I saw them open for Drive-By Truckers. If you're familiar with that band, that should give you at least a minimal idea of who they appeal to and what kind of music they create. Overall they've got a great rock sound that I would say is influenced by a lot of blues rock, some country and folk.
My cousin just got into the Truckers recently so I decided to give them another shot and the one thing that I noticed is that I only enjoy their music while under the influence - other than that, they are a little too country for me. Anyone else feel like this? I saw them live at Roo 08 - first time experiencing them and I really liked them a lot. Sorry - not trying to derail this thread. Back to the Heartless Bastards 8-)

I can only handle one new band at a time if I really want to give them a chance, so once I have listened to HB enough to let them sink in, I'm going to give them a try

they are playing Houston on Sat, March 10th. This should be cool, cause they are playing the studio room in Warehouse live. Super small room, so the show should be pretty intimate. Saw Liam Finn in the studio room in October. looking forward to this. :P

I burmed a copy of The Mountain and gave it to my gf and she loved it! She kept saying that the lead singer sounded like someone, but couldn't figure out who.

I downloaded Stairs and Elevators last night, but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. Stoked though. Probably check it out a few times on my upcoming roadtrip to south Florida on Friday to see MMJ 8-)

looking forward to this show. Matt, do they sign stuff after? If you decide to do Houston too, it would be awesome to meet you and have a beer before the show at Luckys or woodrows.

yeah, they're pretty damn approachable. when we saw them in 2009, we talked to them for quite a bit afterwards & had a beer. they all signed our show poster, which was really cool. chatted w/ 2 of them before the San Antonio show @ the bar, then ran into the other 2 after the show & talked for a bit. all very nice people!

if we make it down we'll certainly let you know, Kyle. not sure how often we'll make it to Houston next year...maybe once or twice before we move out of state. the same goes for you...if you come to Dallas, let us know!
