I was reading under the post about the poster tube issue (most recent), and admittedly I'm a little shocked a big venue like this would engage in arguments with their patrons. I wasn't one of the ones they were talking to, but even as an observer...it rubbed me the wrong way. Thoughts please?

Reading the big long paragraphs from the Alpine Valley person makes me shake my head.... not at the person, but at society, more specifically N. American society, or even more specifically American... The lawsuits you hear about are just nutters!
And I don't blame the person... If everyone drank (or acted) responsibly there are a lot of things that we could do in life... But sadly lots of people ruin things for the majority who do things responsibly and that's the unfortunate truth :(

    (regarding tailgating, anyway)

Poster issue aside, whomever runs the Social Media (aka Facebook) for Alpine Valley certainly is not a pro... he/she is constantly belittling and berating peoples' opinions and comments about the venue. Agreed that many of these people will bitch about anything, but still even those that voice valid concerns sometimes get shit from this guy.

It is upsetting, but the fact is that I doubt anyone else besides the guy/girl who runs the social media knows what is being posted on their FB wall. This person takes things personally, and forgets they are representatives of a business. Just bad PR skills.

I love the fact that the guy give real answers to questions instead of the "Sorry we don't have that information" PR bullshit you get from the 10c and others.

Seems to me the guy is just being honest with his comments. Something you don't get a lot when you deal with venues. He knows tailgating is a part of the concert experience and most tailgaters are having a good time. But the workers at Alpine do have to deal with the assholes as well, and i'm sure there will be a lot of assholes. Yes, if you have a concert venue that comes with the territory but obviously none of the workers enjoy dealing with a lot of the crap that goes on. Hell, I saw U2 in Croke Park in Dublin and they wouldn't even let you bring drinks inside the venue! Imagine that, I'm seeing U2 in Dublin and I can't even bring a beer to my seat! Now that's something to bitch about.

I thought it was great as well. I agree though that coming from the venue it definitely doesn't look too professional, BUT after all I do really like seeing them talk truth instead of the PR talk you usually get!

I am tired of stupid drunks....

So no tailgating in the lots would work for me, but I get that people love to do it!

It's nice that someone from Alpine is actually responding, but how about trying to be a little bit professional?
  • Agreed...you are a professional orginization. No matter how nasty the customer's comments may be you cannot respond with rude and/or disparaging remarks. Yes, it's okay to comment about the dangers and hassles of tailgating but this person is far from a professional. I'm sure Live Nation's regional office would not support these comments if they were aware they existed. I for one, would probably get fired for making such remarks.

I dont think that nonsense law suits are an american thing. I think this is a problem the world over. What I do think is an American problem is that people do not take responsibility for themselves. Some moron jumps off an rv, "somebody should have stopped me". No, you are an idiot.

I really liked the Alpine Valley responses. I think people are acting like babies about this poster tube thing. Buy it outside and be done. For most of us the posters will be gone long before we get there so this will not even be a problem.

I remember at the chicago shows in 2009 they gave you a free poster tube when you bought the poster. Maybe they will do the same at Alpine.

Answering all of the comments is great, but being a sarcastic wiseass in the process is not.

They answer all questions within a few hours and they're usually very professional.

I don't think anything posted was -that- bad.
