I know some people are uncomfortable with this topic, but it's something I think about from time to time. What Pearl Jam song, if any, would you play at your funeral? Off He Goes for me. Just curious.

Really? Nobody out there thinks about this? Is it weird?

I actually plan on being cremated, but will have an entire soundtrack planned for any get together friends and family may have. I haven't completed it, but it starts off like this:

    Wishlist
    Black
Wish You Were Here (not PJ but great)
    RVM
The Trial (again PF, not PJ)
    Given to Fly
    YLB
    Present Tense
    In My Tree
    Oceans
    Betterman
    Leaving Here
and so on and so on

Off He Goes was played at a good friends funeral...

I guess Man of the Hour would work for me :)

Unfortunately, I've been to a lot of funerals lately so I have been thinking about this.

Man of the Hour (for sure)
The End (if the cause of death jibes with the lyrics)
    Off He Goes (maybe)

  • Long Road. I nearly played it at my granny's funeral

  • Shit, I was literally just thinking about this very thing over the last couple of days. I absolutely know one song I would love played, and it isn't even a Pearl Jam original....

PJ's rendition of Crown of Thorns

Yep. I want that played 100% for sure.

  • Yeah...

Off He Goes...cause I can be a shitty friend
Man Of the Hour...just freakin perfect.

    Nuff said
"Then the Spirit of God hovered over the water, and God said, Let there be music, and there was Pearl Jam."

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

And, as an encore, I think Immortality would be a nice ironic send-off too, if only for the title (and the fact it is my favorite Pearl Jam song ever released!) :)

    Take me as-is.
    I don't need this.
    I die just to live.

    I won't stay long.
    I'll be long gone.
    I die just to live.

I was being more shallow than that ... but, yes, we can go deep into the lyrics to discuss its relevance at my (or anyone's) funeral. 8-)

  • I always wanted to have Black played. And now, ever since I heard it, in case something happens to me, that they have to play the June 27th, 2006 St Paul show's version of Black. That version of Black is the best one they ever played in my opinion, and the guitar solo does all the emotions that are involved in the loss of a loved one. The passing, the pain, the missing, then comfort in the memories. To those who don't know the version, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9vrFmwiSk4
After hearing Black for more then 20 years, it still gives me tears.

    Other Side
    Long Road
Arc (last song of your existance on Earth)

I sang The End at my little sisters funeral almost a year ago. That sucked, someone acutally recorded it and then tried to make me watch it a few days later. I walked out of the room. This is private to me, but it is also real to me, that is why I posted. I always imagined her at my funeral.

I'll Echo a couple already mentioned:
Wish You Were Here (non-PJ) The End (non-PJ again this time)
    And then would add:
      Tremor Christ Garden
