Hidden messages...

I'm new to Ten Club (and new to vinyl), so this may be a silly thread...however, today as I was unwrapping my new Pearl Jam Twenty record ( :D ) I happened to look at the matrix number etched on the run-out area of the record and noticed a peculiar message of "1 2 3 o'clock 4 o'clock rock". I was a bit surprised, so I looked at the others and noticed there were 'hidden messages' on all of them. This made me take a look at my other PJ records and, low and behold...there were messages on some of them as well!

Here's what I found...

-Side B - DON'T DELAY, LEARN TO PLAY, START TODAY.

PJ-White Backspacer
-Side A - GRAMMA MARGE, DAUGHTER OF PEARL 1918-2009.
-Side B - R.J.O.K.V.H.J... M.R. FOREVER

-LP 1 Side A - 1 2 3 O'CLOCK 4 O'CLOCK ROCK
-LP 1 Side B - THANKS MOM AND DAD
-LP 2 Side A - BE LIKE WATER BE LIKE WIND
-LP 2 Side B - NOTHING CAN SURPASS THE MYSTERY OF STILLNESS
-LP 3 Side A - OUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT: ASSISTING TO FREE THE WEST MEMPHIS THREE
-LP 3 Side B - LIVE ALOHA EVERYDAY. MAHALO NUI LOA .... PEARL JAM

The original pressings I have of Vitalogy and Yield have nothing on them.

Has anyone else noticed this? If so, what have you found?

    Well that's a nice surprise, always thought that it was just numbers there on my LP's so really hadn't taken much notice till NOW....nice one, thanks ;) :thumbup:

    I love when members (new or old) post about this. I think you listed all of the hidden etches for PJ vinyl. I've been collecting and harboring since the 90s and can't think of anything else "sketchy"...anyone have Rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991-2003) on vinyl? have yet to own that one...

    and on a sidetrack, The Eagles x-mas 7" single, Please Come Home For Christmas/Funky New Year (1978) has Merry X-mas Everyone! etched on some copies.

    Just checked Live On Ten Legs doesnt have any but my Backspacer (normal not white) has the same messages you mentioned above....

    Now im on the search thru my vinyl collection!! Class!!

    Love those PJ20 ones, good spot!

    One of the Backspacer singles has UNITY etched on it.

    As a vinyl freak myself, I also look at the etchings for differencies, hidden secrets etc. I think you listed all of the hidden etches for PJ vinyl (+ amongst the waves).

    I haven't received PJ20 yet, but the etching sounds really cool. And my guess is that each etching is a different message from the band members ;)

    My guess:

    Jack White/Third Man Records does this with many (if not all) of their recordings. The one in particular that stands out in my mind is side 3 of the "Live In Mississippi" LP (The White Stripes Final Show) the etching says "Meg told me before the show..."

    Nice find!

    King of Limbs deluxe version vinyl has inscriptions on all four sides. Can't recall exactly what they are but sides A & B link one phrase and C & D another.

    I notice that from my Ukulele vinyl, but I wasn't part of the forum at the time, I haven't opened my white backspacer yet, and haven't received my PJ20 either... gonna check the others...

    This is quite commonplace, I've spent many hours scrutinising my vinyl collection for them and found quite a few interesting ones, can't think of them off the top of my head though.

    If you are interested in collecting vinyl in general (beyond Pearl Jam, I mean), this is a great site, you can check what exactly you've got your hands on.

    So as I was checking out my vinyl for these hidden messages, I realized that I had 2 VS/Vitalogy Super Box Sets in my possession. I didn't remember ordering 2 so I checked my past order history and found that that I did order one in the spring and one this fall. I don't see how I did that. I can't remember, the 10c re-offer it this fall?
    It's still sealed. Maybe I could trade someone for a sealed PJ Twenty vinyl. :roll:

    Yes, I've noticed this. :D

    I must be wierd - because I always look at "everything" - I'll even get my magnifying lens to see every little word that is written... :)

    I would change LP1 Side A for LP1 Side B - MM would say Thanks Mom and Dad... (remember GRAMMYS?) and MC carries the TEMPO, on the rest I agree, nice!!!!!!!!!!
