See but that's exactly my point.
What gives fans the right to "dissent" and what are they dissenting to? Why should the band sound any more soft than they do "edgy?"
If we believe art is not a commodity and instead something controlled by the artist, what gives a fan the right to dissent when they disagree with the direction of that expression?1998-06-30 Minneapolis

I always write a message about coming to the Midwest or MN in the comments section of pj's facebook posts. Does anyone else do that?I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell.

No - but maybe I should start! I always kind of laugh when I see it since there is usually no connection to the original post. But I guess it's no different then here, really.07-09-95 Milwaukee, WI (Summerfest) - 10-08-00 Alpine Valley Music -06-16-03 St. Paul, MN - 09-03-11 Alpine Valley Music Theatre -09-04-11 Alpine Valley Music Theatre - 09-30-12 Missoula, MT - 07-19-13 Wrigley Field - 11-15-13 Dallas, TX - 10-3-14 St Louis, MO - 10-19-14 St Paul, MN0

Gotta admit, upon first listen yesterday I was NOT diggin' it. Maybe i just wasn't in the right headspace, but I was less than impressed. Just not my thang.
Listening again today... I'm kinda sorta maybe possibly liking it! Yeah, I'll go so far as to say I think it's good. It was a weird flip from my stance yesterday, but the song's alright, I think it needed to grow on me a bit. I truly believe in not forcing yourself to like something, just because it's coming from your favorite band or whatever. I mean, a turd is a turd, and people shouldn't be afraid to admit that to themselves. Sirens however is not - I think it's a solid song and I'm excited to hear the rest of the album!0

I'm not saying I love it, but I tried to imagine it from a live perspective. So much of my PJ-fandom is informed by the live experience of their music. Songs that I may not love on album are fantastic live songs and sooner or later, I'm liking the song.
I just heard "Sirens" as possibly one of those songs. There's nothing fantastic about it and there's nothing terrible about it. But live? It might kill. And that's the value of this song - it's potential. I don't think there's anything on first-listen that's hate-able. True, it's not anything they've really done before, it's not experimental or edgy, but it's got potential. I like the steel strings though.
As far as what Pitchfork will say, or whether middle-aged folks will like it, who gives a shit? I think most people are comfortable enough with their tastes to not care about that shit.
Plus, who needs the radio anyway? Ready Harry? 1998-06-30 Minneapolis 1998-06-30 Minneapolis

Yeah Pitchfork is going to butcher the album in their review, as they tend to do with rock acts that are aging or not hipster-friendly. That's okay. I have such a love/hate relationship with Pitchfork. I check their news everyday, but bitch about their reviews often.0
