Eddie Nominated for a Grammy!!

  • Brilliant album...Grammy's don't mean shit...I mean really, they constantly nominate the same album for multiple years. It's all about the highest commerical potential. Ed is not a commodity. In that light, Dreamgirls has a higher potential to win, or even Bond. I don't even know what is on that Dreamgirls soundtrack. I did see the Bond flick and the soundtrack was forgetable.

See if he shows up at the ceremony. Considering how he has been "media-friendly" lately, he just might!

Maybe if Sean asked him to go...

i don't think he'll win considering who he's up against...not that the other songs are better, but they're just better options for the grammys.

if he does win, i'd like to see him be gracious...maybe even apologize for being a dong on '96.
    sorry...just how i feel.

The process begins with members and record companies submitting entries, which are then screened for eligibility and category placement. The Academy's voting members, all involved in the creative and technical processes of recording, then participate in (1) the nominating process that determines the five finalists in each category; and (2) the final voting process which determines the GRAMMY winners.

    Submission
Recording Academy members and record companies enter recordings and music videos released during the eligibility year which they consider worthy of recognition in the GRAMMY Awards process.

    Screening
Reviewing sessions by more than 150 experts in various fields are held to ensure that entered recordings meet specific qualifications and have been placed in appropriate fields such as Rock, R&B, Jazz, Country, Gospel, New Age, Rap, Classical and Latin, among others. The purpose of screenings is not to make artistic or technical judgments about the recordings, but rather to make sure that each entry is eligible and placed in its proper category.

    Nominating
First-round ballots with lists of eligible recordings in all fields, except those voted on by special nominating committees, are sent to voting members who return their ballots to the independent accounting firm of Deloitte for tabulation. To help ensure the quality of the voting, members are directed to vote only in their fields of expertise; they may nominate in the four general categories (Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist) and in no more than nine out of 31 fields on their ballots.

    Special Nominating
Committees In craft and other specialized categories, final nominations are determined by national nomination review committees comprised of voting members from all of The Academy's Chapter cities.

    Final Voting
Lists of the finalists are sent to voting members with their second round ballots. The finalists determined by the special nominating committees are also included on these lists. In this final round, Recording Academy members may vote in the four general categories and in no more than eight of the 31 fields. Ballots again are tabulated in secrecy by the independent accounting firm, Deloitte.

    Results
Results of members' voting are not known until the GRAMMY Awards presentation ceremony when names of the winners are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes. GRAMMY Award winners are revealed during the GRAMMY Awards telecast.

never knew about all of this. seems kinda cool to be nominated after such a process.
    anyway...

This is the first I've heard (or read) of that.

Guaranteed is my favourite from Into the Wild. Congratulations Eddie! And Good Luck ;)
The worst enemies of music? Money and Mathematics. Combined with music, they both do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to do. Money makes music cheap, mathematics makes it stupid and predictable.

It's great to see Ed got nomination because I love the entire Into The Wild soundtrack however the Grammy awards are highly overrated. It means nothing to me if Ed goes away with no awards (if he will be there at all...). But it would great to see/hear another speech filled with vitriol. ;)

  • That is excellent for Ed... although I have to say I'd love to see Glen Hansard win :o

Ed's already a superstar... Glen always comes across as just an ordinary lad and this is a HUGE jump for him... not that I know him or anything but I like to see people like that win rather than those that have been in the international limelight for a long time, makes it more exciting. Sorry Ed but I'll still be over the moon if ya win too :)

I agree, I saw Glen and Mar at the Beacon last month, they put on an awesome show. I thought it would be a quick 50 minute set with about 10 songs but they were on for a little under two hours!

I hope that both them and Ed get an Oscar nomination too.

Me too... I'm not a BIG fan of the frames... I quite like them but I wouldn't go out of my way to get their albums.. they're very good live though and there's something likeable about Glen Hansard, in an extremely annoying way :D but yeh, I think he's more likely to be super excited than Ed about the whole thing... although I could be completely wrong.

I posted this in one of the other threads about this and thought I'd add it here as well in case you didn't see it there

I would too, but the Grammys have gradually shifted into a performance-fest and cut back drastically on what awards they give out on the air.

The most recent year I could find the numbers on was 2005, where 95 out of 107 awards were given out before the show and they had 18 on-air performances.

So that's 12 awards and 18 performances during the show.

And the "Best Original Song from a Motion Picture" or whatever it's called has been cut for a few years now.

I guess it will be Chris C. than wins. Dreamgirls after that and Eddie Vedder if there were a 2nd and 3rd place.

Heh, the Grammys. Even the Golden Globes have more legitimacy than the Grammys.

Long Nights is better than Guaranteed, anyway.
