You folks need some earthquake preparedness training.
You don't want to run outside - it's the falling bricks and electrical wires that will get you.

The best thing about an earthquake? It's over by the time you realize what it was. No hiding in the cellar worried for hours like in tornados or hurricanes.

i didn't think it was a big deal at all. i was on the phone with someone. it felt like someone was just fucking with me and shaking my cubicle. i put the guy on hold to figure out what was going on. deciphered it was some freak kind of weak earthquake...then went back on the phone and continued selling loans like a champ.

I was at work (on the third floor of a building with 4 floors and a penthouse) which is roughly 108-120 miles from the epicenter according to the driving directions.

I was at my desk and a squirrel or mouse was running in my ceiling while there was a gentle rumble in my coworker's workstation. They say animals sense these things. Seconds later, came the vibrations which lasted a little while. It wasn't just a little shaking, it opened a small file cabinet's drawer. It was much worse that the one we had a 5 a.m. last yr. You can make fun of me, but I panicked and my coworker used to live in CA most of his life and he said it was an EQ when I asked what it is....I thought we had an explosion (chemicals) in a lab downstairs. We were evacuated from the building and I'm glad it was such a beautiful day out. I know that when I went outside, I must have looked like I just saw a ghost. I got in my car and turned it on the all news station and was surprised when the announcer said it was a 5.8 (then 6.0) EQ felt even in Ocean City, MD.
I understand my relative in Ontario felt it.

Some of us in N.Y. have been traumitized since 9/11, every day since in Manhattan since has been that much more Stressful, sorry if that doesn't meet some criteria of yours.

Sorry if you took that wrong - was trying to be helpful actually - but I can understand the motive to get out of the building with that horrible memory. We had a couple of people killed in central CA a couple of years ago because they went outside and a brick wall colapsed on them. So if you do get out, get far away from any masonry buildings - and cables.

I was being sensitive, i'm usually the first person to joke about something/anything for that matter. i get where people were coming from, glad it was a small quake though, thats some crazy shit.

I was in the subway in NYC, couldn't tell anything happened. Walked outside at Canal St & Broadway, thousands of people in the streets, just like every other day in NYC  . Had a appointment to see my lawyer. He shows up late because of the building shaking & the evacuation  . This leads to me leaving his office late, now I need to take a $60 cab ride to JFK because I'm behind schedule.

I'm leaving an earthquake to go home to a possible hurricane in Florida, although it looks like it's not going in that direction now.

With all these natural disasters I'm hoping nothing happens when I get to Wisconsin. Is it too soon for an ice age .
So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)
    What You Giving

I suggest you step out on your Porch.

I was in my office in Stamford, CT
felt nothing, but others said they felt it, I think a lot of folks just used it as an excuse to stop working and start talking

And seriously, if were living, working or visiting Manhattan on 9/11, you get nervous when the lights flicker, let alone the building moving

 animals have way better hearing than us humans. Wonder how my cats reacted when the earthquak happened. I remember in the winter time my cats were staring at the laundry room door for some reason and when I opened it up there was a bat in there. Somehow they heard the bat, and I didn't.
