I think I'll more than likely come down for the first night...that way if it's my cup of tea, I'll be back for the second night. I also kind of want to get down to the venue a tad bit early on the first night to see if I can possibly upgrade my seats with a scalper. I doubt I will as the seats aren't bad, I've just never done that kind of thing and don't know if it's worth it. I kind of have the suspicion that it isn't.

I know it's about an hour walk from The Palms so that shouldn't be too bad!
You do NOT want to be walking to the Stratosphere after dark trust me. The area from the RIviera to the Stratospehere has kind of become a dead area especially with the Shahara closing and is filled wih shady characters. Try to find something further up the strip. A comparable priced place to the Stratposphere is The Ecalibuy and it's alot safer, closer to the Palms, and is alot closer to the heart of the strip.

That is a very good deal but the only bad thing with the Rio is you would need to get a cab if you wanted to check out the strip. I guess technically you could walk but it's a good little distance and the roads that you need to cross are quite hectic in that area. Where's drummerboy73 when you need him?
