wow.
That would've been fucking EPIC. Wish I coulda been there for that one."I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

Good lord! Great to see a thread on The Hip...on this board or any other!
I'm sort of a rare breed - a Hip fan who lives in the Southeastern part of the US. I'd imagine that most people in this thread are from up north - Canada or the border states that pick up Canadian radio. But I was turned on to them about 5 years ago by a Canadian friend on another internet BBS (non music-related) and I fell in love immediately!
Awesome band! Not sure I'll ever get to see them live since I doubt they make it this far south very often (hummm...sounds like another band I know.... :P ), but I own every album, have a nice little collection of boots, and watch YouTube for any footage.
Hope all you guys getting to go to shows this summer hare a great time!0 -

The good news is you're in luck! The Hip play the south quite often, usually on every tour. Unfortunately their shows don't get a lot of advertisement in the U.S., so you just have to keep close tabs on their website for tour dates. Here they are performing "Daredevil" in Atlanta in 2009:

Wow...it would be awesome if I could see them some day. And yeah, I was already a fan in 2009, but heard NOTHING about them being here. I guess I shouldn't be surprised - I don't think I've ever met anyone here in ATL who knew who they were before I told 'em! I pimp them to whoever will listen...and some people have liked them, too...but it's not like they have any kind of massive fan base down here to speak of.
I think you guys keep the best Canadian bands to yourselves and send us Nickelback and Justin Bieber on purpose, just to throw us off the scent. :P
I am on their Facebook feed...I wonder if I would get any news of them coming here that way.... What do you think?0 -
Happy Canada Day again,

Im really getting sick of seeing this setlist. Im sure it rocks live and being there is great, but dig depper dammit. This looks just so standard. Where are the really good songs that never made radio play. I guess since there is no new album, we get this greatest hits sort of sestlist this time around. I can live with that, if I have to.
Here's the Hip doing a really cool Stones/Doors cover combo to cheer you up, not anywhere else but my channel:

Awesome! I'd never heard The Hip play either of these you posted so far today, and they are fabulous audio quality, too! Thank you so much for uploading these over there! What a treat!!! If you don't mind, I'm gonna send you a friend invite over there so I can keep up with future uploads, etc.
You made my day: New-to-me Hip!0 -
Oh...and direwolf, watched that Atlanta video today also - great stuff! I wonder where they played here...there are a ton of venues, I know....
Great live video - also pretty doggone good audio quality!!! Thanks so much for posting the link for me!!!0 -
Well just got the power back on here after a miserable storm hit the Windsor area last night and threatened a postponement of the Hip show......fortunately, with a slight delay, they were able to go through as planned and didn't disappoint! Restless, you will not be happy, it didn't stray much from the setlist of the July 1st show in Toronto.....they played the same songs, just in a different order, and started with "End of the Rink" and used "Blow..." as the opening for the encore. A pleasant surprise was "Scared" as the second song for the encore but then you lose "Wheat Kings" in the process.....the show, for me, seemed like a greatest hits package, but i can't complain, it was my 10th time seeing the Hip and it was their first show ever here in my hometown (and i managed to score front row seats).....the band was tight (as always) but Gordie seemed somewhat reserved and stumbled through the intro of "100th", forcing them to start again....i've come to expect the unexpected from this band and though they did play a couple of my favourites: "It's a Good Life..." and the "New Orleans/ Nautical Disaster" mix, i was still hoping they would pull out a couple of surprises (eg. "Fifty Mission Cap" would have been nice....10th time seeing them and still haven't seen this song live :( ) The new songs translated well, "Drip, Drip, Drip" was catchy, and i hope this tour serves as a prelude for a larger potential tour when the new stuff gets released.....and if anyone happens to go to their show at Bayfest in Sarnia, PLEASE drop me a line if you could get me the tour poster.....went after the show and they were sold out ($15) :( I'll cover all charges and throw in a little something for the effort Thanks Hip Nation!'93 Toronto

that is awesome!!!!glad you had a good time in the hometown! Im still excited for the show im going to, greatest hits package or not, but it just seems strange since their setlists are never static for this long. Ive been talking on the hip board too and they seem to think it will pass after the documentary and festival circuit is over and new album drops.

Enjoy!
I KNEW I could hear a third song in there that I knew. It's that guitar part, I just couldn't place it, but it is definitely Jimi's Third Stone From The Sun. It starts at the 3:00 mark. Very cool.
Damn that is a sweet song. Well, after a slow start, it's nice to see this thread has some life. It's a joy to see some familiar names in here (restlesssoul, locked). And welcome to all the newbies as well! Here are some videos of the three new songs the band has been playing on the current tour. Over on the Hipbase forum they had originally asked the bootleggers not to post the new material, but since they're all over youtube now, the cat is pretty much out of the bag. So here they are:
Transformation (this one rocks. My favorite new song so far)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiHhwyEWiH8
Drip Drip (beautiful song. Can't wait to hear the album version when it comes out)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjyjaNb2 ... re=related
Streets Ahead (cool up-beat pop song with a great chorus. Sounds kinda like a sister song to "In View")
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU8EaOe5 ... re=related"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. Nice work guys breathing new life into this thread! Restless, i was just wondering, is there a discussion board out there for Hip fans.....i used to go on the "hipfans.com" a few years back and they would have live posts and threads like here....it was nice, especially to see the variation in the setlists from night to night.... i just went on there and there doesn't seem to be anything active like that anymore......and the Hip's main website, well enuff said about that one'93 Toronto

Holy crap, I haven't heard that in years. That was back in the pre-Internet days when the only way to hear the new songs early was to tune into the radio premier, which usually aired about a week before the official street date. I used to tape them off the radio just so I could drive around in my car listening to the new songs while waiting for the album to come out. I remember doing that for Fully Completely, Day for Night, Henhouse, and Phantom Power as well. By the time Music@Work was released in 2000, the Internet was in full force. A buddy of mine came across a leaked version online about a month before it came out and he was kind enough to burn me a copy. I felt so secretive (and kind of guilty) driving around with that album blaring out the window a month before street date. Ahh, good times."I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce.
