In my opinion Robertson's best pitch is his curve. According to fangraphs, it accounted for 20 percent of his pitches during the 2009 season. If you recall in Game 2 against the Twins, he escaped a bases-loaded jam and his teammates referred to him as "Dave Houdini".

there you have it. I agree about the curve. Without the curve, his fastball would probably be very hittable. but he keeps hitters off balance. I doubt he'll be the next Yankee closer. My guess is that it's Joba, though the team is also very high on Mark Melancon. My hope is that Mariano stays another 5 years until Mariano Rivera Junior is ready to take over for Pop

Melancon is someone I'd like to see more of. He's a very intriguing prospect.

I saw he got sent to the Minors camp, which will be good for him to get some more experience and innings. I like Hughes in the 5th spot, he's got a good arsenal of pitches.

I can't wait until the Tourney is over so I can concentrate on baseball!!
If there were no Angels would there be no sin?

As with everyone else, I am happy Hughes has won the starting job but I just don't get what the Yankees are doing with Joba and I almost think they dont know either. They have spent the last 3 years grooming him to be a starter and now that he is fully ready to pitch with no limitations, he goes to the bullpen. Does not make sense to me.

They have too many options this year! Next year Pettite will more then likely retire opening a slot for Joba. Plus it will be interesting to see what the Yanks do if Vazquez has a year as good as last. To sum it up, this year I blame it on the incredible deal they got for Vazquez.

I hear you but what if Javy and Pettitte are gone next year, then the Yankees are in a much worse situation than they were this year to have him start in 2011 than tney were this year. I guess this means Joba is a reliever long term and I hate that. I would rather have him in Scranton starting this year than in the Yankees bullpen.

Good shit. You will enjoy it and have a blast. Definitely get there early to walk around the stadium and/or hit up Stans or the Bowling Alley. Games in April are always iffy but nothing you can do, you will have a good time either way.

Glad Hughes won the battle. I have faith in him.

    Dear Mr. Hughes
Please don't make me come back and quote myself in two months to show how little i know

  • I'm okay with Hughes starting, I just hope he doesn't end up on The Verducci List next year. This has to be it for Joba. 8th inning set up guy until Mariano retires, then he gets 1st shot at closing. No more jerking him around. Let him go dominate in a 1 inning role

It gives me some comfort that Cashman said they still see Joba as a starter.

Mariano might not retire for another 5 years. My thinking is they'll use Joba for 2 innings most of the time he pitches. And try him out again next year. If Pettitte and/or Vasquez aren't back.
