Heading to the 2 shows up in MSG and need a little info. We have decided to make the trip a 5 day event and are pulling out hair out trying to plan our trip. We want to do some site seeing all over the city and fear that our hotel location will make getting around a pain. First off is where to stay? Some place cheap and easy access to get around to different place but that isn't a dump. So say I find a good hotel in Queens or the Bronx will getting to sites in the city be a pain? Just want to have as little stress as possible while there. Any info will be appreciated! GO PENS!!!!!!!!!

Many many wonderful shows, since day one.

We've been to New York a couple of times and it's no problem getting anywhere but if you are concerned for ease of getting around then stay in mid town.

It will cost you more but if you're going to do the trip, you want to do it right.

Yea Found a really good hotel "Hotel Grand Union" in midtown. Check it out....http://www.hotelgrandunion.com/ Great location, great reviews, reasonably price and it looks cozy. We are driving anyone know of options for parking my car some where? The hotel we reserved does not provide parking. We will probably need it parked some where for 3 days.

    DO NOT

I repeat DO NOT bring your car into Manhattan. You would be much better off parking it somewhere far-ish in PA or NJ and take the train. Parking here is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. You can't even imagine.

First off, listen to meme, DO NOT bring your car into NYC if you are staying for some time. Secondly, what do you want to do? NYC is huge, but VERY accessible using the subway system. You can get around fairly quickly and cheaply, even through the boroughs. There is a fairly cheap hotel right near MSG called the New Yorker. It is very centrally located. When my wife and I stay in NYC overnight, we usually stay there. It is a 2 minute walk to MSG (I believe it is on 34th and 8th) Good luck.
    East coast 08 please. (YESSSSS!!!!)

Driving in NYC can be pretty hectic for first timers. I personally love it but you really need to know how to get to your destination... NYC drivers do not take any shit at all and will get pissed at you if you are lollygagging around in your car trying to get to where you're going...

I would see about parking and shuttling in personally because as stated above parking is expensive in the city.

drive into manhattan. dont park and train it in. its nice to know you have a car nearby. you can park it ata garage overnight. i dont know it off hand but there is a website that allows you to find the cheapest parking in the area. you can park overnight at most places, 35-40 a day would be a good find, and you can find it, so do it, again its just nice to not have to worry about getting your stuff to a train, catching the train, drive in, wear a helmet, even if you got a hard hard head, you will be honked at you slow poke!

Stay in the Newport section of Jersey City, NJ. It's right across the river from Manhattan and you can reach anywhere via the PATH which is cheaper, cleaner and safer than the NYC Subway system. There's a Courtyard, Hyatt, and several other hotels one stop from Manhattan on the PATH in the Newport Section of Jersey City. Check it out.

You can reach anywhere from the path by taking it to the subway.

If you are driving, go into Brooklyn, park under the BQE in Greenpoint and take the L into Manhattan. Just be sure to note when they are doing the street cleaning. Free parking and a walk to the subway.

There is a Marriot on Astoria BLVD. in Astoria Queens. They have parking so you could drive in park/stay there and there is a train station about a 1/2 mile away which will get you into Midtown in about 10 minutes.

If you stay in the city don't drive in. Parking is going to be a killer on the pocket and the truck drivers might just run your car over if you piss them off enough.

Listen to all these DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR TO NYC people unless you are a veteran and used to driving there.
Parking will add at least $60 to your spending a day. It is insane! Unless you find a hotel that has a valet that is usually less than a regular lot, park somewhere else. Sorry I can't tell you where.

Try to take an afternoon and go downtown and walk along the water by Battery park. It's nicer there on the weekends when the suits are gone. Just don't expect to find something to eat there, all the restaurants close ( I know its NYC, but dude, there is no where to eat down there on the weekend, it's hard to believe). It will be June, so there are a ton of little gardens and a great view of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and NJ (haha). But it has been really built up and looks so nice. My usual trek is to check out the Tower site, head over to the far left and go up to the Winter Garden and thru that building out to the water.
Take a stroll on Bleeker Street and hit Soho, Chinatown and Little Italy. There is so much to do. Leave the car in one place and take a subway.
    Have fun!

I'll add my voice to those saying don't drive in. I've done it, have managed, but its more trouble than its worth - esp. when you're looking for your hotel, and find it on the opposite side of the street, and you can't get over, and then you have to go several blocks before you come around the block again. Park near a path station, or another choice, which I've done, is park at the NY waterways ferry parking lot in Weehawken (NJ) and take the ferry over. All these choices do suggest traveling light (like one reasonable sized rolling bag) however.

So there are places that I could park my car for 6 days in NJ? Iam kinda leaning towards that after reading on the parking prices and driving headaches. We already have our hotel booked in nyc. We have our whole trip planned and its fixing up to be one hell of a trip. The only problem is with this damn car thing. Thanks to everyone for all the info. Anyone know on where we could park our car in nj for 5-6 days?

    Hi,

I'm staying at the Holland Motor Lodge, which has a parking place. It's nothing fancy at $80-100 a night, but it's close to NYC and has good reviews for Jersey City..

Of course you already booked the hotel, so in that case it won't be of much help, sorry.

subway? The subways are only in the 5 boroughs :)
I don't know the train system in Jersey but I'm guessing it's a NJ transit train? Or the Path? You have to ask the Jersey people.

I don't know if the trains run over there. I wonder if it requires a bus?
