I don't get the "hate" for this album. I love it. Loved it within the first few listens. I had been through some sad shit with losing a friend right before it came out, and then lost two more not long after it was out, so maybe I tend to tie it to that. And the upbeat, fun nature of this album really helped me.
Have a few lines from Unthought Known tattooed on me in memory to one of these friends.
I loved that they branched out and went "poppy" with some of it. I think The End is one of the deepest songs they've ever released, and I don't care if it sounds like it should be on an E.V. solo record.
Same with Just Breathe, that song holds a very special place in my heart and always will.
I love each album for what it is... moving forward.
Thought the S.T. album was amazing, ED and Matt own that fuckin' thing from start to finish, and think
it has some of the most interesting guitar parts of any PJ record.
I remember when Binaural came out and people were trashing it saying "It's not a PJ album".
But now people are dying to hear songs from this album live.
I've loved every album they've put out, they are one of the few bands that i'm never over critical of, because i'm all about the over all journey they are taking me on.
I'm game for anything they give me. (except Sweet Lew)

PS whatever happened to the 'jam' part?? It's like they are always rushing through their songs now just so they can fulfill an OCD need to play a diverse set list...
The better live shows to this day still had fewer songs, longer songs, more passionate songs.
Anyone else feel like they're just blurting it out fast and moving on to the next one...?
Evenflow used to be like a funk groove song, now it's like listening to Japanese people arguing in fast forward.
People play fast when they are nervous. Or just running through the motions. What's the deal? Where's the feeling?
I remember rearviewmirror at MSG at the end of the last tour having like a 12 second jam to it. No heart. It was embarassing. Where's the part where you channel out the bad stuff and put it in the rearviewmirror again? Where's the anything, again?
Backspacer seems to epitomize this approach. Let's just rip it out and pat ourselves on the back and get on to the next one. The set list collectors would rather hear 17 2 minute renditions than 2 17 minute renditions. But that's how it used to be.
I really really really really hope the next album is something worth hanging on to.
Maybe we need a drummer change again to rekindle some flame? Matt Cameron's skills are so much better showcased with soundgarden. PJ are entitled to get old, and get interested in a different sound, but so then maybe they can get someone who is more tailored for boring, cutsie wootsie wuss punk rhythms and free up Matt Cameron and Soundgarden to save rock humanity?
I really like the new soundgarden album. It reminds me of the whole point of this mess which is to kick a lot of ass.
The only line I agreed with was replace matt Cameron.
Really, you don't hope the next album is something worth hanging on to?

That's so anti-PJ. Why are you so anti-PJ??? BACKSPACer RULED!!!!
"oooo oooo gonna fix it up ooo ooo yeah yeah yeah yeah yeeeeaaaah gonna fix it up again ooo oooo ooooooooo bono is my new best friend yeah yeah yeaaaaaahhhhhh fix it up yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I love me now!"

How can everyone see this and not say anything??!
You obviously don't know the song that your hating on so much. The lyrics never say gonna fix it up again.. ANYWHERE! It just shows your ignorance.
My feelings on backspacer is this - it's a lazy effort. The songs from that album kill the energy of a live show.
That doesn't mean there arent some good songs there.
I love
Got some
Unthought Known
I enjoy
The fixer
Just breathe
The end
Force of nature
Speed of sound solo was great, sucks on backspacer. I'm a drummer and the 3/4 swing country beat ruins that song.
Songs that are terrible and show by lack of live plays.
Amongst the waves - played a lot but kills the energy every time I've seen it.
Gonna see my friend - listen to the intro then play goo goo dolls biggest album, same guitar part intro...
Johnny guitar - lyrics are terrible and admitted by Ed in an interview to be written on the toilet at the studio, looking a pictures on the bathroom door.
Supersonic - pj isn't a punk band or a pop band... Why they mixed the two ill never know.
I say this but enjoy riot act the most. So to each his own.
We shouldn't say it sucks because I might love it and you might hate it. Seems that every album has this problem except ten, vs, and yield. Anything else is very debatable.0 -
its got some of pjs best songs on imo
Force of Nature
Unthought Known
the end
Amongst The Waves
Just Breathe
these song like the likes of betterman and LBC ,release will stand the test of time .0 -

The only thing that should have been changed about BS is replacing Speed of Sound with the demo."I get into a state of consciousness that I can't explain. It is about feeling and not thinking. I get positive chills and insight into things that I can't get to any other way. It is Healing of the Soul." - Mike McCready0

this album sounds like they're having a midlife crisis... they are so talented as a band that some good songs came out of it, but as a cohesive album, its not up to PJ standards. There is no mystique to Backspacer.Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...0

I like BS. Not sure where the hate would come from. I honestly can say I don't "hate" any of their albums. There's ones I prefer over others, Yield will always be #1 for me but I can always find something good about every album they've put out. There are songs on every album I don't care for (with the exception of Ten which was perfect), but I think BS was just as good as any other album that came out in the same year.2006: Boston I, Camden II

You're joking right? ... :fp: I was making fun of the lyrics.... Duh. :fp: :fp: :fp:
But we really have a bigger issue here; which is that you chose to single out "fix it up again" as opposed to "bono is my new best friend". Amazing.
