Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) said on CNN's "AC 360" Tuesday night that reporters should be prosecuted for publishing stories with leaked classified information.

After King explained why he believes the recent NSA leaks pose a grave threat to national security, host Anderson Cooper asked him if he thinks the reporters who break stories off of leaked information should be punished in some way.

"If they willingly knew that this was classified information, I think action should be taken, especially on something of this magnitude," King said.

"I think on something of this magnitude, there is an obligation both moral but also legal, I believe, against a reporter disclosing something that would so severely compromise national security."

Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald, who broke the story of the NSA's phone record collecting practices last week, expressed his disbelief at King's remarks on Twitter.

Is is true, as I was just told, that Peter King on CNN called for criminal prosecution of journalists reporting the NSA stories?

But an affidavit to obtain a search warrant for Fox News reporter James Rosen's email account, surfaced by the Washington Post last month, invoked the possibility that he could be criminally liable for soliciting state secrets from a government source.

Most of us have always known or believed that big government was listening in on us, the Patriot Act made it legal. Snowden’s revelation about massive ease dropping was nothing new; it was the procedures on how easy the data is collected and how much was collected that caused a shockwave. Still our intelligence agencies were operating with the legal framework of the law and the information/data collected was classified as secret.

The difference between the NSA and Snowden and other so-called whistleblowers who steal and/or release classified/secret information, is that the NSA kept it secret, these so-called heroes went public without caring about the implications to the people, the country or our allies.

--Maybe you believe Snowden comes off as your hero and should be touring all the talk shows right now. But he is not – he’s in hiding, WHY!!!!

1. Snowden stole classified documents that contained American citizens’ identifiable, personal data and communications and, then fled the country to a China-controlled state before turning some of those documents over for publication.

--That makes him a TRAITOR.

2. What you don’t know and what the intelligence community doesn’t fully know is what other documents or unfiltered information did Snowden confiscate before fleeing the country to China?
