Ben Affleck is set to star as Batman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel, Warner Bros. has announced today.

As reported by The Wrap, Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production at Warner Bros. made the following statement earlier today:

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

He's been trying to direct and or star as Batman for years..... Daredevil sucked, and there should be a rule if you bomb as one superhero you can never try another

He probably still has splooge on his face from lobbying at WB

You never know, but I think he's goofy as Batman

For some reason that I can't understand, DC/Warner Bros must look at everything that Marvel does right and do the exact opposite.

And I like Affleck, even though I think he is a much better director than actor.

I feel like sending a resume to the presidents of DC and Warner Bros and asking them to hire me as the Vice President of common sense.

I've been wrong before. Michael Keaton as Batman? No, thank you. I was wrong. Heath Ledger as the Joker? No, thank you. I was wrong. I'm reserving my judgement on Affleck as Batman....although I'm wary.

    Goddammit.

I'm not even that big of a Daredevil fan, and I hated him for being in that movie. I know it's not necessarily fair of me, but I just dislike the dude's acting. He comes across far too much as either whiny or a caricature. Sometimes that's what's called for -- but not most of the time, and not for Batman.

Also, Ben will be in his mid-40s by the time this movie comes out -- Batman is not that old unless you're setting the flick in the Dark Knight Returns universe. Don't you want a younger actor to play the role for the next 10 years and next 4 movies? Or do you want a 50-year-old Batman? Or is this the 90s when Batman is played by a different actor every flick? I didn't necessarily agree with the casting of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, but at least they went with an actor who could believably play a high schooler/college kid for a trilogy or more. No. We get f--ing Hollywood. Sigh.

What is it that Warner/DC don't get? You don't need a huge star -- it's a friggin' Batman/Superman movie! Put some nobody in the mask who looks the part and is a good actor and who's face won't be distracting to audiences or turn them off and people will still flock to it in droves because it's a friggin' live-action Batman/Superman movie! Sigh.

And Zack Snyder? Seriously? That f--ing guy? Sigh.

Well, at least I still have my Nolan films to watch, my animated movies with the incomparable Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly, my comic books, and my imagination. All of which are better than the $hit storm this movie will likely be. Mother f--ing sigh.

i thought nolan was producing this!? ... how did he ever let this happen!? ... affleck should stick to directing - his acting is weak ... he can do the everyday guy ok but anything that requires depth or range - he doesn't have the chops ...

The same way he let Man of Steel happen, I suppose.

OK, granted, I haven't seen that movie yet, so I probably shouldn't judge. But I have read some reviews and am familiar with Snyder's other work to know the dude prefers explosions and fisticuffs more than character development. While a dose of that is necessary for a superhero flick, it doesn't need to be overkill.

true ... i did see man of steel ... i liked it enough as a superhero movie but it clearly lacked the depth of the dark knight trilogy ... i wonder if nolan has been compromised like pixar has been with disney ... the problem is hollywood deals strictly in dollars ... they only see $$$ in this project ...

If it was Chris Nolan directing and had his brother Jonathan along to clean up the script and story Goyer came up with, I would have faith. But I can't see Snyder/Goyer making this good.

I think Nolan and Legendary films have ended their partnership with Warner Bros. From what I read Nolan was not pleased with a lot of Man of Steel.

With the direction DC is heading, I don't blame Nolan for distancing himself from them.

Afleck doesnt have a very deep voice at all. I hope he doesnt embarrass himself and do a silly gravely voice like Bale did that made it sound like he was trying to talk while pooping in a library. :fp:

They have, but from what understand Nolan is still involved as the EP and Warner and Legendary are sharing a stake in Nolan's next project, "Interstellar."

I see Affleck as more a lazy choice rather than a bad choice. I'm still tempering my disappointment and will judge for myself after seeing what they do with it.

:fp: this has to be a joke, right?

i get bale didn't want the part, but if the studio is faced with the option of affleck or throwing enough cash in bale's direction until he says yes... you start throwing bills.

looks like i have to root for superman now
