Geez, does L.A. have that bad of a mystique, or are people just jumping on a paranoia bandwagon?
    :)

We are a huge city, so by the law of averages, we will have more square miles of dodgy areas!

I watch "COPS" all the time, and I bet our crime isn't all that bad compared to some of the stuff across the U.S.!
    :)

Stay in West L.A., Beverly Hills, Santa Monica or Sherman Oaks if you really want to be 90% safe!

If anyone feels safer staying in a lily-white suburb, here ya go....it's a nice hotel with plenty of places in walking distance.

    End of rant!

I'm still interested. I liked the Ramada idea, but am open to suggestions.

Agreed. The point was not that LA is overly dangerous or something. The point was you should pick a hotel where you want to hang out. LA is kind of spread out and that public transit is not the best. That's all. Just do your research and figure out where you want to spend time.

i have 2 reservations currently... the Courtyard in LA and the Wilshire Plaza..are either of these in a decent spot? i will be renting a car either way...
There is a good courtyard by marriott in West LA on Olympic. Guys trust me, do not rely on public transport in this City. If you want to do some exploring in LA you must rent a car. That being said, if you are out partying, cab it. it aint worth the risk. Just call United Independent Cab in West L.A. Very prompt and reliable. The Wiltern is an easy 10-15 minute cab ride from Hollywood, West Hollywood, Westwood or Downtown. I would not recommend staying in the Valley. Beach areas are cool but not close to the Wiltern. Venice rocks but a hearty cab ride to the Wiltern. Abandon LAX hotels. Very remote from anything and they suck. If you have a few bucks I'd recommend the following:

    1) The W in Westwood
    2) The Standard Downtown or in Hollywood
    3) The Hyatt in Hollywood. Lots of history at this hotel. Seen Almost Famous?
    4) The Viceroy in Santa Monica
    5) Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica

I prefer to stay by the venue.. You take your poster back to your room..get ur self together.. and take a cab to wherever..the Ramada seems perfect and there are many other 10-clubbers staying there.. I got a room there for three nights after the SB show for the two LA shows... There is a 24 hr. fitness 3 blks. away to sweat out the toxins the next day..:)
Buy the ticket, Take the ride..

I hate driving in LA.. I think the Ramada is the best idea.. and just take cabs.. Cheaper and safer than driving in a place you don't know.. Being by the venue is key.. If you have never been to LA, then stay in Hermosa Beach and drive to the show..

  • For those who are still looking for a cheap hotel in LA, I find a Motel 6 at around 50 bucks a single room, it's located at 0,4 miles from the Walk of Fame and 12 miles aways from the Wiltern, here you'll be sure to find europeans and if you never been to LA it's a good place you can put your hands in hands print star's on the sidewalk like you seen it on TV ! Just go on motel6.com and looks for hotel #4044
