Anyone out there familiar with NYC to recommend a clean and decent hotel that is somewhat reasonable? Can't wait to see you all at MSG.

You will probably be paying through the nose for clean and decent in Manhattan in June.
There are a couple other threads on here where people recommend staying in various places in Jersey, then taking the train into the city. You might search out some of those threads. Hope it helps!everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do0 -
I think there are some less expensive choices that are also safe & clean now. If you don't get a response from anyone here, try going to http://www.tripadvisor.com. I've always found the reviews helpful.
By the way, what do you mean "oldest pj fan"? How old are you? I think some of us may have you beat.0 -
Take a look at the Chelsea Lodge. Shared bathrooms, but it's gotten very good reviews on tripadvisor. I've never stayed there, so I can't vouch for it.0

Can you specify what "reasonable" is? I looked this up a few years for my parents' trip here. I agree, Tripadvisor is quite useful but here are a few for you to narrow down your list by. I haven't actually stayed at any of these places (since I live here!) but they were on my shortlist for my parents.
- Gershwin (they have shared bathroom option, probably about a 10-15 minute walk to MSG)
- Union Square Inn (10 mins by subway that takes you 34th & Broadway, a 5-10 minute walk to MSG)
- Hotel 31 (a few blocks from MSG)
- Hotel Deauville
- Hotel 17
I ultimately chose to suck it up and booked the Park South Hotel, which isn't too close to MSG, but it's probably a nice walk (or an under $10 cab-ride) and it has a ton of dining options around especially Indian (it's by Curry/Murray Hill). It's a nice little boutique hotel, great service and worth every bit I paid for it. Hope this is helpful.0 -
try the Crowne Plaza in Secaucus, NJ. I got 2 nights, (6/24 and 6/25) for $310 total after taxes. Not bad for 2 nights at a 3 star hotel 6 miles from MSG. I booked a room right across the street. Hotel Pennsylvania I think its called. My friend stayed there before and its fine, clean no problem. It was the cheapest one in the general area. If you book there PM me so we can meet PJ fans for drinksGet em a Body Bag Yeeeeeaaaaa!

Hotels.com is a great tool for this. You can search near a landmark rather than a whole city. Madison Square Garden is in their search database, they come up in order of distance from the venue. Just scroll through until you see a price you like!
Or, if you don't mind hostels, you can find plenty in New York that have single rooms up through 16 bed dorms. You can find double rooms (even some singles) at $55 per person/per night (ie. a double room would be $110 a night for 2 people). Chelsea Spot Hostel is near the garden and has that price for doubles. Check out http://www.studentuniverse.com and go to the hostel section. Then, if you want to get a little more into it, http://reservations.bookhostels.com have the same hostels listed, but don't put the exact location on the search results, though do have reviews, sometimes their prices are a little more. Every time I've booked through student universe, they don't look at any kind of student id, they just ask what school you attend, so you can fake it.rock bands may come and rock bands may go...

Priceline.com is a good way to go.
Start your NYC bidding at 3 stars for $120 and go from there.
Good luck.

You're not old. 50 is the new 40! Besides, I'm 53, and I'm not even the oldest poster. I've been a fan since the beginning, too.0 -
I would say try Chelsea Hostel http://www.chelseahostel.com
It's cheap, central and CLEAN! I stayed there once, before I moved to the city, and it was great... you're only sleeping there after all. You can get a bed in a share room for $32 a night or a private room for $80 per night. I think it mostly has share bathrooms, but they're very clean, everytime I walked past, they were cleaning them.
Or try Woogo.com. They're serviced apartments. Four of us stayed at the one at Times Square in '05 and it was only $50 each per night. It was clean, friendly and surprisingly quiet, given the location.Glaciers melting in the dead of night and the superstars sucked into the supermassive.0 -
Catwoman I hope to see you there! I am coming with a friend from Arkansas. The amazing thing is how pj crosses the lines generationally. I remember the my first introduction to the band. I was home taking care of kids and I become riveted by the most moving video of Jeremy. Hooked ever since. One of my son's first guitar songs? Black. Made me cry. First show? Little Rock Alltel Arena with my then 16 yr old son. Every show since? My great friend and fan who is in her early thirties. Music moves us all.0

I love it! My parents love PJ too (they really didn't have alot of choice), my mum is 71 and my dad is about to turn 70. I'm not sure I'd get my mum to a PJ concert (probably could) but my dad would go, he nearly did once. There was a sad day in '03 when I was broke with "we will take you to court if you don't make your minimum payment" letters and I was forced to flog floor seats to a PJ show. My dad came with me to the venue to help... he said he would go to the concert with me if we weren't successfulGlaciers melting in the dead of night and the superstars sucked into the supermassive.0 -
