White Backspacer and PJ20 Giveaway!

I rarely post so please be patient. I was at dinner with family and friends, a friend noticed a uniformed soldier and his wife eating and asked the waitress if she could buy their meal. Awesome right! I thought since it is Memorial day and although this man obviously didn't die while serving I should try my hand at giving too.
Anyone who performs a good deed for any member of the military or their family post the story here. My wife and I will choose our favorite Sunday night and ship the record Monday. First place can choose which record.

Anyone who knows elwayvedder knows he won't post all he does for soldiers here for personal gain. Let me speak for him, all of you add to it. He has been a dedicated supporter and member of the yellow ribbon club, one that sends care packages to soldiers deployed over seas. He has also organized welcome home celebrations for soldiers returning home from active duty. He and Petrocs ran the pre parties for all 4 spectrum shows with 50% of the fund raising going to the yellow ribbon club. He was part of a local business that made beef jerkey for the soldiers. Take a look through the lost dogs pages for all his items that were sold to pay for the postage to send care packages to soldiers. This is just the tip of the iceberg that is elwayvedder. What a GREAT GUY!!!!!!

This is a well-meaning giveaway, but for people to post their own stories to win (and stories that might not even be true) is a bit off. I think giving them to elwayvedder and letting him use them for his projects is a great idea.

As a veteran, I thank you for what you did, and this giveaway. I personally think we are not thanked enough for all that we sacrificed. If you only knew some stories I could tell you. The world needs more people like you. Thanks again! - Ryan

The best deed you can do for a soldier is show him or her respect and gratitude for everything theyve done for our country. Thats what I always try to do.

Good lord I got a few pm's and a text telling me to get over to Lost Dogs.

First and foremost, much appreciation to all our Veterans and all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to give us the freedoms to have these forums. This weekend is Memorial Day weekend where we honor our brave that have fallen for us to be here today.

Second, I don't know what to say in response to all the nice and most generous posts here. Of course I would use them to further benefit supporting our Troops. My nonprofit has two missions: 1) Send tons and tons of care packages to those in Afghanistan as loving reminders of support. 2) "Rock Star" Welcome Home greetings when they come home from deployment.

This thread is a most generous offer by the OP and just the idea of the OP using generosity and giving to bring more awareness for US Troop support is amazing.

Speaking of which, I have to share an experience that happened Friday that I am most grateful for as it was truly priceless. My son's school's principal has made it his mission to make sure every child of his school every year learns the true meaning of Memorial Day and to make sure it's not known for BBQs and going down the shore. For the 2nd year in a row, my group, Operation Yellow Ribbon (a derivative spin off group as The Yellow Ribbon Club shut down in 2012) helped participate by coordinating the Welcome Home greeting of a father of a student who was deployed to war and he was coming to the school to speak to the kids. On top of that, the Principal got a lunch sponsored and invited any Veteran who is a family member of a student to come for free for lunch and there were about 50 Vets there sitting there eating lunch with their grand kids and kids. It was priceless. We had The Warriors Watch escort our returning Hero and about 500 kids were out in the parking lot going crazy, screaming and cheering as they arrived.

Here are some photos of the event as well as an article.

Thanks for letting me share. Thanks for supporting our Troops. It doesn't matter how you feel about war or which way you lean politically. We are all Americans with our brothers, daughters, sons, and daughters over there and they have families here at home too all making sacrifices that less than 1% of the population makes. For that and more, we are most grateful and wish them all a safe and speedy return to the land of the free.

elwayvedder gets my vote. he's done so much for the troops and he does it because he cares, not because he's looking for publicity.

Dave (elway) was literally a driving force in my safe return from Afghanistan. From sending me packages and reminders of home, to even a quick message checking in, our (my personal favorite) long talks through email/PM when we were both online at the same time. I cannot think of a better person to receive these items, and further benefit the well being and morale of troops overseas. OP, also a big thanks to you for the thought and generosity in even listing this giveaway. Happy Memorial Day to all the veterans out there, and our future veterans who continue to serve today (and a special thanks to all of the fellow Jammers who have served). :D

I guess the people have spoken and that is important. Elewayvedder was the only entry and none of the entries were by the man himself.... That being said I will PM him and send both his way to do with them what he sees fit. Originally I said Monday I would ship but duh the post office is closed so Tuesday it is.

This is who I thought of right away as soon as I read the OP. Between both of my rotations, him and the organization he is a part of sent by far the great care packages I have ever received. He's definitely the most deserving.

Good Lord everyone, I don't know what to say. I am most honored and humbled by your kind words and further, by the generosity of the OP as well as all of you as it would be easier for you to want these items yourself. I'm going to do great things with these items as the OP here just created another example of how giving leads to greater things. Stay tuned here in Lost Dogs for more details on these items over the next few days.

The warmth I have flowing through me from your kind words is priceless. Thank you everyone.

Jacob - it was our greatest honor shipping care packages to you- our Brave. You being on this forum and a Pearl Jam fan too just made us work extra hard to get you as much as we could. Welcome Home to you!! For all our Veterans - thank you for making the sacrifices each and every day so we can continue to enjoy the daily freedoms provided to us.

This weekend, I visited the graves sites of fallen American Soldiers. I made an etching of a Headstone. This person was in a notorious war on American soil, and he had just turned 20 when he died. So Sad, and I know there were younger soldiers that died in the same war near him.

I drove to Fort Hood, and saw it for the first time. It's still one of the largest active bases, Elvis was a resident there. He had left the building, though. :D

Yesterday, I went to a lake, and rode the boat all the way to the dam, or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir.

All these thing I never knew, and learned in a weekend.

To me, the best thing was to admire and honor the past and the present.

I've got Soul, but I'm not a Soldier.
I'm not that strong, or brave.

I played "Soldier of Love", for a friend that had never heard it before.

I know the contest is done, but I wanted to share. I have to leave for work soon. Thank you, if you liked it.
