Songs you consider perfect, list some

I'm encouraged that "Sweet Child O' Mine" is on this list. I'm not a huge G'nR fan these days, but I heard it a couple days ago and man, that song completely holds up. It's an epic for the 80s in the same way Zep and the Who had epic songs in the 60s/70s.
But I'm discouraged that Def Leppard's "Love Bites" is here. I loved DL in that era, but it's hard to listen to some of that stuff now.
I would put about half of Jane's Addiction's early stuff on this list. "Three Days" is a ridiculous song, just a masterpiece of songwriting and performance.
Off the top of my head:
Prince - Let's Go Crazy
Metallica - One
Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt
Black Sabbath - War Pigs
Green Day - Jesus of SuburbiaIs it too much to ask for a full-blown Temple of the Dog set? Probably.0 -
Fun thread!
Random thoughts:
Paranoid Android, Radiohead
Better Be Home Soon, Crowded House
House is not a home, Luther Vandross
Kashmir, Led Zeppelin
Night and Day, Ella Fitzgerald
Many more I'll come up with the second I hit submit

It's a song that I loved the second I heard it in high school, and it's STILL good. It really captures the feel of music at that time too, adding to its perfection

There was a girl in my class who was really into the Smiths back then - used to wear glasses and a 'Meat is Murder' T-shirt under her school blouse. This was around '85, and we were about 13 years old. She was a bit of a loner, really intelligent, and kind of used to get picked on. I didn't really know the Smiths much back then, I got her to play me some one time and I just thought 'How fucking miserable!'.
I didn't start to appreciate the Smiths until I was in my twenties, but I play them as much as I do any artist today - always love them! I was listening to Meat is Murder the other day, and thinking about this poor girl - how she was listening to all this Morrissey at the time.....
Anyway - they are remarkable songs! I think of Morrissey as the quintessential English lyricist. He's probably in my top 4 lyricists, along with Dylan, Vedder, and Roger Waters on a good day.Cancel my subscription to the Ressurection
