Best idea yet for the PJ Fest. :D

    Hell yeah it is.

Just imagine partying preshow outside the venue at the summerfest, toasting with you PJ inspired beer...
    Fine idea indeed.

Let's make it happen. I emailed Dogfish Head. I'll write a letter later this week.

Ames Bros. can do the bottle label.

Sweetwater IPA is awesome, have a buddy from the ATL that brought a 6er back to Houston. They must go natl distribution. RE. the DFH idea, would like it too and Sam is definitely cutting edge to attempt it. if not DFH, i wonder if the Stone Brewing guys would be up for it...

Ummm.... HELL YEAH THAT WOULD BE SWEET! Seeing how my beer(s) of choice are Dogfish Head, Sweetwater, and Terrapin. It may be too much of a Southern thing for PJ though... They obviously don't seem to like us very much.... **cough**cough** 2003????

Yeah, except I can;t stand the main guy on that show. He seems to be quite a tool.

And, I think it should be a local Pacific Northwest region brewery that makes the Pearl Jam beer. It is only right.

if NW craft brewer, rogue or deschutes would fit the bill. not a huge fan of rogue, price to quality ratio not high enough for me.

Got lucky this year. Was in central PA for work last week right when Hopslam hit the market in Ohio. I took a 90 minute detour on my drive back home and grabbed a case. I had never had it this fresh before and it is ridiculously good. Missed out on the fresh batch of Nugget Nectar by a couple of days though, but those are the breaks.

Next time you are in central PA, check out the Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport. I highly recommend it.

guys i'll be in contact with PJ's PR firm specifically to make this idea happen. As I said I'm a home-brewer. There are a lot of legalities for this to actually happen. For instance - Dogfish Head cannot just make a beer and serve it at this PJ anniversary party - they have to be registered within the state for distribution, federal registration, etc.

I will follow up with any other details if and when I receive any.

Dude, do you work for Dogfish Head?

Haha, I wish. They are a major influence on me. (Geez, it's like talking about playing guitar and my influences.) I went there this past June for my birthday (Milton brewery and the brewpub in rehoboth beach...yes...before the discovery channel show) and the thing that I really love about them is that they continually push the envelope and re-define what beer could be. All of the brewpubs where I live (NJ) just kinda mosey around making just generic beer and very plain and simple. I understand it is more cost effective, and it is a benefit of drinking a fresher form of the mass-produced beers you can find on the market, but, how much of the same can you possibly have?

My favorite breweries are (in no particular order)

Bells, Mikkeller, Dogfish Head, Unibroue, Allagash, St Bernardus, Rochefort, St Fuillen, Cigar City, 3 Floyds and I know I'm missing a ton.

I'm not saying DFH should just make a PJ beer, I'd like the two camps to collaborate or atleast DFH contact PJ to do a tribute/inspired by brew.

I just think it would be rad.

Personally, I don't think, DFH is the right brewery for this project if it were to happen. There is absolutely no connection there. I don't think PJ has ever played in the state of Delaware and the band is from the other side of the country.

If a big craft brewery is going to get behind this project it should be a west coast brewery. Someone already mentioned Stone, which would be cool not only because of the name but they are a San Diego brewery and the band has some great connections there. The biggest Seattle brewery is probably Elysian (I don't really count Red Hook) and they may be too small for the project, but maybe that could work. Could also go down to Portland and find one of the many great breweries there like Deschutes or Hair of The Dog.

The only part about the DFH thing that makes sense to me for a PJ20 beer is the opportunity to make an episode of the Brewmasters show featuring the PJ beer and the PJ20 festival, which could be mutually beneficial. Then again, with all of they hype that DHF has received from the Brewmasters series already, they may be content. Their beers are flyign off the shelves in most markets and they can't keep up with the demand right now.

However, the show is "in the air" for another season, not to mention the last episode (episode 6) which has no current air date.

Word is that they may continue the series but they're not sure whether to stay with DFH or feature another brewery even though the main attraction of the show is sending Sam Calagione abroad to create these diverse beers through studies of the local area.

That can be done with any brewery though. I mean no disrespect to DFH, but the Brewmasters Series make it sound like they are the only brewery experimenting with different ingredients and/or different concepts in their breweing process. I would personally love to see the series feature different breweries. For example, a show focuing on the Goose Island BCS series, showing the viewers the process of barrel aging and the ingredients that go in to those beers.

the idea is that these are two mediums of art that can respect each other and collaborate. What does PJ have in common Volcom? What does Wes C. Addle have in common with Gary Heffern?
    those collaborations happened.

Here's what PJ and DFH may have in common:

    - do things differently, push the envelope
    - love for music, specifically punk
    - a home grown business that has turned into somethin much larger
    - a large loyal fanbase
    - same ideals about conservation and how to operate a sustainable environmentally friendly business
    - driving old trucks
    - beer

Why not? I think it's more important that the artists (the musicians and the beer makers) have a respect for each others craft rather than it being essential that they are from the same part of the US.

Those are some very interesting points. You may be changing my opinion on this one :) That said, I still say that if you can find someone like DFH who is also from the west coast, it is a more natural fit to colloborate with PJ.

The 7 things that you mentioned above are common to almost every craft brewery in the country.
