I am staying at the Latham Hotel, I know is not the best, but is the one I was able to afford and I got it for $99.00 at priceline with a private bath (hopefully).
I am only staying for one night, and my sister didn't seem to care much about the place. I am hoping and "praying" that I will have have no problems!!!
Is anyone else staying there???
Yep! We will be staying there from the 22nd - 26th.

and I did the exact same thing as you - $99 from priceline. I called the hotel and they told me it was a private bath. Then again, the person I was speaking to didn't seem to be all that fluent in english.

Not sure how many of these hotels in nyc threads there are floating around here,
but anyways- this NYer isnt bullshitting any fellow Pearl Jam Fans ( even ones from Boston )- especially about avoiding the Hotel Pennsylvania and definitely about Bedbugs.
There are certain things that we shouldnt be bullshitting about, no ?
I'm afraid to say where I'm staying in case the locals come out with horror stories about it!!
I've only ever read good things about my hotel though, whereas I have to say, I've never heard anything good about the Hotel Penn. My work do a trip to New York every two years and they used to use the Hotel Penn and now avoid it and all the guide books say much the same.

I'm coming in just for one night...the 25th. It will be my friend and I - both are fairly young (20). Are there any conclusions on the best place to stay? I live 6 hours away - I'm thinking of driving part of the way back and sleeping somewhere an hour or two out of the city. Is this a reasonable thing to do - and any idea of where to stop along the way (going back to Pittsburgh?).
Catwoman thanks to youa nd all others who posted hotel info. Will be booking a hotel kindly posted by another thread. We will be close to MSG and would love to meet up with everyone for the best time of our lives. I am old...52 and a fan from the beginning. Powerful music that changed my life musically and personally. Those fellas motivated me off of my apathetic ass!
you fossil! I'm 48.

What areas of NYC should I avoid? Is the metro safe at night - or should I take a cab?
Also, if I'm looking to stay outside the city - where? Jersey? Is that safe / reasonable?
Sorry, I was supposed to be going with my one friend and staying at his brother's house in Brooklyn...now it's 3 weeks to go, and I'm scrambling to find an afforable hotel in a city I don't know anyone in.

Do you have AAA? That is how I was able to get a good price (well good for NY). But I booked it a couple months ago.
find a hotel in queens.
trust me, you'll thank me later...and theres subways and a railroad that takes u to NYC within minutes AND youre not paying an arm and a leg.
and theres plenty of cops everywhere here so dont worry...whatever happens here happens everywhere else, same shit just dont drift off into any ghetto or project areas alone and you'll live
Aah, fuck it, I’m just gonna go home, turn on the fuckin’ TV...
Watch the nightly news and drink a beer...
Like I could even change the world, yeah right...

I knew someone who stayed there. She's still alive; didn't say anything one way or another about it. Maybe that's good. The location definitely is.
