Pearl Jam will play the BIG DAY OUT

ASharpy wrote:Totally agree with all of you 100%. Just can't see why they would play BDO, horrible festival and would much rather get a 2hr+ set than the 1-1.5hr set on offer at BDO. There are 10s of 1000s of us PJ fans in Oz that would be very disappointed with this, we'd probably still go but would miss the atmosphere, experience and camaraderie that you get from a PJ show. Praying this doesn't happen.
BDO headliners always get about 2 hours + anyway. When there is nobody on the main stage after them, they can keep on going! In Sydney at least, one of the side stages always finishes after the main stage, so there is no kicking people out the gates the minute the main stage closes.
Personally people should get over their irrational fear of PJ playing BDO. I really think that this is the year that it is going to happen. If it does, then it mean in the future we will not have to go through this same shit of people complaining about it every singe year, to only find out that they are not on the bill!
I have seen PJ at 2 festivals, and they have both been great experience. Granted they were in Europe, with less of a dickhead element in the crowd.2003 - Sydney x3,2006 - Reading Festival,2007 - Katowice, London, Nijmegen, Rock Werchter,2008 - MSG x2, Hartford, Mansfield x2, Beacon Theater,2009 - Melbourne, Sydney,2010 - I watched it go to fire!2011 - EV Brisbane x3, Newcastle, Sydney x3,2012 - Manchester x 2, Amsterdam x2, Prague, Berlin x2, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen,2014 - Sydney, EV Sydney x3

I agree with this. It's not ideal but whatever. It's just a music festival.Come to send, not condescend...0 -
I don't think fear is the right choice of word, but disappointment.
If Pearl Jam (or any band for that matter) plays a stadium gig, for example, the vast majority of people that rock up will be for the band, and the band alone. When it comes to a festival, it's different. People will still have particular bands they want to see, but the love is spread out. So it goes from being a community of fans focused on one band, to a community of fans spread out over a shitload of bands. The 'family' feel isn't there. It sounds a little wanky, I know, but that is how I see it.
Anyway, if it comes to seeing Pearl Jam at the BDO or not at all, the decision is easy. Shitty and unfortunate, but easy.0 -
Last year, and this year PJ have/will play festival shows in Europe, South America and in the US. Why should Australia by immune to this? Yes we have a large fan base, and they could easily do 10-15 shows around the country, but they can play to the same amount of fans touring with a large festival. PJ would have a lot of sway with festival organisers, and if they do headline, i would expect some side shows as well. They know not to completely alienate the fan base. It will just be less arena shows than we are used to here.
I have been to BDO 9 times previously. If PJ are there i plan of probably closing out my BDO career with an even 10. There are a lot of generalisations being thrown around about the crowds. Any festival, be it Splendor, BDO or bluesfest attracts the dickheads, just like any event does, but i have honestly not had a bad experience at any BDO.
In my mind i will be paying $130ish for pearl jam, and since i registered for BDO, the other $30 on the ticket price will mean i see a lot of great bands for a small amount of money. You never know, you might discover new music that you might like.2003 - Sydney x3,2006 - Reading Festival,2007 - Katowice, London, Nijmegen, Rock Werchter,2008 - MSG x2, Hartford, Mansfield x2, Beacon Theater,2009 - Melbourne, Sydney,2010 - I watched it go to fire!2011 - EV Brisbane x3, Newcastle, Sydney x3,2012 - Manchester x 2, Amsterdam x2, Prague, Berlin x2, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen,2014 - Sydney, EV Sydney x3

Yes, disappointment is the right word because I'd rather see them in a different venue.
If they are on the lineup and will be doing sideshows then I would be really pleased, I would just give the BDO a miss and try and get to at least one show.PJ: Sydney, 11th February 2003 ♥ Sydney, 26th January 2014 ♥ EV: Sydney, 20th March 2011 ♥ EV: Perth, 7th February 2014 ♥ EV: Perth, 8th February 2014 ♥ EV: Sydney, 11th February 2014 ♥ EV: Sydney, 12th February 2014 ♥ EV: Sydney, 13th February 2014 ♥ EV: Brisbane, 22nd February 2014 ♥ EV: Brisbane, 23rd February 2014 ♥ EV: Brisbane, 25th February 2014 ♥

Seems that might be NZ only. If Pearl Jam play then great! We'll see them in 6 months!!!!
To fellow Perth fans hoping to see them at the Perth Arena. Forget it! Pearl Jam wouldn't travel to Perth to play a 14,000 capacity venue, especially after they played to 30,000 in 09 on their own tour. Great venue but it won't happen.
To the people bagging the BDO. Not sure what you are on about. Its a great festival which has always had a variety of genres. Love it! Just have my fingers crossed its not a 40 degree day
Of the rumoured acts I hoping for the Cure, Phoenix, Karnivool, Tame Impala and Arcade Fire (no chance of Arcade Fire by the way)I had it all once I gave it back0 -

Of the rumoured acts I hoping for the Cure, Phoenix, Karnivool, Tame Impala and Arcade Fire (no chance of Arcade Fire by the way)My beef with the BDO stems from the fact that it has changed ALOT since the first few. Acts like Kanye West would NEVER have been even considered as an act. I'm not going to bitch about it anymore though because quite frankly, if it's going to happen, it's going to happen and I'm going to love seeing them anyway.

http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/pearl-jam-big-day-out-2014-appearance-locked-in/ I never trust this guy and his rumours but I have a feeling this will happen. Just hoping for sideshows but I think BDO will be fun, never seen PJ at a festival.0

I too feel a little bit disappointed with them most likely to play BDO. The best example of this was last year when RHCP headlined. Chili's would be my favorite band and i enjoyed their set, but throughout, i had to hear dickheads say stuff like.
"What is this? Why aren't they playing Give it Away yet?"
"I reckon they will play Aeroplane next"
"This is shit, they aren't playing any good stuff"
The main point of those comments is people go to a lot of festivals in Australia because it is cool and fashionable. Another example, Over the last decade i have seen the Falls Festival turn into a 'chilled 4 days of camping' to dodge the boys on a footy trip'.
I will certainly enjoy seeing PJ play their set, but i want more memories of their show than hearing pissed dickheads call for Better Man or Jeremy between every song.PJ

I SERIOUSLY hope this is FALSE or I am just in denial that the great knowledgeable Pearl Jam would even succumb to such a SHITTY event.
The BDO has sucked since the first time they claimed "this will be the last big day out" somewhere back in the 90's.
Vote 1 - NO TO BDO!0 -
I'd be disappointed if they played the BDO, they have played stadium shows in Australia with major success. The BDO over the last few years has deteriorated and is now just a place for bogans to start fights drink as much as possible and generally cause trouble.
Yes I like to get drunk watching my favorite band in the world, but I enjoy doing with other people who are there just because it's a festival. I'd only be going to the BDO to see them and would have little or no chance of getting up close to the stage were other music fans have been camped all day.
Not to mention the amount of casual fans screaming out for them to play the standard radio classics, Alive, Daughter, Even Flow and Betterman, instead of enjoying the show for what it is worth and enjoying what ever it is the guys through at us.
I really do hope that this Wednesday Pearl Jam's name is not on the list of BDO headliners.0 -
