rolling stone said david bowie handed out their album to all of his friends.

and bruce is a big fan of their work...wayne coyne from the flaming lips said they're assholes when they toured with them...no offense to you at all, i just think that they still immitate a little more than emulate and they're better than what they've put out. Vocally i think that he's kinda of annoying SOMETIMES and sounds like he's tryin to sound like bowie...i think they're talented musicians but get a little too much credit for what they've done so far.

Two years ago, Win Butler and Bruce appeared together on the cover of Spin. How cool is that?? Bruce invited him and his wife onstage in Canada to play "Keep The Car Running", E Street Band style. I believe that bootleg video is still circulating around.

Saw them play a small show literally the week before they became huge. I saw half of one live track on the TV beforehand - to me it seemed a mixture of Einsturzende Nuebuten and A Silver Mt Zion - I was hooked straight away.

2nd time I saw them was at the MEN in Manchester to 20,000 people!

i caught them a few months after funeral came out in a club that holds 800 people and then for neon bible in a theatre with 4,000 people. Their fan base grew pretty quick :)

What bothers me is i almost went and saw them right when funeral came out but i had not heard the album yet. They played at a tiny place that holds like 300 people tops. :( epic mistake missing that one

  • i had downloaded their funeral album a while back and also wasnt into them. then i think on new years eve last year i was sicker than a dog laying on the couch and they were playing the ACL show on pbs. and between the robotussin and the music i was in heaven for that hour :D needless to say ive gotten all the other albums since and think theyre amazing.
  • they are a band like the dead who must be experienced live to fully get them. ive seen them twice, once in 2007 and the other time in september and they just put on a show that is second to none. ive never seen fans so into a band and the songs. there is nothing that rivals screaming the words to Wake up with not just the super fans, but with the whole stadium. 2 of the most cathartic experiences of my life.

Bring on the flames......but I find them boring as shit.
  • I find them boring as well and I've tried to get into them. They have way too many band members and hitting your helmet covered head is not an instrument. Another band who would be nothing without Pitchfork overfluffing them. Everything has gone to their heads.

These last few posts beautifully exemplify what a travesty this board has become. This used to be a place I could come to find at least some intelligent, thoughtful commentary on music and to discover new bands. No longer. Too many band members? Seriously? A band who is madly in love with what it is doing and crowds who feel the same way, so much so that they hum the melody to Rebellion during the entire encore break, boring? Just wow.
It makes much more sense to live in the present tense.

They just said they think they're boring as shit to them; that's why they don't like 'em, no biggie. I bet you the crowd at the nickelback concerts go apeshit during the encore, that doesn't mean they should like their music. And again, just because a band appreciates their fans doesn't mean that you can't find their music boring. Dave Matthews appreciates his fans, i still think his music is boring as shit. Win's voice can be annoying and his wife's voice on lead parts is bad too imo. Don't think they're terrible, just don't deserve all the praise they're getting.

they are getting alot more than praise friend. They were in most cases in the top 2 of nearly every single top albums of the decade list last year at this time.

I find their music boring as in the fact that it does not excite me. I am not knocking their ability or enthusiasm for what they are doing........it just doesn't get me going. A lot of bands have great fan bases, but it doesn't automatically mean that what they are doing on stage is excellent.....Obviously a lot of people dig what they are doing.

I find Dave Matthews Band boring to watch/listen to as well......even though I recognize there is a lot of talent in that band.....

But as far as Arcade Fire goes, I don't really identify with their lyrics, vocals, or stage presence......

That's praise. Nothing more, nothing less.

Who cares what lists they made?
