  • BeerBaron, DFH is just the only brew I'm a fan of and familiar with that has done a collaborative beer inspired by or in tribute to an album or musician. Besides Bitches Brew they also have Johnny Cask 75 minute IPA and a Johnny Rawten Pilsner.

I'm not certain all microw brews are into punk music but these guys are.

Personally, I don't think, DFH is the right brewery for this project if it were to happen. There is absolutely no connection there. I don't think PJ has ever played in the state of Delaware and the band is from the other side of the country.

If a big craft brewery is going to get behind this project it should be a west coast brewery. Someone already mentioned Stone, which would be cool not only because of the name but they are a San Diego brewery and the band has some great connections there. The biggest Seattle brewery is probably Elysian (I don't really count Red Hook) and they may be too small for the project, but maybe that could work. Could also go down to Portland and find one of the many great breweries there like Deschutes or Hair of The Dog.

The only part about the DFH thing that makes sense to me for a PJ20 beer is the opportunity to make an episode of the Brewmasters show featuring the PJ beer and the PJ20 festival, which could be mutually beneficial. Then again, with all of they hype that DHF has received from the Brewmasters series already, they may be content. Their beers are flyign off the shelves in most markets and they can't keep up with the demand right now.

However, the show is "in the air" for another season, not to mention the last episode (episode 6) which has no current air date.

Word is that they may continue the series but they're not sure whether to stay with DFH or feature another brewery even though the main attraction of the show is sending Sam Calagione abroad to create these diverse beers through studies of the local area.
I think the show should come to the Pacific Northwest, somewhere in OR or WA for a season and leave DFH behind.

DFH is way over priced for beer that tastes like wine...

Pacific NW has TONS of breweries, countless craft/mirco brews.

    All signs point to Gorge...
  • It's not about the location. It's about the music, the beer, and the artists appreciation and respect for the other's craft.

Alright, I'm throwing all in on this one:

Figure out a way to blend a black IPA, amber, and pilsner. Call it "Black, Red, Yellow". BOOM, marketing. Now someone who knows what they're doing make it drinkable.

Then again, if Stone, DFH, and Victory could come up with a drinkable pizza inspired beer, I suppose anything's posible. ;)

It is about those things, and it is also about location and supporting our local community. We have everything you want in a brewery, so much closer to the band's headquarters.

Unless he is talking about someting like Fort, I have no clue what he is talking about.

Although DFH is not in my top 5 or even top 10 breweries, they make some solid beer, including 60 minute, 90 minute, Punkin, Squall and Burton Baton - none of which taste like wine.

I'm a fan of just about any brown ale, but Ellies is more than solid in my book. Only had bottle/draught though. I work for a distributor in Ma and we carry Avery, but only in bottles and kegs. We also carry 21st Amendment which only comes in cans and kegs as far as I know, but I've been less than impressed by anything I've tried from them.

In regards to the Dogfish tasting like wine, the only thing I can think he may be talking about is the Red & White, which has "red wine of beers" printed on the case.
  • Anyone else up for emailing DFH.

Not sure about tasting like wine... Just that red & white.

They're not a big company. I'm sure if you call them, you would be able to get in contact with someone who can make this happen.
  • Red & White maybe.

They aren't just going to do this because people like us call or e-mail them. The way to get this done is what Guitarhero27 is doing - get in touch with the 10C first to see if they are interested in the idea.

Thanks Marcus. Yes. Evensteven - I like your approach and desire, however it's just not as simple as emailing the brewery and telling them it's a good idea to do this.

    Many factors are involved.

You'll need approval from PJ's camp first and foremost. I've sent them a letter and am awaiting a response.
Location of the event is LEGALLY important as the brewery MUST be legal/registered/approved in the state that the event is in.

Existing contracts within the venue site. If it's a Budweiser or Miller sponsored venue...good luck getting any OTHER beer in there.

Not to mention the time/cost-analysis restraints and whatnot.

I wish it was as easy as emailing a brewery....but that will do absolutely nothing, it's got to start at the top for so many reasons. I've started at the top - let's hope for the best.
