    What a fucking show...

For me, it was my 9th show... funny enough they played 9 songs I had never heard live (not counting LB tracks), and 3 that were on my "bucket list" so to speak... So I may be plenty biased in my opinion for those reasons, but this one EASILY rivaled the 06 show, and is slowly starting to show that I think San Diego tickets should be just as coveted as Boston, New York, and Seattle tickets, they're really treating it like a "hometown" show.

I think the other thing that adds to that is the arena is kind of unique for a sports arena where it's very narrow and steep, so it feels way more intimate than your standard arena, something the band commented on as well last night. I think the size of the arena is what also made the first encore work so well. Everyone was really into it, and it wasn't the buzzkill that it might look like on paper.

The crowd was into it from start to finish... That goes on the floor as well. Whenever I'm on the floor at a show I worry about having 500 cell phones in my face all night, the person that thinks I came to hear them sing as opposed to the band on stage, or just overly aggressive stuff.... Nothing like that at all, at least where we were standing... Very cool group of people. We also got pretty good position on the floor for not making it down until 7:30 due to work and traffic.

Tremor Christ was a HUGE surprise... There was a picture on twitter or somewhere of Stone's setlist, and apparently it didn't make it onto his, hahah, hence the little flub... certainly wasn't on him though, and everyone seemed to get a good laugh out of it.

The band was on fire... They referenced through the evening that pretty much everyone had friends and or family in attendance, Eddie's mom and brothers, Mike's dad, Matt's whole family it seemed, Jeff and Stone had friends as well, and it showed. I've personally never seen McCready as insane as he was last night. During porch he just seemed possessed almost. Dude even tripped/fell, did a somersault, and stood back up without missing a note it seemed.

The fan from the Philippines was pretty cool as well, and especially when the band announced that relief efforts for the region were their charity of choice for the evening.

I'm also under the impression that they must have paid quite a fee to the arena. I know that Viejas typically has a 11:00 pm curfew, and the house lights went on in between Black and Do the Evolution...I THINK... and I'm under the impression that it wasn't Keely that turned them on, because they were up the rest of the night, and it seemed some of the automated lights were still running which seems kind of pointless...

Anyway, very rambly I know... But a hell of a show, certainly worth picking up the boot when it eventually gets released...

I forgot about that Union Tribune comment. I was wondering if they would mention the terrible review the Tribune gave them for Lightning Bolt. There was not even a mention of the show in the paper yesterday.

lol I'm 6'8" and my ex was 5'2", high five haha!

And yes. San Diego '09 was the most mediocre setlist I've seen out of 20 shows now. And they *always* bring it when they play SD. Winning the lottery and being 2nd row, too, and that show was still whatever. But last night was on some whole other level, the absolute best I've ever seen them.

That's really sweet and all, and I wasn't there but I'm sure the love is deep there, but since he wrote Alive and what he has shared it being about... that is like, "complicated" doesn't even begin to explain the experience of seeing him sing Alive looking at her and her singing along!

Three hours and twenty four minutes...that had to be experienced. It cannot be explained.

It only had 3 more songs than Pitt, but was 50 min longer. Seems odd?

    I'm a Mom - we understand :)

Also she must be 1 heck of a lady to have raised one of the most vocal feminists - musically and socially - I can think of ( he did a shout out to Gloria Steinem last night as well for her Medal of Freedom award )

My only regret was not trying for GA. Although with my luck I'd be behind 6'8" guy. The vibe down there looked incredible.

My 10c seat was pretty bad though - angle good but last row of seats - member for 10 years. Guys in front of me and way lower in next section bought from TM!

Still -- wouldn't have missed this show for anything. Way better than 09 SD. Got LA 1/2 to come - but last time in LA the first night was industry types and Eddie wasn't pleased ( next night he complained a lot about nite 1). So we'll see...this may go down as the best ever. Glad it's the one I this tour I picked to take my teenage PJ buddy/son to even if he had a 7am class this morning.

This was show #39 for me, and while I'm a San Diego local (first time seeing them was in 1993 at the Civic Theatre), I had yet to have a truly transcendent experience here in my home town like I'd had in other places. I can't say that any longer. No other show has been as personally rewarding as this one was (I was even at the 20th anniversary Wisconsin event), nor can I imagine there ever being one to top it. Especially if you combine it with Phoenix, which was mind-blowing in its own right. It's almost like I wrote the setlists myself.

We went to show (GA tickets in-hand) with a guy who was a PJ virgin so hopes were high that he'd bring us luck. We had no idea just how lucky we'd end up being.

We were hoping they'd open with Pendulum since we hadn't heard it yet (Phoenix was our first show for this tour), and it immediately set the tone for what was to follow - sheer beauty and an auspicious beginning to the incredible journey we were about to undertake with this band we all love so much. And then Nothingman and Sometimes - two songs that are always a treat to hear, let alone one right after the other - made me think, okay, we are really getting something special here.

The new songs fit in perfectly and organically, especially Lightning Bolt and Mind Your Manners, and to have them followed by such rare gems as Tremor Christ, In Hiding, and Army Reserve kept our energy and enthusiasm growing a mile a minute. All Night has never been one of my faves, but last night's version was flawless and a real blast to listen to. To be honest, Even Flow is one of those songs I've heard enough already, but it fit in perfectly, and you could tell what a fan favorite it still is. And to have it followed up by Insignificance and Light Years, two of my favorite songs off my favorite album, well, we all know how that feels.

To digress for a moment, speaking of that favorite album, the Binaural tour is when I really embraced my Pearl Jam love and embarked on my first road trip of 7 shows in a row. Sleight of Hand was and still is my absolute favorite song, and I managed to hear it once during that run in 2000 - on Halloween no less! But that was it - total drought for 13 years. I'd pretty much given up ever hearing it again. But then, as Eddie began talking to intro the first song of the first encore, he mentioned wearing a clip-on tie, and my heart skipped a beat. This was it - the moment I'd been waiting for for so long. As luck would have it, I had started heading out to the bathroom during the break but then ran back when the band came back on stage earlier than we expected. I ended up standing next to our friend a few feet away from my boy friend who's been there with me every step of the way hoping to hear the song again. I thought he saw me come back, but he didn't, and while I was standing with other people having the time of my life, he was worried about me missing it. So, a slight hiccup in my magical moment as far as sharing it with him, but who knows? Maybe I'll be doubly blessed and hear it again in LA this weekend.

Speed of Sound was a sweet surprise, and then to follow that with what I call "my most beautiful song" Just Breathe *almost* made up for missing hearing Sleight with my BF since we were back standing together by then. Another magic moment. Severed Hand has NEVER sounded better, and the one-two punch of In My Tree and RVM just about wiped everybody out.

The second encore was an embarrassment of riches that fueled the party atmosphere in the room to such a degree that nobody wanted the night to end - especially the band.

Did I say the night was magical? Yeah, that pretty much says it all. And to share it with so many of the band's family members and hear those stories from Eddie made it even more so. We were right near them, and Mike's dad was rocking OUT! Beautiful to see.

LA almost feels redundant, but with the way the guys are playing right now, we wouldn't miss it for the world. After all, it's been awhile since we've heard Immortality... And we haven't heard My Father's Son yet either...

PS - Big thanks to everyone around us at the very end of the rail on Mike's side. Best group of people we've been to a show with! In fact, that could have been the best crowd as a whole ever. Way to go, San Diego!

Wow...12th show, and first time on the floor or anywhere that close. AMAZING.

Highlights for me (songs I've never seen before)...

    Nothingman
Army Reserve (1st time played in over 3 years)
Speed of Sound (4th time ever played)
The 6 LB tracks, including the SBM debut!
    All Night (how true!)
    Leaving Here

    Other Notes...

A shout out to my new friends from McGregor's (a good time!)...Christian, Jerry, Kevin & Steve! And what's up neighbor John from 4S!

The GA Only line was enforced (they made you turn around if you got in a different line...probably because the venue was steep, so they wanted to keep one line going down to the floor as organized and safe as possible).

Got in the GA line a little after the 6:30 door opening, went to the bathroom, got a beer, and got about 10-15 feet away on the right by Stone (BEHIND YOU BIG 6'8" GUY!!! :D ). Hung out for about two hours to maintain my position...but not sure if it was worth it, as anywhere on the floor was primo I'd say. Actually, I'm glad I did, because it sounded like the traffic was bad, so I didn't have to stress at least.

    BRAVO!!!

P.S. Matt's son is a spitting image of the younger son from Weeds! Good job up there!

Sorry if this is posted somewhere and I missed it

Who is Ray Cameron, the guy that played guitar on RITFW?
    Matt's son

Figured. Just wanted to make sure. Man they had a blast with him last night. When Eddie pored wine down his throat while he was playing, I thought Jeff was going to die laughing.

What an amazing night :) I am always at my happiest at PJ shows and I feel like they're getting better and better. Last night left me wanting to add even more shows to my ever growing itinerary. Thanks to a good friend for amazing seats and good company :) Tremor Christ, Light Years, Insignificance, Sleight of Hand, In Hiding, and In My Tree were highlights. Disappointed All or None was cut, but I'm hopeful it will be played in Cali! So cool that so many of the band's friends and family were there. They seemed to be so happy. Loved the addition of RITFW at the end. I've been in need of some PJ therapy and this did it. I love how many good friends I've made because if this band. What a different life... :) Smiling from ear to ear. Thank you!
