They really don't bother me at all...I'm not going. Just debating the issue. When you are dealing with paying customers, a more sensible head should prevail.
Enjoy the weekend at AV.

i think it's refreshing to get actual answers with the PR spin
it won't last if someone reports this up through the ranks... but i find it valuable
like i said... we're getting answers
hopefully the person is in the know and it's not Crazy Breed bored at work
Whoever is doing the PR over at Alpine's fb page they know what's going on 100%. :P0 -
I don't blame the Alpine Valley person for getting snippy. He/she has to deal with overzealous fans who think they know more then the actual promoter who has expertise in the field.
Odds are, AV has reasons for what they allow/disallow based on prior experience.0 -

yes, it seems to me he/she was responding to a few people that were just posting negative comments and he/she was just pointing out that they weren't contributing anything to the thread.
and yes, they have very good reasons for allowing/disallowing things. and actually I think they have a much, much more liberal policy as compared to a lot of other places I have been to.
the bottle caps are so that if the full, closed bottle is thrown it is like a solid object and it will hurt people. without the cap, the liquid comes out as it travels in the air, won't hurt so bad.
poster tubes - people can smuggle things in to venue, too much for security to check them all0 -
I can imagine a PR rep is one of the toughest jobs out there. When you know people are spouting lies, spreading slander, being rude and insulting; your job is to bite your tongue and do damage control, and often aren't allowed to tell all of the details that would cover your own ass. This guy had a few slips, but generally, he has answered valid complaints with valid reasons.'05 - TO, '06 - TO 1, '08 - NYC 1 & 2, '09 - TO, Chi 1 & 2, '10 - Buffalo, NYC 1 & 2, '11 - TO 1 & 2, Hamilton, '13 - Buffalo, Brooklyn 1 & 2, '15 - Global Citizen, '16 - TO 1 & 2, Chi 2

They said bottle caps are fine didn't they? Not trying to bitch but it would really suck having to carry around a bunch of open water all day.rick1zoo2 wrote:the bottle caps are so that if the full, closed bottle is thrown it is like a solid object and it will hurt people. without the cap, the liquid comes out as it travels in the air, won't hurt so bad.0 -

not sure what Alpine's policy is on caps. I just know that is the reason a lot of places don't allow them. At a show at the New Meadowlands in NJ this summer, you were allowed to bring in a bottle of water, but on the way in security opened it and poured into a big paper cup. at least we had water, it was extremely hot0 -

I wonder as well...some people I hear are interested in maybe disguising their water as vodka by screwing the cap back on...I wonder how thorough their searches are....just wondering for those other people of course0 -
I have no problem whatsoever with the Alpine comments.
It says you cant bring a tube into the venue. Probably dont want you hiding drugs, alcohol, knives, fireworks...yes I have seen people try to smuggle all this stuff in there. I saw a guy try to smuggle his snake into a concert there once. So I have no problem with them not allowing tubes.
I am also thankful they will allow you to buy one. But if you dont want that, you can keep your tube in your car, buy a poster from the outside merch table, and bring your poster back to your car and put it into your tube.
I dont see what the problem is. And I dont think he/she was being all thatrude either.
Its crazy how the customer can be as rude as they like, but the business has to be polite. I dont get it.Turn this anger into

They do this so you cant throw a bottle of water/beer at the stage. A beer in a cup wont go as far, because the beer spills out....
That being said, they are allowing people to bring in their own water because of the length of the show. They just want it factory sealed so you dont bring in a gallon of vodka or tequila. Or something even more flammable.Turn this anger into

HAHA!
Anyway, it's not whine-y to hold a discussion. I worked at the cable company, and dealt with assholes day in and out. But, I NEVER got snippy with my customers, even if they did "deserve" it.

Agreed. I would LOVE to go off on some of my customers but the day I do is the day I'll be looking for a new job. It just is not good business to let yourself get into a pissing contest with paying customers. When that contest is taking place in a public forum like Facebook it is even worse.___________________________________________

At Lollapalooza this year they didn't even bother to look at seals let alone what color the fluid was, just kinda felt it was plastic through the backpack. This is AV though... Realistically there is no way that security can check every seal on every bottle for everyone unless they had a shit ton of security or they want people waiting in line forever. So the cap thing seemed to make sense, but I suppose that would take time to unscrew all those caps.
Now that I'm thinking about it, what about empty water bottles? They can't possible make people get rid of the caps from a Nalgene bottle or similar.
Oh well. I've got more important things to worry about, like how I'm gonna dispose of my pig carcass

I agree with the venues statements. a small percentage of drunk idiots tend to ruin future good times for everyone else. They must be firm, but fair and it seems they are.
We live in a world that is overpacked with negative people who will just complain to make themselves feel better about their own shortcomings. There's Pearl Jam, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson......and then everybody else.0
