This was our 6th time to see them tonight...holy shit. They blew the roof off the place. Small venue, maybe 300 people there & the vibe was great!! They played most of their new album (out on 2/14/12) & the new songs were fucking great. If any of you have a chance to see them on this tour, DO IT. They're easily one of my favorite live bands out there & I'd love to see them open for PJ someday. Will post pics tomorrow!! Great night in San Antonio!!!

Glad you had a great time Matt. Heartless Bastards were awesome at ACL 2009. So in a way they did play a show with PJ, just on the stage directly across from the main stage. or does that count??? great stuff.

I have to say, seeing Clutch, theToadies and Dead Weather open for PJ on the main stage was epic. I agree though, seeing Heartless Bastards open a PJ tour proper would be really awesome.

yeah, Kyle...they were great that year. they sound great @ festivals, but the club stage is where they sound the best. loving the new guitarist as well...it really adds a whole new dimension to their sound. plus, he's a really cool guy. my wife & i talked to him & the drummer for about 20 minutes or so after the gig. good times. 8-)

Amazing band. I discovered them back in '09 when I first heard The Mountain, which is hands down one of the best pure rock n' roll albums I've heard in probably 10 years. From there I ended up buying their previous 2 albums as well, and I've been a fan ever since. I'd step over my own mother to see them live, but unfortunately they don't seem to play Canada very often, except maybe Toronto or Montreal. One of these days I'm gonna have to plan a road trip around them.

Thanks for the info on the new album! I've been scouring the interwebs over the last few months trying to find some info, as the band never seems to update their website. It's kind of annoying.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

Heartless Bastards are awesome. I've seen them just once, opening for Drive-By Truckers, but they were exceptional!! I didn't know they had a new record on the way that's awesome. Keeping my fingers crossed for a SLC tour stop.

I saw the Ettes open for the Dead weather at HOB. Oh man, it was awesome. They were fantastic. People where chanting "one more song" at the end of their set. came home and downloaded some songs off Itunes. Great band. So what an awesome night cause Dead weather was phenominal too. I saw them open for PJ too, at ACL but it was awesome seeing them in an indoor small venue setting on the "sea of cowards" tour.

That's the only time I've seen them too, but I'd definitely like to see them again.

I'd start with The Mountain. I'd liken them to perhaps a cross between Wolfmother and Black Keys? Others may disagree.

hard to compare them to anyone else i've heard...hmmm...definitely has a hard blues drive mixed with some bluegrass. whatever the hell it is, it's awesome! :)

i love all 3 of their records....i'd say "The Mountain" is the most mellow of the 3. i'm partial to "All This Time" myself & their first record "Stairs & Elevators" is great.

    shit, buy them all! :D

btw---they sound great on vinyl! spin my white copy of All This Time well...all the time! :D

Never heard Wolfmother either - trust me if it wasn't for this place I would still be listening to the crap on the Alt rock station

I do like the Keys though - a lot. I'll have to check them out

I saw them open for Drive-By Truckers. If you're familiar with that band, that should give you at least a minimal idea of who they appeal to and what kind of music they create. Overall they've got a great rock sound that I would say is influenced by a lot of blues rock, some country and folk.

My cousin just got into the Truckers recently so I decided to give them another shot and the one thing that I noticed is that I only enjoy their music while under the influence - other than that, they are a little too country for me. Anyone else feel like this? I saw them live at Roo 08 - first time experiencing them and I really liked them a lot. Sorry - not trying to derail this thread. Back to the Heartless Bastards 8-)
