Did Ten really have a massive musical impact at the time? Sure, it sold a shit load of copies but so do Nickelback. I love Ten, but I wouldn't call it a revolutionary album.

and weezer's album was? cmon, this is pretentious hipster nonsense. i'm not a huge fan of ten, but to not have a single pearl jam album in the top 100? hell, they could have gone with vitalogy or no code and given some sanctimonious sermon about how a huge band could still do their own thing. 2 bjork albums in the top 20? you're kidding right? i have a pretty good number of hipster friends and i STILL dont know anyone that even owns a single bjork album. the list is laughable. it's not just the lack of pearl jam, it's the lack of a number of bands doing incredible, innovative work in the 90s and the inclusion of a bunch of incredibly lame novelty acts just to show they listen to more cd's than you.
    and like that... he's gone.

    Wow.

These guys are so full of shit...their tongues are brown.

Although these albums are addmittedly good, more than a few of these have no place on this list and WE ALL KNOW IT!!!

This obviously is just another hack article written by bunch Inde-hipsters with a hard on for their own self image.

Omitting the obvious from this list is kind of like making a list of
"The 100 Most Important Events of The 20th Century" and ignoring WWII.

Don't pay these clowns any mind
They obviously hate themselves and all their readers.

Any magazine that doesnt include Ten, Vs, Achtung Baby, Definately Maybe and Blood Sugar Sex Magic is a 90's top 100 is worthless.

This is one of the worst lists I've ever seen. SO many albums that don't belong here.
    Chicago 2000 : Chicago 2003 : Chicago 2006 : Summerfest 2006 : Lollapalooza 2007 : Chicago 2009 : Noblesville (Indy) 2010 : PJ20 (East Troy) 2011 : Wrigley Field 2013 : Milwaukee (Yield) 2014 : Wrigley Field 2016

The word 'random' springs to mind. Sure there was stuff on there that really deserved to be there but about half of it was pretty obscure. It was exactly the sort of list you would expect from people who put OK Computer at number one. Ponces.

The only two redeeming factors on that list are Flaming Lips Soft Bulletin at #3 and Modest Mouse being on the list.

I'm not gonna pretend that I know of every indie band that released an album in the 90's...but com'on...any top 100 list of the 90's...an era that I listened to everything under the sun...and I've only heard of 80% of these bands is just ridiculous!

This is a list for the music elitist. The list should be called...a nerds list of the top 100 albums of the 90's.

"Oh look how cool I am...I can make a list without the most "popular" bands/hip hop artist of the 90's."

Fuck you Pitchfuck! How dare you pretend what really happened in the 90's didn't happen...why can't you just speak the truth?

    ZERO CREDABILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I know people like that!

I think people like that are the ones wearing the tshirts with the slogan in my signature ;)

The 90's covered my entire teenage years, and while I wasn't into all the "coolest" music during that time, I'd say that list doesn't come close to representing the "best of" that period.....

No Pearl Jam, No Guns N' Roses, no Nine Inch Nails, etc...though I do like the two Weezer albums on the list, the Blue album might be a little too high. (Then again...maybe not, compared to the other entries on that list)

guns n roses' use your illusion doesn't deserve to be on the list (both of them). they were pretty weak. no pearl jam or nine inch nails is heartbreaking, but im happy that radiohead and weezer were on there.

I think their intro says it all..... they didn't even inlcude PJ in the list of groups that didn't make it. They are basically giving them a big FU. It's sad but it only advertises their intentions even more and evaporates any notion of objectivity. Don't waste any energy on them.

    What a load of shit.

The 5 mins I just spent looking at that, i'm never gonna get back! :(
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

If you go and read this sites review of Lollapalooza 07, it's seems the reviewer
had a good time during the PJ show but is almost ashamed to admit it. He also is judging them on a festival show where they pretty much blazed through all their greatest hits as opposed to what a normal PJ show is like. Anyway it's worth a look because thats the feeling I got.

I own 52 of those albums. There is some really good music on there.

they get their rocks off not listing bands like pearl jam.

It is obvious they have an agenda. They sprinkle in some hip hop because it is cool to them to like that and throw in all the indie/college radio albums.

I was surprised smashing pumpkins got on the list.

Not one mention of metal that i saw either.

Wow this list is ridiculous. I know pitchfork is about being cool and hip and all that but i think they have become so involved in their own "indie hipness" that they have completely forgot reality. I think its great that they shout out Wu-Tang and and Outkast and all that but come on. Weezer, Radiohead, and Nirvana are on the list and for good reason...but some of this is just stupid.

    No Pearl Jam
    No Alice in Chains
    No Soundgarden
    No Temple of the Dog
    No Mudhoney
    No Janes Addiction
    No STP
    No U2
    No Oasis

There is no fucking way that My Bloody Valentine, Pavement, and Neutral Milk Hotel have been more influential and put out consistently good albums like any of these bands. Just because these indie albums sold 40,000 copies it makes them great. Sorry that 13 million people love pearl jam. I really think Pitchfork does this just to piss people off

Yes. Fuck you! Pavement are cool and I'd say that only AIC and Pearl Jam (from the list you made) have made songs that are aesthetically appealing in the way pavement are. Oasis and U2 are about the worst shit ever existed and it does not matter that they have influenced many commercial rock bands. Those predecessors suck as well! (wouldn't be surprised if you hailed Nickleback though)

The replies in this thread is very typical for narrow-minded hardcore-fans! Do you listen to anything that isn't associated with ed-fucking-vedder? I'm so ashamed of you! And Massive Attack derserves to be on any top 90-list!

I think the point is that if Aphex Fucking Twin is on the list, maybe pearl jam should be there too.

    I mean really,
Richard D James is possibly to techno what Ten was to "Grunge", that is to say, oversold, overhyped, overblown.

    Come on.

You have to admit this list is pretty snotty.
And at least as narrow-minded in its "hipness" as PJ fans are in their voracity for all things PJ.

I know it has already been pointed out that RATM didn't make the list. How in the hell is that possible??? Also, in addition to the other bands that should have made the list...how about the Toadies and Silverchair????

    I don't know man, i just don't know.

I'm still wondering why Dubtribe Sound System isn't on the list, if Aphex gets not one but TWO nods.
And one for "Selected Ambient Works" ???
You already put The Orb at 100.
You really need MORE pointless background noise?
    Seriously?
    I had that album.
    And i mean SERIOUSLY.

This song alone should have put Dubtribe on there:
    Mother Earth.

Not to mention their immensely influential live performances, all the love they radiated, and the parties they spawned.

If these retards had actually lived in the 90's instead of just having masturbated about them in their dormroom (like someone else said), they might know some of what the people on this thread are talking about.

As it is, it looks like they just picked this and that from this and that category to make it seem like they know what is what.
