That's very cool, although I don't think Ed (or Chris) will win this

Really? Have you heard the lyrics to Guaranteed? I just had to go have a listen since everyone is talking about it and once again they make me melt :D

Editing to say the song is actually giving me chills listening to it right now. But it is only 32 degrees outside so maybe that is why :P

does Ed want a grammy? I'm always curious about who votes for the winner..rock fans? pop fans? a panel of boring judges in suits?

    Thats what I was thinking.
Cause Guaranteed lyrics are perfect imo.
And the music...everything. When I first got the cd, I listened
to the whole album reading the lyrics, but Guaranteed
    I was blown away!

    http://www.grammy.com/GRAMMY_Awards/Voting/

The process begins with members and record companies submitting entries, which are then screened for eligibility and category placement. The Academy's voting members, all involved in the creative and technical processes of recording, then participate in (1) the nominating process that determines the five finalists in each category; and (2) the final voting process which determines the GRAMMY winners.

    Submission
Recording Academy members and record companies enter recordings and music videos released during the eligibility year which they consider worthy of recognition in the GRAMMY Awards process.

    Screening
Reviewing sessions by more than 150 experts in various fields are held to ensure that entered recordings meet specific qualifications and have been placed in appropriate fields such as Rock, R&B, Jazz, Country, Gospel, New Age, Rap, Classical and Latin, among others. The purpose of screenings is not to make artistic or technical judgments about the recordings, but rather to make sure that each entry is eligible and placed in its proper category.

    Nominating
First-round ballots with lists of eligible recordings in all fields, except those voted on by special nominating committees, are sent to voting members who return their ballots to the independent accounting firm of Deloitte for tabulation. To help ensure the quality of the voting, members are directed to vote only in their fields of expertise; they may nominate in the four general categories (Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist) and in no more than nine out of 31 fields on their ballots.

    Special Nominating
Committees In craft and other specialized categories, final nominations are determined by national nomination review committees comprised of voting members from all of The Academy's Chapter cities.

    Final Voting
Lists of the finalists are sent to voting members with their second round ballots. The finalists determined by the special nominating committees are also included on these lists. In this final round, Recording Academy members may vote in the four general categories and in no more than eight of the 31 fields. Ballots again are tabulated in secrecy by the independent accounting firm, Deloitte.

    Results
Results of members' voting are not known until the GRAMMY Awards presentation ceremony when names of the winners are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes. GRAMMY Award winners are revealed during the GRAMMY Awards telecast.

They guy obviously wants to sell records... awards and shows sell more records. It is not excatly rocket science...

How does wanting to sell records, relate to him touring or not, because of his potential win?

Selling records and winning awards are not 100% completely related to each other

I'm not a rocket science engineer so maybe I'm missing the point of your initial post....but, I'll move on for now...

Well for good for Ed! Guaranteed certainly deserves it & I hope this is just a precursor to a GG & Oscar nom.

As for the Grammys...ugh. There's a reason they're the least respected of the major award shows. Foo Fighters? Seriously? They're not bad by any means but could they be anymore mediocre?

And the Grammy goes to... 'Love You I Do' - Dreamgirls)
Siedah Garrett & Henry Krieger, songwriters Jennifer Hudson performer!!!
    ...
    Why?
My guess... the Grammy people want to hear a short speech about how God and Jesus actually had some say in who the winner is... and avoid a possible speech about how much bullshit the whole awards to say whose art is better than others is.
    ...
Should Ed actually go to the Grammys?
Hell yes. Take his mom his girlfriend and his daughter to the show. it's not everyday they get to dress all up in fancy clothes and walk down a red carpet. And maybe Ed's mom wants to meet Jennifer Lopez or Beyonce.
    Plus... free food and booze.

All I want to say is well done Ed for the nomination and the very best of luck. Its a amazing album and Guaranteed is a cracking song. I'm also glad its getting the recognition it deserves. However I will be more pleased when Ed hooks up with boys and planet Pearl Jam again, after his well earned break of course.
"First of all, there’s the palpable camaraderie and good feeling you get from the entire band as they smile and nod at each other, and huddle together in various formations throughout the show --- They look like they really like each other. They look stoked!"

Here's the thing... this isn't the Oscars. There will definitely be no performance and the award itself isn't even given out on the air, so Ed has no reason to be there, much less need to worry about a speech.

I certainly hope he wins, but it won't really add to the exposure he's already received for it because most people don't pay attention to the "In awards handed out earlier ..." segments that they run going to commercials.

    Thats just great!

Cornell's song is good, huge fan base for the movie.
Eddies song is "even gooder", tiny fan base for the movie
Falling Slowly is a great song, great movie, teenie tiny fan base

Gonna be interesting to see how the academy votes (it is the academy/grammy dudes right, not popularity and sales?)

It's strange, most of the Springsteen fans are in an uproar that "Magic" didn't get a nomination for "Album of the Year." I guess four nominations - including Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song - just isn't good enough...
