    Favre is my fave all time--- the guy just won't quit.

    But the best QB will probably no dount be Peyton Manning, unless he gets some career ending injury.

    When comparing quaterbacks the question should not be "Who is the best?" it should be "Your team is in the Super Bowl, who do you want taking the snaps?"

    The answer for me and any level headed football fan should be Joe Montana. 4 Super Bowls, 4 Super Bowl wins, 0 interceptions. The guy was just a winner, plain and simple.

    Would anyone seriously pick Elway, Favre or Manning or anybody over Montana in this scenario?

    Good question. I'd have to go with Steve Young -- he was the total package in terms of strength, speed, and agility. Not only did he have eye-popping throwing statistics, but he was one of the best running quarterbacks in the history of the NFL as well. That's something Montana, Elway, Manning, etc. can't lay claim to.

    If he wouldn't have started in the USFL -- and wouldn't have followed that up by sitting behind Joe Montana for many years -- I'm pretty confident that he'd be widely regarded as the best of all-time.

    Edit: Oh, and, uh, he could really throw the leather,man. :D

    Montana's the man but another way to can compare is to say "how valuable is the player to the team?" I'll use Elway and Favre as examples. If they ever got hurt for an entire season, their teams would be terrible sub .500 teams. compare that to Montana who missed both the '91 season (Young led the league in QB rating) and never got off the bench in '92 except for one game (Young was MVP). of course, this is a testament to Young's greatness rather than a knock on Montana. but it's still worth noting that the team carried on fine without him whereas if most teams lost a QB as celebrated as Montana (Brady, Elway, Manning, or Favre for example), their teams would be totally screwed.

    He would be a close second in my opinion. I agree with you 100%, he was the total package. He was Manning + Vick -the dog fighting. Just an unbelievable athlete. On some days I'm convinced he is the best all time, but today I'm going with Montana.

    Currently I would agree, though I think if we revisit this question in a decade, the clear answer will be Tom Brady.
