There you go Zoso. You are not welcome here if you dissent. Piss off and go to Australia....

Seems to be the 'new' approach.
That's the sort of thing that makes it hard to hear anything else that's said.

The law stopped him from making an immediate purchase.

yes he didn't want to wait.. but if he waited he would have been approved. the law stopped nothing he just didn't want to wait.
and there is no link between autism-spectrum disorders and preplanned violence. Most background checks ask if someone has ever been declared mentally incompetent (which would mean hospitalization for being a danger to self or others), which is why the VA Tech shooter was able to get a gun - he had been in partial care, but never inpatient. I don't think the diagnosis of the shooter in the CT shooting would have been a factor in the background check.

I'm also reading that this guy's father and the Colorado guy's father were set to testify in this LIBOR scandal. Mainstream media obviously won't report that but it seems odd, too coincidental.
  • your post seems to be against gun legislation, so i assume you're opinion to the problem is an outright ban on all guns?

I'm totally against the banning of all guns but there's no reason at all for citizens to own semi-automatic rifles. Leave that to the military and special police forces (SWAT, etc).

Those need to be banned and the ammo industry needs to change to suit those bans.

Well now, this makes sense. Thank you.

Shit doesn't have to be (probably shouldn't be, either) all or none - nor does anyone need to pounce on, or to BE pounced on - for advocating one or the other, or falling somewhere in between.

And we wonder why DC can't get their shit together...oy vey!

cp3iverson - not many on the AMT are crying for an outright ban of all firearms (even from the European - or rather non USA resident - side). As you said, some of these have no place in the home and should not be available. Being able to build up a real arsenal has no place in the home either. What is, in general, being advocated are much tighter controls/regulations in how guns are obtained, the checks, how they are stored, registration, etc. These should also be nationwide and not left to each state to decide what they want to do or not and cover internet/show sales/non licensed dealers (which are a free for all at the moment).

Nothing that would take away 'rights' for the decent citizen.

"The Second Amendment, crafted in the immediate post-revolutionary years, is more than 200 years old and was designed to protect the right of local communities to raise and maintain militia for use against external threats (including the newly formed national government!). It bears no relationship at all to the circumstances of everyday life in America today. Yet there is a near religious fervour about protecting the right of Americans to have their guns - and plenty of them." - Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard

Perhaps this this why the gun culture is so engrained into American culture?

Interesting statement from Carlos Santana on the recent shootings in America:

We are a violent country; that is our history & our present. It is internalized in all of us. We kill for money, for power, for influence & for attention. I say "we" because I am a taxpayer & my money supports wars abroad as well as mass incarceration at home. Time to stop acting surprised when Americans kill children on our own lands; we do it abroad in the name of "anti terrorism" "foreign aid" & "democracy" everyday. On every continent. Indigenous children are most often the ones under attack, simply because their existence challenges America's reign of superiority. Until our culture learns to value human life over currency & power, this will be our reality. True, a country built on dehumanization is likely to perpetuate cycles of violence. There is hope though, because culture is not set in stone! We are subject to it, but we also shape it. Banning weapons is not culture shaping, it is just law. Shaping culture starts with how we educate our youth on how to place value on community & our place in Mother Nature. & we must speak truthfully about our history. Do not lose hope, fam. Let's get educated on this issue of violence. Did you know that Obama has enacted a law that allows the military to determine any neighborhood in "terrorist regions" cleared for killing off all teenage-young adult males? Even at home, we criminalize our youth before they even know how to read, destining them for a future in prison or 6 feet under. Do you value all life the same? Do you think things have no value except as commodity? Do you think children whose parents don't like America's policies of violence deserve to die? Let's change what we teach our future generations so that they don't have to wake up everyday in the middle of multiple wars. All it takes is a willingness to change how we treat each other & how we perceive ourselves. Life is too beautiful to keep robbing children of their futures.

My room mates just bought a Shotgun last weekend. We already have a pistol. I have not even looked at it.
It's to heavy for me to lift anyway. All the guns are kept in the walk-in Safe. None have ever been loaded even.

Being from Texas.... Buying a gun is like buying Auto Insurance. You may not need one, or use one, and it's not uncommon.

I don't even have a paintball gun.. (I'm that far behind)

I hope the Zombie outbreak isn't soon.
