ANy Info on this performance and where it comes from? Seem like its from an official release/TV show because of the logo and fade out to commercial at the end. Its fantastic quality. Maybe this was a kick off for phantom power or something...?

It was called "Something On The Tragically Hip". It aired live on Muchmusic a few days before Phantom Power was released. If I remember correctly it was a charity concert to help raise money for children living with cancer.
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."

does anyone own any Hip on vinyl? was Live Between Us released on vinyl?
The only Hip album I have on vinyl is Up To Here. I'm always on the lookout for the others. I'm pretty sure Live Between Us was released on vinyl, but I've never seen one.
Here's Gord Downie sitting down for a full hour with Jian Ghomeshi on QTV in 2009 while promoting "We Are the Same". I remember hearing parts of it on CBC Radio 2, but this is the first time I've seen the full video footage. Some great insights from one of music's most interesting figures. The guy has so many awesome stories.

Yes I have Live Between Us on vinyl. I also have Up to Here, Road Apples and Day For Night on vinyl. I have been looking for Fully Completely, my holy grail, forever! Would love to find it one day!

I just saw a Dutch pressing of Fully Completely at a store called the Inner Sleeve in Calgary about 3 weeks back. She was asking $110 for it. Little steep for me but would love to own it someday on vinyl.

$110 is steep. But it is very rare. Was it new and mint? Maybe I will contact this store, thanks for the info.
I don't think it was sealed but looked to be in great shape. It was up on the wall so I didn't get to look at the vinyl but anything I've ever bought from the store has been in great shape. She's pretty high on her prices but you may be able to haggle a bit.
There was a sealed Live Between Us vinyl on ebay two months ago. The only Hip vinyl I've got is the 45 as mentioned, the first album and We are the same.

just checked the bay, and there's a few vinyl on there right now:
Road Apples (unsealed) has 3 days left and is at $113.
Up To Here (two copies) BIN for about $80
Self Titled (ep) is at $25 with 2 days left.
I think the ones I'd like the most on vinyl are Live Between Us and In Violet Light. or maybe Music At Work, just to hear that monster Tiger The Lion on vinyl.

Incredible show last night in Edmonton! A little too short maybe, but it was awesome nonetheless. I've seen this band so many times I've lost count, and I can easily say that this was one of the best Hip shows I've seen. Great energy from both the band and the crowd, and Gord was VERY animated and ranting all through the show. I didn't see it, but apparently there was quite a bit of drunken douchebaggery going on near the front of the stage with some idiots fighting and slamming into women and small kids, which pissed Gord off something fierce. A couple of times he explicitly told people to stop crowd surfing. Then he started singling out specific guys who were being assholes and totally berated them in front of 20,000 people. It was fantastic. He also had a great rant in the middle of Hundredth Meridian about him and Paul hitchhiking to Prince Edward Island with nothing but a bag of granola and $17. Great stuff!

Another one of Gord berating some douchebags in the crowd (and a killer version of Fully Completely). "It's not the music, man. You would do it at a Bieber show and you fuckin' know it!" Classic.

thanks DW!
seems like some of the good "old" Gord
is back "Paul I can't look!"
lmao!
but Gord still thinks he has to consume 100 percent if the crowds attention with rants and his tap dancing...!
the band is in killer form..
let the music do the talking once in a while...
ok keep the rants but enough of the tap dancing...
it's just not rock and roll as much as cabaret at this stage IMO ..
just my own rant I guess !

LOL. There is a reason the singer is called a "frontman". A lot of bands dont like to be in the spotlight, and an exuberant singer allows them to focus on the music.

Great song! Can't wait to hear the official version when the new album comes out.
My two cents regarding Gord's antics: I don't think it takes away from the music at all. It certainly didn't take anything away from the raw energy that was on display in Edmonton the other night. If anything, it only heightened it. Those guys still rock harder than most bands half their age, and that was definitely one of the best Hip shows I've seen in recent years. Gord can do no wrong in my opinion. He's like a crazed lunatic who's out on a day pass from the asylum, and you never know what he's gonna do. His weird spasmodic dancing has actually been a part of their live show since the beginning. In fact I distinctly remember him doing some bizarre form of tap dancing in '92 at the Max Bell Center in Calgary during an epic 10-minute version of "New Orleans is Sinking". Maybe it's because he's older, but these days he's just a bit more graceful at it, and he seems to do it more often. Also, his clever, unique, and hilarious use of the mic stand as a prop is incomparable. He seems to come up with a new way to use it at every show. I think it's great, and it gives their live show a wholly original dynamic that you don't get with any other rock band. The dude is the best frontman in the biz, hands down.

My review of the Burnaby show, (off the hip board)
alright, wow. so what a night.
The hip came out, Gord tied his shoes and we were off. I am always "meh" about Blow as the opener but damn it was awesome. Had to be in the 7 to 8 minute range, with the "He's a microphone and a microphone stand, IM A MAN! at the end. Grace, too got the tragically hip line, which was nice. Streets ahead was only alright for me as a new song, it was good, but not as good as Drip Drip Drip with the rain coming down. This song is incredible. The crowd was going NUTS for it, considering nobody has ever hear it before. It has the potential to be the single for sure, great highlight. Love to see the band still connecting with new music, it put a smile on my face. I was front row, and the barricades were reinforced mid show with rope because a lot of stress was being put on them with the likes of Fully Completely, Hundredth Meridian and Poets. I will say this: In the beginning, Gord was missing his cues a little, due to his antics. Example, he'd be doing something just out of reach of the mic, and start singing and have to quickly get to the mic. Also, he was definitely yelling more than singing in the start. But he smartened up. He was doing the usual hanky work. I must say he is an absolute MASTER of the Mic stand wobble with the feet now. I saw it fall at least once a show in 06, 07 and earlier, but the mic stand is his toy now, he is perfect with it. Didnt drop once. Fiddlers Green was a crowd favourite, the "Balloons all filled with rain" got a big cheer. Such a sad, sad song. Odd to see people crowd surfing to it. One girl in the middle in front, had to be pulled out, the gave her water, but she was messed up, couldnt stand, either wasted, dehyrdration or exhaustion or all of the above, it was a messed up scene, they took her to first aid. Rink was AWESOME, i was so hoping it would be the opener, but opening the encore was good enough. It was an absolute lighter fest for wheat kings. Music @ Work was great. High energy show, from the boys. We had a blast. The outdoor GA, was a great experience, crowd was awesome. I couldnt help but think of heksenketel while fully was on.
