WOW. That's brutal. And sad. :(

Glad you went to the group though. I think there's really something powerful and encouraging about meeting and talking with people who are in the same situation. People that don't need an explanation of what's happening.

I've been thinking a lot about your chemo and hoping that it will be smooth sailing and the weeks just fly by, till you can't believe it's already over. :-D

There's always hope...the doctors didn't think my grandma was going to live, but she pulled through and lived another 7 years. Hopefully it will be a similar situation with this guy.
Seems like a lot of people I know are getting cancer...a friend of mine just got throat cancer, he's about your age Rob, it was stage 2 and they did surgery and now his voice is really raspy, but he's doing better. I'm glad to see so many positive outcomes here on the board and elsewhere.

Checking in....it's been a little rough around here lately too, hence not being around much. I am so sorry to hear about the guy. That's the real shitty thing about cancer, you become involved in a whole new society and it sucks because some don't make it. We have come to love so many of the kids being treated with Sammy and it can be heartbreaking. I fully get the fact you can't stop thinking about it. I hope, too, he defies the odds and lives to be an old man.
Stay strong, Rob, you have so much to look forward to. xxxx

I just looked thru all the cards you guys have sent me in the last 4-5 months. there must have been 50. they made me laugh and made me mist up a little. thanks!

I also just watched an "OK, what now?" type DVD of my situation. very uplifting. I have no doubt there are ostomy patients wallowing in self pity and shutting out the world, but not these people. surfers, rock climbers, hikers, cavers, race car drivers, etc. Rest assured, when my chemo is done and my ass is healed (it's STILL sore  ), I'll be skiing and biking and motorcycling and maybe even running...altho I had knee surgery that might preclude that. Yep, I'll be doing everything except working

  • Hey Rob,

Been thinking a lot about your group session and I'm at a loss for words other than to say keep your head up and stay positive. I feel for you and can't imagine how you feel. The closest I can relate is when my dad was deathly ill and in the hospital, there was a family in the waiting room waiting for word on their loved one who had been rushed to the hospital and they were distraught, with blood curdling wails and screaming. It was extremely difficult to witness and I felt like an interloper as well as wanting to express sympathy but feeling guilty that at that particular point in time, my dad was going to make it. Weird, depressing and tough all at the same time. So hang in there and the emotions you're having are normal.

Now get back to that beer drinking and stay positive. Big ol' fat juicy ball of positive Chi coming your way.

    Peace.

I did 20 minutes on the elliptical, 20 on the treadmill and another 20 on the elliptical today. literally, my first cardio in 6 months. it. just. about. fucking. killed. me.

but it felt damn good to sweat again. I will keep it up.

while sweating, I watched the counting crows DVD of august and everything after. it really took me back....codie and I saw them right after they had broken out in 1994. it was a tiny place, no AC in june in vegas and I remember adam pogoing the entire time
