    I watched "into the wild" for the oh lets say 15th time last night --- i dont know if it would help with being depressed but i think it helps with perspective and appreciation of the things we take for granted on a day to day basis

    When I get depressed, I watch the first 45 minutes of Full Metal Jacket and then feel thankful that I never joined the Corp ... or maybe it's that I find Lee Ermey amusing. :)

    On a serious note, runs and walks always help me when I'm in a funk. Getting some old Far Side books is medicine as well. :thumbup:

    I haven't seen this thread before. So sorry you've hit a rough patch. But there's lots of us who have been there and got through it, and I know you have had rough patches before and you made it through, you can do it again .

    Don't give up your plans for a career change, you've wanted it for a long time now. Just take a pause. The weekends can be tough, keep busy with the little things, walk, get some fresh air, play guitar. Come on here and talk inane shit (this particularly helps me :) ). Try and make sure you eat healthy, cut out caffeine and stimulants. If you smoke don't try and cut that out, you don't need the hassle.

    A few years back I went through a tough time and couldn't eat/sleep/do anything. It probably sounds daft, but even though I'd read them all before, I read the Harry Potter trilogy, one after the other. It was easy to read, but interesting enough to hold my attention, but most importantly it gave my mind a rest and time to heal a little from the way I'd been feeling.

    Happy birthday! Enjoy it, truly.

    I found that when I was in a really bad place the only thing that helped me through was working and friends to keep me distracted. I had only a handful of friends growing up, not all at one time, spread out through the various cities we lived in. It would usually only be one friend per place but that's okay, I was a solitary type of person to begin with.
