Special thanks to the complete assholes next to me that didnt stop talking (and not about the show), during the whole thing. Why are people such assholes????? Seriously????
Otherwise, Ed didnt disappoint. Highlights for me- Immortality, Long Nights, Let my love open the door.
Shoot were you in my row? I had the same deal.
The biggest irritation besides the typical "Wooooooooooooo!" that would be shouted out in the middle of a great moment. Was how the venue sounded like a high school cafeteria during Glen's set. That was extremely disrespectful. The man put on a great set.

That's all I could hear. There were some cases between the "whoooooo", full conversations happening and dozens of people walking and trying to find their row, I could barely see or hear the show. We had one asshole yelling patriot every 5 minutes, another one who yelled "play something that doesn't suck" during the Uke songs and kept yelling play Jeremy. Another guy was so drunk that his friend had to carry him out after Glen's set and they didn't come back. Another guy was having a full argument with his girlfriend, yelling and everything and they left about 10 songs in. It was just an odd crowd overall - I think serving alcohol through basically the entire show doesn't help when people don't know when to cut themselves off.0 -
Amazing as always!!!Yellow Ledbetter is my least favorite song. Because as soon as you hear the first note you know it is time to say goodbye.0

Mix the nicest weather in Michigan so far this summer with a Tigers afternoon home game across the street from the show, and you get a hammered audience. The noise from the back was a distraction on the quieter songs, and people basically talked the whole way through Hansard's set--he's fucking fantastic and a major draw on his own, so that upset me a bit, especially from a PJ crowd that is usually so good to opening acts.
That said, EV surprised me with how solid his solo show is--his range on Needle, using the kick drum (he watching the Avett Bros. lately), and the pump organ piece were all fantastic, unexpected benefits. Only bummer is having to leave before it was over--EV was the first time my wife and I had gone out since our baby, Edie, was born, and the 'sitter texted that Edie was going mental. So I learned that there is one thing that can make me leave a PJ event.
Any word on if these shows will be offered as bootlegs? I'd love to hear the rest of the encore."And he still gives his love, he just gives it away."0 -
Actually if anyone has any great pictures of the marquee out from I'd appreciate it if you'd PM. I wouldn't mind receiving a few shots. I have a plan for them for my basement.E. Amazing show. truly amazing. and Ed was sick too, but as usual, he gave it his all and then some. Someone used the analogy of watching Picasso paint. Weird, I used the same analogy when I was talking about the show afterward.
Also, the person who mentioned the Sleepless Nights duet without the mics was right. That's missing from the setlist. It was one of the most tender moments ever. Too bad the chick to my left thought she was in on the gig too and was belting out the words. I had to shut her down. It's a small, intimate moment, people. Not a huge venue with the full band.oh Ed! what big vinyl you have!

Glen typically does a song without the mic at his Swell Season shows, too. Amazing to actually hear the musician unmediated by mics, amps, etc."And he still gives his love, he just gives it away."0

amazing first show... amazing.
Sleepless nights- raw, the purity. the reach. Its amazing how different it sounds... MotH, falling slowly, needle, far behind, immortality, heard just breathe plenty of times but never solo in a tiny theater- very powerful. Forever young....
I am without words. Glen is mind-blowing. Great opener!
Thank you Ed. Thank you for playing Detroit, thank you for an amazing first experience. Wish I could have seen hard sun... bet it was killer. I won't be putting anything negative here about my experience at the show- had nothing to do with Ed.
The pre-party was great, Congrats to Dirty Tom and help for putting together a great time!
Thanks again Eddie!0 -

As for the show, amazing. Brought tears of joy to this guy. I was praying for immortality and got it. The people around me were not all that bad. I have zero complaints about this show.
I donated a poster for the pre party and ended up winning a better one!! And I never win shit. Wish I was going to Chicago. Good times peeps.Just, not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said, I dont want it.
I just need it.

The "play something the doesn't suck" guy was two rows behind me, what an asshat! he also was yelling for crazy mary like 6 songs into Ed's set, the only good thing was.... I believe he was escorted out long before Ed decided to play Crazy Mary.... ahhhh Karma!
Overall my first EV solo show and I loved it! and the poster was the icing on the cake for me, I huge Wings fan, So now the hard decision is to frame and put it in my wing themed room or the rest of house that has other concert posters in it.0 -

I am so jealous of those who got to go to this show. Best set by far. Are you kidding me? And a Mike solo project in the works?!?!"If you're not confused, you're not paying attention."

Just want to add my .02....
First solo show for me. Crowd was both better and worse then i thought it would be, going off all the reviews of other crowds for the Ed shows. Overall, i expected more random yelling, tho there was a guy couple rows back from me who screamed "Thumbing My Way!!!!" pretty constantly between songs. Also the guy directly behind me had the world's loudest whistle, definitely hurt my ears, but he kept it for appropriate times at least. Good people around me. There were plenty of drunken WOOOOO's to be heard throughout tho, and i wish everyone could have reigned it in during Sleepless Nights, when Ed and Glen turned the mics off. Could have been a very special moment. Instead, Glen gave Ed a post song pat on the arm, sort of like "Ah well, mate, you tried..."
The music was great. Ed definitely has his voice in top form. I didn't really think about til i got home, but he played almost none of the songs i really wanted to hear (long Road, Betterman lullaby which i have no idea how that sounds, Parting Ways) but was still blown away by Long Nights, Forever Young, Crazy Mary, and was surprised and most excited by Let My Love...I think they should dust off the whole band version soon...
the Arc thing, he started, didn't get a good pass on the first loop...I think he was going to try again, but the crowd really started yelling and clapping, took him right out. Guy near me yelled out twice at the top of his lungs "Did you fuck it up!!??" Horrible.
It was a great show overall, so glad i was there. Sometimes tho, i think this band gets some fans that just don't get it at all. My brother, who sat with me, echoed this sentiment to me also. I know people want to dance and scream along, and get very drunk, but why not show some respect to the guy who makes all this possible? Clapping and singing along and trying to raise the energy level is awesome, but if you spend 3/4 of the time screaming/taking phone pics/talking loudly with your friend, you probably missed the chance to truly be a part of the moment. Was just odd to see the 2 different kinds of PJ fans: the inebriated post-frat crowd, and the ones who were living inside the music.
Thx, cheers, thanks 10C for great seats. Love.
