Yea followed up with Corduroy sounds good..~ Enjoy The Struggle0 -
At a time where I'm starting to grow a little fonder if Backspacer I'm not actually a huge fan of this song although it's still ok. It was played during the brilliant second encore in Berlin 10 and it fit in with the other song choices perfectly. Still my favourite version by far. As opener I didn't mind it too much on the Isle Of Wight boot from last year but if they stray from a more traditional opener I'd rather hear them play something like NAIS, Garden, Breakerfall or Last Exit. The gems and rhinestones lyric actually makes me cringe a bit and even though there's a few lines I love I think it is a pretty mediocre set of lyrics for PJ. A lot of people here love it which is great so it's been a hit on the whole. After hearing it 5 times in 6 shows I'd happily not hear it live again but it wouldn't send me running to the bar either. Amongst The Waves however is another matter....

Love the song but I still want Yellow Ledbetter as the opener for Wrigley.
So many reasons why YL would make a great opener for Wrigley.92 - Orlando

THIS!!!
Just no...certainly not as the opener...it's such a Long Road to Wrigley, we don't need that opener...hint...

Got to let Ed's voice warm up a bit-Im partial to the traditional openers.
Id love to see them extend the jam at the end.
Great song.
For Wrigley, interstellar overdrive>corduroy would be perfect (even though Wash is my white whale and Ive heard corduroy 10,000 times).0 -
Definitely not a good choice as an opener IMO - so many other better choices.
Not a huge fan of the song, but it's not bad in the middle of the set.Bristow, VA - 5.13.10

I was listening to PJ radio when that show came on, that is what made me think ask the question. I thought it was great.Forced to endure, what I cannot forgive.0 -
Never understood the hype with this song. Haven't seen it live, but its just always been an ok song to me and not a song I'd choose on a setlist, let alone as an opener if I created a setlist myself.0

I tend to really enjoy it as an opener. It's not in my top 5 songs to open a show, but I like it better than a few other standard openers. Sometimes and Small Town are slightly inferior to Unthought Known as an opener to me.2008: Bonnaroo

Love the song, personally don't see it as an opener. I think Release and Long Road should be the only slow openers, although every show I've been too with those two opening have been on the back end of the highlight reel. Loved when they opened with Small Town in Phoenix, Last Exit in San Diego, Go in Vegas.Chicago 6/29/98, Alpine Valley (EV) 6/13/99, Alpine Valley 10/08/00, Chicago 10/09/00, Phoenix 10/20/00, Orlando 4/12/03, Tampa 4/13/03, San Diego 6/05/03, Vegas 6/06/03, Phoenix 6/07/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Orlando 10/08/04, D.C. 10/11/04, Chicago 5/16/06, Chicago 5/17/06, LA 7/12/08, Chicago 8/23/09, Chicago 8/24/09, LA 10/07/09, San Diego 10/09/09 (Front Row Center, Finally), Phoenix (EV) 11/4/11, Wrigley 7/19/13, Phoenix 11/19/13, Denver 10/22/14, Wrigley 8/20/16, Wrigley 8/22/16, Tempe (EV) 3/3/19, Phoenix 5/9/22, Tempe (EV) 2/26/230

Crowd killer.. LOL
The fans at pretty much all non festival shows are dead anyways these days and this song definitely helps.
Great Ed Solo song as well and such a great story on how he wrote it. Not sure if he shared it anywhere else besides FTL this past year.
I guess my question is when was the last time there was a great PJ crowd at a seated US show? Sure there are still tons of sing alongs but the energy has been lacking for yearsNashville '00

I dunno about all that. The energy for the 09 and 10 shows I attended was pretty remarkable.0 -

I'm starting to think I'm the only person who likes Backspacer......anyway, I love this song, rate it up their with many of their best, and contrary to some opinions, think the the lyrics are great, so fucking there! :-P0 -
Of the Girl very underrated as an opener0
