Saying it's the video games, the movies, the music......is just another way to sidestep the real issue of guns.

So because mental health is costly, complex, not as easy as taking away rights
of responsible people to defend their loved ones
we should not pursue the solution
    that will help all people.

We are not the rest of the world but why do you live here instead of Australia?
That your home country? I'm confused you speak of it so highly why not return
    and raise your family there?

mental health issues occurs in every country. 20 year old's in france aren't committing mass murders who have aspergers syndrome. so again, where is the link between mental health illness and mass murders on a world scale? Their isn't one.

yes the rest of the world are way ahead on the gun control issue then America. If this doesn't wake people up to seek change their will be more mass murders. I'm Australian yes, and just this weekend was saying these mass murders are enough to want to move back to Australia. The US gun culture is scary.

I bet when Lanza'a mother bought her guns she considered herself a 'responsible' gun owner. that worked out well.

There you go Zoso. You are not welcome here if you dissent. Piss off and go to Australia....

Seems to be the 'new' approach.

I'm reading this guy was autistic and that he tried to buy a rifle three weeks earlier but the background check stopped the purchase.

I wasn't aware I had to be a gun lover to live in America.. I will know better next time then question why 10, 000 people are killed each year with guns in the country I live in compared with 200 in Canada.

I heard on the news gun owners in CT are saying they have the tightest laws
that no laws would have stopped this from happening. This is true.
But the proper care for the shooter may have.
if his mom didnt have guns,we wouldnt have this conversation right now..
why because he could only get a gun from his Mom?

What are you missing here? is it the drive to make the world pay for his pain?
well,im staying at the facts..he got the guns from his mom..
those kids will be alive if he didnt get those guns..

yes he didn't want to wait.. but if he waited he would have been approved. the law stopped nothing he just didn't want to wait.

It has been reported that he may have had Asperger's. It has also been reported that he did wish to purchase a rifle (which he could have done at his age) but, as the law requires since he was at a dealer, he was told that he needed to wait until the background check came through (a couple of weeks? Not sure). He did not want to wait, therefore he did not pursue the purchase. If he did, he would have had the rifle.

And then he went to use the guns that he had used before and were readily available in his home.

The law stopped him from making an immediate purchase.

and there is no link between autism-spectrum disorders and preplanned violence. Most background checks ask if someone has ever been declared mentally incompetent (which would mean hospitalization for being a danger to self or others), which is why the VA Tech shooter was able to get a gun - he had been in partial care, but never inpatient. I don't think the diagnosis of the shooter in the CT shooting would have been a factor in the background check.

I'm also reading that this guy's father and the Colorado guy's father were set to testify in this LIBOR scandal. Mainstream media obviously won't report that but it seems odd, too coincidental.
  • your post seems to be against gun legislation, so i assume you're opinion to the problem is an outright ban on all guns?

I'm totally against the banning of all guns but there's no reason at all for citizens to own semi-automatic rifles. Leave that to the military and special police forces (SWAT, etc).

Those need to be banned and the ammo industry needs to change to suit those bans.

Well now, this makes sense. Thank you.

Shit doesn't have to be (probably shouldn't be, either) all or none - nor does anyone need to pounce on, or to BE pounced on - for advocating one or the other, or falling somewhere in between.

And we wonder why DC can't get their shit together...oy vey!

wow why so negative? Always painting in me in a devious light...
perhaps there is a message here more about you than me... yes?

You see I try to feel him... his motive to be so far from home when clearly
he is sensitive to his surrounding.I understand sensitive people.
It's important for ones peace of mind to live somewhere they can bond to.
I learned this in 91 moving here.
A culture shock just to a different region. It's not to be taken lightly.
It can trigger depression, personal failures, terrific unhappiness.
There is no place like home.
