pj23yanks wrote:Great time and show in Pensacola. Looks like I picked the right festival to go to after looking at the reviews from Atlanta. I honestly chose this festival because why not go to the beach for a weekend instead of a city, I already live in a city! Yes choosing this festival was a much more expensive option between flight and hotel but much more to do during the day and was a real vacation. This was a festival show but they played as many songs as they might play during a regular show. This show went two hours and twenty five minutes and I've been to regular shows that went that long. Didn't have to fight at all to get to the front as we showed up half way though GBV's set. Everyone here was really nice.Loved being on the beach for a show. We were maybe eight people in from the stage Mike's side. I will say this not many fan club members on the beach but surprisingly had a lot of room being so close to the stage. No pushing and no shoving. Crowd was pretty tame for the band even compared to a festival show but the band was on fire. Was praying for Oceans as an opener never thought it would happen as it was a festival show and was pleasantly surprised. Happy I didn't buy VIP not worth it just like Philadelphia

Yeah, I was one of the suckers that got VIP tickets for the fest. WHAT A SCAM. I've been to well over 100 concerts and have never seen a crowd treated to shabbily by a hosting venue. Having said that, this was my 13th PJ show and I've never been that close before. I was six people from the stage. It was amazing and there's a completely different energy than sitting even a couple of sections back. I was also in front of that big dude that took the header. Glad to hear he's okay.I've been to some shows...0 -
Thank you. That answers my question.Sheets Of Clay wrote:EmBleve wrote:

There were probably about 1/3 of the people at Deluna Fest. Also the crowd was way less crazy. And PJ played for 30 extra minutes and the setlist was better.

Sorry I wasn't more specific. :oops:0 -
Just got back from Deluna fest...great show. This was my 19th show and although I like the comfort of indoor assigned seat shows, this was an amazing place to witness the rock and roll that is PJ.
Gorgeous Beach...absolutely perfect weather. They completely rocked, band was in a great mood.
"of the earth"..ripped my face off... it was amazing!!! Really impressed with the whole show it was non stop.
I was in the VIP Stone side and couldn't have been closer.
I have to list one complaint...the VIP freak show of jamming too many people in a small place that have all paid 1000+++ dollars is a very bad idea. Lot of upset people and the next night they just flat out wouldn't let some VIPS in to the fenced off area. You cant have people pay a premium and treat them like that.
I feel the same way I do after all PJ shows....counting down the days to the next one..probably a while but they are by far the best live band around.
Thank you for doing what you do PJ.0 -
Just got back from the most aggressive bender of a weekend I think I can remember. We planned on just coming for this year since the lineup was fantastic but after seeing that set-up on the water, the great people, and cheap...cheap prices compared to the Northeast cities, we are making this a yearly trip regardless of who is playing. Nothing beats plopping down in the sand with drinks listening to great music for 3 days and hearing all of you old-timers tell us your stories of seeing PJ and the guys back in the early 90's was fantastic

Saw the show of our lives!!!!!
Waited 13 hours in the sun and sand and would do it all again anytime!!!
We were the 3 crazy blonds and two guys in red t-shirts front row, left rail. Kept showing us on the jumbotron-we were so stoked, jumped and screamed the entire show. Met the most amazing group of hard core PJ fans, spent our waiting time bonding, holding our ground and telling concert stories. What a great group of people!!! Can you all please move to Chicago so we can hang out more often??
Can only agree that Mike was on fire, he worked the crowd like he was having the best time. I must add, he looked like a kid again! Love the hair! Ed sounded sooooooo good! We, like some have said, were worried he was losing that voice after years of abuse, but NOOOOOO! Ed was fantastic! Even my 9 year old daughter was thrilled to hear they opened with Oceans. 2.5 hours of show is way more than we expected for a festival, thank you Pearl Jam! I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Saw the Foo Fighters the next night as well. Only second row for that show, we do have our priorities! They were amazing as well! Can't believe we saw both PJ and FF that close.
It's gonna take me a couple of days to come down-we will be doing the festival thing again next year, if the boys of PJ are willing!Alpine Valley Music Theatre, WI - Aug 29, 1992

We were as close to the stage as we could get without bring in VIP. During the intro to black a man near us collapsed of exhaustion and it took us a minute or so to get the attention of the staff. Eventually with the help of some good people the EMS staff got the man to an ambulance. Wherever he is I hope he is Doing better. Despite the somberness surrounding that we had a great time.
Svenhoek,
Well, I logged in this afternoon to read the full setlist and ran across your post. Not really sure how to start into this, but I'm the guy you're talking about. I'm sorry I got in the way of the show for a few minutes - definately not what I intended or wanted. For me, yesterday started in Jacksonville at 5am. I got into Pensacola around 2pm and was in front of the stage by 2:30pm. By the time I fell (fainted, collapsed, face dived, blacked out, or whatever else seems appropriate) I just didn't have any energy left in me. They took me back and ran some tests which turned out well. I drank 3-4 bottles of water and felt a lot better. I was able to leave after sitting around for about 30 minutes.
For those who were around me and came to my aid during the show, thank you! I'm very lucky that my favorite band has a loyal following full of caring and compassionate people. It was pretty blurry for a few minutes, but I do remember a tremendous outpouring of concern and support from those around me. From the guy who yelled for everyone to "back the f##k up 5 feet right now!", to the lady who wiped my face with a wet cloth, words can never express how much I appreciate all of you being so kind to me. Again, thank you!

Dude, I know exactly how you feel - I believe you were coming into the medical tent as I was leaving. I collapsed during Grievance and was carried out by security down through the middle barrier to the front of the stage and out. Escambia EMS was awesome, although I worry I ruined part of the show for a lot of people cause it was such a scene. They gave me an IV and I rebounded like nothing happened.0 -
The setlist is long for a festival because their slot was 2:15, not the usual 2 hrs. They started a little late (less than 10 minutes) and ended about the same amount late. Two encore breaks, but pretty short - long enough for Ed to change t-shirts and drink something (he looked like he lost about 8-10 pounds of water weight during the show). The setlist for this one was better than the one for Atlanta and their slot longer too.
They sounded great. The It's OK tag on Daughter and Baba O'Reilly made my night. Encore sets really blew the proverbial roof off the dump ('coz on the beach, no literal roof). Give Deluna credit because the main stage sound system put out HUGE sound. We saw them at ACL in '09 (right after Backspacer was released) and that PA wasn't nearly as loud and they closed that fest - no other acts on at the same time. Whatever sound system PJ had in place at the Garden in '10 also couldn't hold a candle to Deluna and the fest was outdoors, not inside an old a-- barn. I dunno how anyone heard bass from another act at Deluna if they were relatively close to PJ - we were on the festival side, not the ocean side, of the stage and could only hear random noise on occasion when Ed addressed the crowd late.
Dumbest comment of the fest: when Ed cameo'd with The Gaslight Anthem's SOLAT cover around 3.5 hours before PJ's set, some daft woman asked "is that Bruce Springsteen?"
Most on-target comment of the fest: Corin Tucker played Sunday in front of a crowd small enough not to hide her family and friends. She asked, "did you guys see Pearl Jam the other night?" [big cheer] "I heard they killed it."
That's about right.0 -

I thoroughly enjoyed DeLuna Fest despite the fact that the promoters totally ripped off the VIP purchasers and especially the PJ travel package people. The PJ set was fantastic. The crowd energy was great. The band really seemed to be having a good time. The setlist was amazing for a festival show. I met so many great PJ fans at the show and at the Wishlist party on Saturday. One of my favorite things about this band is going to shows and meeting so many cool people who share my passion for Pearl Jam. I have been to 16 shows. Each time I go to a show I meet new people. I don't know if there are many other bands who have the type of following that this band does. I am just grateful to be a part of it all and I hope it never ends.3/14/94; 4/22/03; 7/9/03; 10/5/04; 5/17/06; 8/2/07; 8/5/07; 8/23/09; 5/4/10; 5/9/10; 5/20/10; 5/21/10; 9/3/11; 9/4/11; 9/2/12; 9/21/12; 7/19/13; 11/15/13; 11/16/13; 12/4/13; 12/6/130

I was lucky enough to get first at rail on Eddies side. 10c member Charles was standing to the left of me and he got a bottle of wine from Eddie. He was kind enough to pass the bottle around so we could all get a small taste from the wine bottle Eddie drank from.
Here's a short clip I took of the moment. I hope to hell Charles see this. Thanks again Charles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3L-WbK6yZQ&feature=plcp
I got lucky too and Eddie handed me an unopened bottle of wine at the end of Yellow Ledbetter. Here's my reaction. Scream like a stuck pig. Best moment of my short life.

Yeah man, it's kinda trippy to think about. I brought myself to watch a video of "Black" on Youtube. You can see the security guards looking in my direction and EMT's running in front of the stage to reach me. Surreal, really. I can only imagine how much commotion took place to get those folks to me so quickly. I agree, the Escambia folks were amazing! Forever grateful! I'm glad to hear you are good as well!
For the folks who might have missed out on "Black" (and "Comatose" - go figure) because of me, here's the link to the video:

To whomever took the video, thanks!
To everyone else, it's time for me to move on from this debacle. I'll leave you with my favorite rule from the movie, Wedding Crashers:
"Rule #6: Do not sit in the corner and sulk. It draws attention in a negative way. Draw attention to yourself, but on your own terms."
Take care,
