There is no reason for anyone to compare their level of fandom against others.

    I couldn't agree more.

This was an interesting idea (and an interesting thread) though.

Yeah I never meant for this to be a comparing fandom thread. I just thought that with all the software that's available they could just reassign new numbers since a lot of people have dropped out. It's just obviousl that they never want to make it known how many actual members there are which is fine.

Just for the sake of argument, which of these is the biggest fan:

Rich jet-setter who has flown to 85 shows worldwide, and freely buys rarities on Ebay

Middle class guy who arranges vacations around the band so that his entire family can share the PJ vibe

A fella in Serbia who has never seen the band live, but listens to burned cds to help him forget about recent wars

Woman who cries at PJ concerts because she gets so moved by their music

A person who doesn't buy any fancy box sets, but saves all of his money so that one day he may be able to afford a trip to see the band.

Someone who only listens to Ten, but does so every morning on the drive to work.

Someone who knows every useless fact about the band, but only because he has a memory like an elephant.

Answer...there is no way to really judge, and who really even cares. If you enjoy the band, just get on with it!

Honestly there is no PJ's biggest fan. If you are a fan you are a fan. Everyone. Those who were members since 1991, the people who joined in 1998 and the young teenagers who may have heard them for the first time yesterday and joined the fan club today.

So you don't spend your life trying to improve your situation, working hard, saving money, trying to constantly make life better for you and your family? How else could you possibly live your life?!?!?! What do you do, just say "fuck it" and let the government take care of you?

Sorry about not keeping up with a conversation I started with you... busy working the same job I have enjoyed for the past 10 years and giving the rest of my time to my kids. Some folk are happy with what they've got. I could go on but this forum has enough personal conversations floating round to need another going on here.

Nothing in Pearl Jam's politics would ever suggest they would embrace a money talks approach to fanclub seating. I was certainly disappointed to see tiered ticket prices on the last Australian/NZ tour but it was understandable considering the venues. Has this band reached the Stage of No Return (ie U2, Stones, etc) and we'll only see large stadiums from now on? You can't please 30,000+ concert goers with equal ticket prices but we can expect our fanclub dues to remain equal no matter who you are or what you've bought.

Not every 10C member uses their membership to buy tickets to every show. I've attended a few shows using spares from other members. And what if I buy all of my merch in person at the shows, and not thru the website?

It's an idea; I've thrown out lots of ideas. That's how you come up with a concept that's better than the existing process. But thanks for pointing out the obvious!
But really man.....WHY DOES ANYONE HAVE TO PROVE ANYTHING TO YOU? I personally don't give a fuck if you get worse seats than me, nor whether you're a bigger or more loyal fan than me....if you could buy your way past me, whether thru a tiered due system or othewise, the 10C would be no different than the upcharging ticket companies, or bands that gouge their fans for 'platinum' memberships and the like...purchasing power does not equate to loyalty...whether it's used on tickets, memberships, CD's, or merch..! What a sad view of the world...
What thread are you reading?!?! When did I ever say that anyone had to prove anyone to me? So rather than get all high and mighty on me, why not actually try to read and comprehend before you post? In fact I constantly argue that there is no measure of how big of a fan someone is, including seniority.

Yes, it’s a sad view of the world that someone should be able to achieve something better (seats in this case) because they work hard and make a decent living. I like your view better where some people get more than others arbitrarily.
    Really?
Let's review what you've done in this thread.
    - Suggested a reward/points program for the 10C
    - Suggested that paying more money for your membership should get you better seats than those who pay less
    - Referenced ROI, value-added products, and the political spectrum as they apply to a fanclub ( )
    - Challenged the loyalty of people who have been following the band for nearly 20 years
    - Got kinda douchey with the OP.

And you are going to judge who should sit where, and how the 10C should move forward with their business model? The points above make it clear to me that it is YOU who doesn't understand what this community is all about.....the 10C has been doing a good job (sometimes great) of taking care of us all for a long time...but hey, you know better...

I’m not even going to give this ignorant rant the time of day, since your reply is an emotional response that is obviously not based on anything I actually posted.
Actually, this is an interesting thread. If you don't agree or like it, feel free to move on without being a dingle-berry... :D

This thread is only interesting because seniority gets you better seats. So the OP was flawed in stating that those of us discussing tickets were "off topic". Thus your idea that I somehow don't like this thread and that I have been off topic is flawed. The OP wanted to infringe on our right to free speech by steering the topic in the direction he wanted it to go. I'm sorry but we are all allowed to discuss whatever we want, regardless of what you or the OP want. And if you don't like that, move on and start another thread!
On topic - I think this would be a cool idea, for curiosity's sake, if nothing else.
And why would it be cool to know how many people were in the club and where you stood? Any reason other than 10C tickets? Just being “curious” is not an acceptable answer, you’d have to address why you were curious. If you remove tickets from the mix, nobody cares what their number is, and this thread never gets started. So I’ll say it again, talking about ticketing in relationship to 10C numbers is not off topic.

Ok, fair enough. You came up with an idea, I gave you a critical opinion of said idea. That’s part of the process of improvement, too. But thanks for explaining the obvious!

I’ve read your posts in this thread twice now, once when I responded originally, and again now to figure out if I had misinterpreted you somehow. Honestly, the comprehension isn’t coming easily; you contradict yourself repeatedly. You say that long-time 10C members are beneficiaries of circumstance, then turn around and suggest better seats as a reward program for money spent on the band. What you, and people with your worldview, seem to miss entirely, is that financial situation is NOT directly proportionate to hard work and trying to ‘better yourself’ or ‘improve your situation’….financially wealthy people are often (I’d venture to say usually) beneficiaries of circumstance, as you say….just as financially struggling people are often victims of circumstance. On top of that (as was already pointed out), not everyone chooses career paths that allow them the extra cash to compete with your ‘decent living’, this doesn’t make them any less deserving of ticket privileges, nor does it mean you've worked any harder than them. I find it laughable that you think it a reasonable suggestion to bring some kind of hardcore Darwinian social order into the 10C.

By the way – there is nothing arbitrary about the 10C ticket system. Seniority is not arbitrary.

It was not an emotional response – I was addressing things you actually DID post. If you want to point out which items you’re denying, I can show you which posts I’ve referenced.

I first joined 10C in mid 1993, about a month or two before VS came out. I let my membership lapse...twice. First time it was 35XXX, second time was 203XXX. Now it's in the 400XXX's. There are logical reasons for me not being able to pay my yearly dues. But anyway, I'm just happy to get in the venue to see them. Most often, I'm at least on the floor, and I'm happy. Maybe one of these days, I'll win the 10C lottery and get first row. :)

I asked Santos if the paid members area I referred to in my original post is accurate and he said it isn't even close to being right.

I wonder why it is even there.

Joined date only refers to the date you joined the forum. It has nothing to do with your 10C membership begin date.

+1 minus the not knowing the forums existed. I just tried to avoid reading and posting but eventually succumbed to the hysteria that is The Porch. :D

Well said. I too let my membership lapse after joining in 93 due to financial reasons, and, while I kicked myself when it came time to rejoin and get a new, higher number, I'm happy to just be at the shows.ditto on the lottery comment, maybe someday...

It can be, depending on when you joined/when they merged the board etc.

For example, my date is not the same. When they merged the board/membership info I ended up with two accounts since I'd used different email addresses. One of those accounts had my 10C start date and one is the one you see today (maybe the data I joined the "new" board?).
