Pearl Jam:
DeLuna Fest
Sept. 21, 2012
Pensacola Beach, FL

Set List
01. Oceans
02. Interstellar Overdrive-(Barrett, Mason, Waters, Wright)
03. Corduroy
04. Got Some
05. Once
Ed wonders when Pensacola got so beautiful. He mentions asking a local person how they were doing and getting the response, "I live and work 20 yards from the Gulf. I am doing great!" He says "we haven't been here since 1994 so thanks for welcoming us back."
06. Given To Fly
"It isn't often that we get to play next to the ocean…" Ed then spots some people on a boat close to shore and waves to them.
07. Amongst The Waves
Ed reminds the audience that Florida is one of the states that has a new voter ID law and urges them to make sure they have a photo ID and not to lose it if they get naked and go swimming after the show. He also asks them to check with older family members and make sure they have a photo ID because social security cards, library cards and student ID's won't work but gun registration cards will. This gets a cheer from the crowd. He goes on to say "No matter who you are going to vote get out there and vote."
08. Grievance
09. Even Flow
(Ed says he thought he knew Mike McCready but Mike just informed him that Mike was born in Pensacola. Ed goes on to talk about meeting some people from "Wounded Warriors". He says that he had heard an overwhelming statistic about what the troops are going through. He implores the audience to do anything they can to help out. By educating themselves, donating or visiting the website and helping people in the military who are suffering.)
10. World Wide Suicide
11. The Fixer
12. Daughter/It's OK-(Cole) (Ed asks the audience to sing for him and sing loudly because he can't hear that great after 20 years of playing)
13. Of The Earth
14. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town
Ed talks about losing someone close to you and how painful it is. He explains that this song is for his friend John (Johnny Ramone).
15. Parachutes
16. Unthought Known
17. Do The Evolution
18. Porch

Encore Break 1
(Ed thanks the people that created the festival and the bands that played. He tells the audience that the night isn't over yet and Stone starts the intro to Black but stops after a few bars when he makes a mistake. Ed jokingly says, "I guess it is over, thank you good night…Stone then starts the song again)
19. Black
20. Comatose
21. Why Go
22. Rearviewmirror

Encore Break 2
(Ed introduces the band, referring to Matt has the hardest worker no matter what he is doing and Jeff as a best friend a real bad ass. He talks about bands like Ben Folds Five and Guided By Voices that have gotten back together and continue to make great music and says that they (the audience) are the biggest reason that Pearl Jam has managed to stay together and keep playing for the last 20 years. The audience corrects him by pointing out it has been 21 years. He tells them they can join the band on vocals tonight)
23. Better Man/Save It For Later-(Charley, Cox, Morton, Steele, Wakeling)
(Ed talks about asking Robert Pollard of Guided By Voices if he would like to play a song with them. Robert said he was going to stay for the show but that he would be too 'fucked up' to play. Ed admired his friends honesty. He goes on to say this next song reminds me of Robert and another friend back home named Lukin.)
24. Lukin
25. Alive (during 'Alive' Ed climbs the up a short distance on some scaffolding on Mike McCready's side. This gets a huge cheer from the crowd.)
26. Baba O'Riley-(Townshend)
27. Yellow Ledbetter/Star Spangled Banner

Truly one of the best pearl jam shows I've ever seen (This was #16)! It was a greatest hits set for the most part, but I thought the bands energy was awesome! We were as close to the stage as we could get without bring in VIP. During the intro to black a man near us collapsed of exhaustion and it took us a minute or so to get the attention of the staff. Eventually with the help of some good people the EMS staff got the man to an ambulance. Wherever he is I hope he is Doing better. Despite the somberness surrounding that we had a great time.

  • What a great show tonight! The band sounded great! They loiked great! Love Mikes haircut! The setlist had some nice surprises- It's Ok tag, then Of the Earth was sweet!! And Parachutes sounded beautiful. You know they dont play a song often when Ed has to bring the lyrics out with him- lol! The guys looked like they were having a great time the whole night. What a beautiful night too. Although it was very hot and sweaty within the vip area.
Speaking of the vip area, expect a lot of bitching (rightfully so!!) about what went on with tht area tonight.
I won't air my grievances here, my letters are going to the appropriate parties involved. But in summary for those who weren't there: about 150 of us 10c-ers paid top dollar for vip packages (as you know). The front was supposed to be designated for us for PJ (we had neon green bracelets). However, the area was open all day long to the other general vip package holders. So there were fans who were sitting there all day long in front, who were expected to just up and leave their spots for us at 9:00. Doesn't seem fair on either end. It was a scene. Cops were involved, some people left, some refused.
All in all it was a great show, the guys brought it, lots of energy! I'm glad I bought the package (hotel is right at the entrance to fest), & weather is beautiful! The swag bag is sweet- the limited poster is awesome!!!!!

I ran over and hung over the fence from vip to check on him- don't know if you caught that. He was starting to come to, still not looking great. Paramedics came quickly, within a few seconds.

Looks like it was really great! I would love to hear Oceans someday. I know these festivals will always have pretty predictable setlists but it's all about the delivery and this year PJ have been really consistent in that department. Hope everyone had a really great time!!

The set list is a great one, many hits, sure, a part from songs like Of the Earth (I love this one - I hope I'll get to hear it live one day!), but it means a even deeper involvement & a huge energy coming from the audience! Oh, I wish I had been there!!

  • Perfect. I wanted Big Wave since I figure it will be the only time I could possibly hear that but looks like I won't get it since they didn't bang it out last night.

It was already pitch black outside when PJ went on but I'll try and snap pics during the day... The water is seriously about 82 degrees its pretty damn awesome.

I haven't seen the band since the Avocado tour 06 in Grand Rapids. It's been tough to justify going halfway across the country since they haven't been 'touring'. Couldn't pass up on a beach side set from one of my favorite bands. The setup for Deluna is pretty crowded but it's so beautiful on the beach it doesn't really matter. The band smoked and Eddie's voice was perfect. After having listened to some of the more recent bootlegs I thought he might be lagging a little in the vocal department. Not So! This show was every bit as good as The last Show I saw 6 years ago in GR. Greatest hits? Not really I mean for a 2 1/2 hour show I would expect some crowd pleasers, but that's ok cause it please me too. My highlights were Parachutes, Daughter/It's okay(been waiting a long time to hear that tag!) DTE, Grievance, Baba O'riley, and my little bro getting to see Lukin played live. Oh yeah and Comatose! Great set, Great venue, Great people, Great night for music.

Also Ed played SOLAT with Gaslight and it was incredible!

Now for my views...1st off..location..we were left side str8 out in front of mYike...and holy shit was he on fire,. Like many others, my sis, her bf and his bro...let's just say they all know mike really well now and I even have to admit... I'd never seen him shred it like he did last nite. We were also very close to him making it all the more fn awesome.
Oceans lead off was majestic.. It was complete darkness by now and I remember gettin hit w/ a nice cool breeze off the ocean right after they started.. It really hit the spot after the kind of hot sunny day we'd had.
Not sure why some post it was a hits set... For a fest show. There was 10+ songs the crowd was clueless.. During grievance(one of my sons favs an he's 14, Steven I miss u, mom an Carly, b home monday). I had to look far an wide to find people that were moving to it...
Gotta wrap this up. Post a better view of both shows when I'm back to a comp tues..
Very very good show... Random fans I met after that didn't really know pj were really impressed an loved it.
Can't wait for tonight to see em again.
Peace , love, & pearl jam.

    Svenhoek,
Well, I logged in this afternoon to read the full setlist and ran across your post. Not really sure how to start into this, but I'm the guy you're talking about. I'm sorry I got in the way of the show for a few minutes - definately not what I intended or wanted. For me, yesterday started in Jacksonville at 5am. I got into Pensacola around 2pm and was in front of the stage by 2:30pm. By the time I fell (fainted, collapsed, face dived, blacked out, or whatever else seems appropriate) I just didn't have any energy left in me. They took me back and ran some tests which turned out well. I drank 3-4 bottles of water and felt a lot better. I was able to leave after sitting around for about 30 minutes.

For those who were around me and came to my aid during the show, thank you! I'm very lucky that my favorite band has a loyal following full of caring and compassionate people. It was pretty blurry for a few minutes, but I do remember a tremendous outpouring of concern and support from those around me. From the guy who yelled for everyone to "back the f##k up 5 feet right now!", to the lady who wiped my face with a wet cloth, words can never express how much I appreciate all of you being so kind to me. Again, thank you!

  • Great time and show in Pensacola. Looks like I picked the right festival to go to after looking at the reviews from Atlanta. I honestly chose this festival because why not go to the beach for a weekend instead of a city, I already live in a city! Yes choosing this festival was a much more expensive option between flight and hotel but much more to do during the day and was a real vacation. This was a festival show but they played as many songs as they might play during a regular show. This show went two hours and twenty five minutes and I've been to regular shows that went that long. Didn't have to fight at all to get to the front as we showed up half way though GBV's set. Everyone here was really nice.Loved being on the beach for a show. We were maybe eight people in from the stage Mike's side. I will say this not many fan club members on the beach but surprisingly had a lot of room being so close to the stage. No pushing and no shoving. Crowd was pretty tame for the band even compared to a festival show but the band was on fire. Was praying for Oceans as an opener never thought it would happen as it was a festival show and was pleasantly surprised. Happy I didn't buy VIP not worth it just like Philadelphia :)

  • I was 6 feet from rail, right in front of Mike. Fying solo, and got there at 2:15- PJ started about 9:40- LONG wait with no beer or food, but for the best view in 20 years of shows- definitely worth it!

MIKE: Thank you for the amazing performance- never been able to interact w one of the guys during a show like that- pointing, waving, smiling back- the guitar pics were raining down all night!!!!! I got 2, dude next to me got 4! Being able to see Mikes fingers up close: priceless. He absolutely shredded it.

The whole band was on point, and the scenery was beautiful- may I suggest a tour of only beach shows!?!

Highlight: I waited around and was fortunate to get the 1st page of Ed's lyric sheet for Parachutes. (Ed had 3 sheets w/ lyrics on it and let them flutter down to the stage as he finished singing the words on each one.) Printed lyrics, but handwritten notes and markings. I would like to post a pic, but I have know idea how.

Also appreciated that Deluna was donating some funds to USO and Wounded Warrior- nice that Ed mentioned this great organization- and encouraged people to help in any way they can.

During Ledbetter, a guy was making his way through the crowd w/ an American flag. He brushed past my shoulder and just to the right of me (b/w Mike and Ed about 3 feet off rail). As he crossed in front of me, I saw Mike look up from his guitar and spot the flag- a few moments later, he broke into the Star Spangled Banner- the cameras focused on the flag, and displayed it on the giant screens. Not sure if Mike was already planning on playing it, but it sure looked impromptu. Either way, it was one of those moments that we, as PJ fans, live for. Just a big stupid smile on my face ever since. :P

Thanks to Pearl Jam and all who made the show possible!
